A nice hike in the San Diego area of Oceanside. We found the hike thru 60 hikes within 60 miles of San Diego and will be trying to do all 60 in 2010.

We couldn't find video of this cabin before we checked in. This is a video we made just before checking out. It is handicap accessible and a great place for families with kids.
The cabin is in the desert so ants invaded the bathroom in search of water. We pretty much killed off the colony with the Terro ant bait we put down.
We used the air conditioning the first night. After that, we just opened the front door and rear patio door for about a half hour in evening to cool the place down. We had no issues with mosquitoes (June).

Oceanside RV Park in Oceanside California offers full hookup RV sites on concrete parking pads with fenced dividers. Located in a urban setting the park is a short distance from Oceanside Beaches and is close to the metro commuter light rail station, Interstate 5 and PCH (located right on it in fact). Oceanside RV Park has a mix of large and small pull thru and backin RV sites. A nice pool area with hot tub is located near the office. The park has restroom and shower facilities, a stocked store, laundry facilities and dog walking areas.
Tent campers also are afforded a few sites near the light rail line with mowed grass for pitching a tent and a picnic table for relaxing. The park is tucked back in off PCH. Call ahead for availability at this popular location.

Getting to Potrero Campground from San Diego, you can take either SR-94 East or I-8 East. I-8 E is a much easier freeway drive but longer in distance. Timewise I suspect it's about the same.

My encounter with a California Condor in Oceanside CA
While hiking today, I ran into a California Condor. I could not believe my luck as Condors have nave never been known to pass by Oceanside, however after reviewing the video and comparing it to pics of young Condors there is no doubt in my mind that this was a Condor. The plumage, the wingspan and the shape of the head leaves no doubt about it. I was very priviledged today.
