Everglades, Gumbo Limbo Trail, Florida, United States 2002
The Gumbo Limbo Trail leaves from the Royal Palm Visitor's Center and loops through a dense jungle hammock of Gumbo Limbo Trees. Also called the 'tourist tree' due to its red flaky bark and underskin, the Gumbo Limbo is fast growing and quite tolerant to salt and calcareous soils. The two largest Gumbo Limbo Trees in America are located in Key West, Florida and Captiva Island, Florida respectively.

Ocean to Lake Hiking Trail - 61 Miles Thru The Everglades
The Ocean to Lake Hiking Trail is one of Floridas best hikes. Come with me as I do the 61 miles in 48 hours, and show you some of my favorite spots along the way from the 20+ times I've personally hiked this trail end to end! A spur off the Florida National Scenic Trail, it's definitely worth checking out.
I'm out here training for something new. Another FKT attempt, or maybe a few! It's nice to get out and put down some bigger days.

Royal Palm
Royal Palm is one of the most popular places to visit in Everglades National Park. Just 15 miles away from south Miami, it features the Anhinga Trail and the Gumbo Limbo Trail. The Anhinga Trail winds through Taylor Slough and a sawgrass prairie. The Gumbo Limbo Trail is a self-guided paved trail winding through a subtropical hardwood hammock.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Centure
Gumbo Limbo Nature Centure
This park is located 1801 N of Ocean Blvd in the city of Boca Raton in Florida. The Gumbo Limbo Park is part of the red Reef Park but is however not in front of the beach but has beautiful Intracoastal Waterway and it's not far from the beach.
The park consist of an indoor museum , fish, turtles and other sea life tanks, a plank trail with an observation tower and a clearing for observing butterflies. In this park, you will be able to see and learn more about the sea life. There are three things to note during your visit to this amazing park, the tree path/ the board walk, the fish path and the butterfly path. The tree path is a walk way that allows visitors to walk some few feet above the ground level.
The tree path has different types of trees such as iornwood, inkwood, oaks, maples and palms. These trees provide a beautiful canopy. The fish path has three different salt water tanks with the first being a swirl tank that has fish, corals, anemones, sea urchins, star fish and sponge.
The site is dazzling and will draw your attention. The second tank has turtles Three salt water tanks provide visitors with different environments. The first is a swirl tank containing fish, corals, anemones, sea urchins, star fish and sponges.

Everglades National Park, FL - Flamingo Campground
Join us as we take a trip to the Everglades National Park in south Florida. This was our first National Park stay and we absolutely loved it! This mysterious, uncharted wilderness is so appealing! Between the marshes, prairies, and forests, we were able to encounter birds, fish, mosquitoes, manatees, turtles, crocodiles, and more! We enjoyed our stay at Flamingo Campground and would highly recommend it for those interested in staying during the winter months as we did!
Have you ever stayed at Flamingo? How about other areas of the Everglades? Boating seems like a wonderful way to see even the most secluded areas of the Everglades! Would you agree?

2-6-17 - Pa hay okee Trail, Everglades National Park, Florida
Day 31 - Bruce walks the Pa hay okee Trail in the Everglades National Park, Florida.
I don't know why but Bruce always wants to park in the sun so that is why he is backing up to put the van in the shade.

DescriptionThe Everglades (or Pa-hay-okee) is a natural region of tropical wetlands in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Florida, comprising the southern half of a large drainage basin and part of the neotropic ecozone. The system begins near Orlando with the Kissimmee River, which discharges into the vast but shallow Lake Okeechobee. Water leaving the lake in the wet season forms a slow-moving river 60 miles (97 km) wide and over 100 miles (160 km) long, flowing southward across a limestone shelf to Florida Bay at the southern end of the state. The Everglades experience a wide range of weather patterns, from frequent flooding in the wet season to drought in the dry season. Writer Marjory Stoneman Douglas popularized the term River of Grass to describe the sawgrass marshes, part of a complex system of interdependent ecosystems that include cypress swamps, the estuarine mangrove forests of the Ten Thousand Islands, tropical hardwood hammocks, pine rockland, and the marine environment of Florida Bay
Search for the Gumbo Limbo
A while back Scott & Conny were hiking in the back swamp of our property and came across a beautiful Gumbo Limbo tree. Scott told me I should see it because it might make a beautiful photograph. And so, off into the swamp Niki & I went with Scott & Conny. As we were making our way into the bush we heard a shout out, and guess who showed up? John Kalafarski! We all had a great time out there pretending we weren't lost :) . Once you find something in the swamp it's easy to loose it again unless you have a GPS, which we never carry, nor does Scott or Conny. It made for a fun trip. Saw lots of swamp I've never seen and even found the Gumbo Limbo tree for me to photograph!
Florida Road Trip : The Anhinga Trail HD
Evergaldes National Parc - The Anhinga Trail HD
I finally got to the Everglades National Park.
After a short visit to the Visitor center, I went to Royal Palm to hike the Anhinga Trail and The Gumbo limbo walk.
The Anhinga trailhead is located next to the visitor center in Florida Everglades National Park so I bring my camera but I forgot my binoculars.
this is also on this trail, where visitors AND ME get their very first look at an American alligator in its natural habitat, SO it is a very popular destination, but today there are only few visitors. it's cool !
Here winter and spring are the best season to see an abundance of wildlife, because lower water levels cause fish to concentrate, in permanently flooded areas.
Then the fish, in turn, attract birds, alligators, river otters and animals that come to feast on the bounty.
Of course there is usually an abundance of birds along the trail, mosts can be viewed at close range because there are accustomed to pedestrian.
I saw Double crested cormorants, one black vultures, and of course the trade mark of this trial the Anhingas !
he was perched on a low fence, adjacent to the trial.
I approched it at just a few feet away.
Now The Gumbo Limbo Trail
This trail is located on the south side of the visitor center, and 100% of the trail is under the trees in the hammocks, with many mosquitoes.
Later I will gige an explanation of a Hammock
This trail is named for the gumbo limbo, it's a tropical tree characterized by thin red bark.
This trail is also reputed for his interesting epiphytes, some orchids and bromeliads. And I could see some of them. but not nice orchid, later perhaps.
Rangers said Do not distrub the snails and especially do not remove them for the trees and keep an eye on snakes.
Don't worry I will keep 2 eyes on snakes.
That's it
