Tools of the Trade for Precision Shooting
Gunsite Academy NOW! gives you a glimpse into the quality of the instructors at Gunsite Academy and some of the courses they teach.
In this video, Gunsite instructor Corey Trapp gives you some tips on tools of the trade for precision shooting.
Gunsite was founded in 1976 by Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, author, columnist, professor, WW II and Korean War combat veteran. Col. Cooper intended Gunsite to be the vehicle for spreading the Modern Technique of the Pistol, which he created during his years in Big Bear Lake, CA.
Jeff Cooper built the facility which was known then as the American Pistol Institute (API), just west of Paulden, Arizona, about twenty miles north of Prescott, in the high Sonoran desert on 210 acres originally. Jeff passed away September 25, 2006 at the age of 86.
Today, Gunsite continues by offering firearm training to elite military personnel, law enforcement officers and free citizens of the US. Owning a piano does not make one a pianist any more than owning a handgun makes one a good shooter. Only an effective, safe and authoritative program of study can guarantee that in a moment of danger YOU will act to protect yourself, your loved ones or the ones you are sworn to with self defense firearms training skills.
Special thanks to Mossberg, Crimson Trace, Federal Ammunition, Kitanica, and Galco for your support of this series.
Production Gun Nationals & Gunsite Academy | Shooting USA
Only factory-built guns can compete at the USPSA Production Nationals, and the major manufacturers send their top team members to shoot those handguns right out of the box. It’s the old NASCAR rule, “Win on Sunday, Sell Guns on Monday.” So, this championship is the most important competition of the year for those Professional Shooters. They go head-to-head in this run-and-gun match, with new challenging targets, at PASA Park in Illinois.
Plus, Colt celebrates 40 years at Gunsite Academy. We head to the world famous training facility founded by Colonel Jeff Cooper in Arizona to see how the Modern Technique is being preserved and taught to future generations. John also takes us on a tour of the late Colonel’s personal gunroom.
And, the Savage auto-loading pistol that nearly beat the 1911 in military trials. The Savage Model of 1907 is now one of History’s Guns. Tune in to Outdoor Channel for more.

The Master speaks on: Mental Color Code
Cooper lectures on his Color Code pertaining to awareness and threat assessment. Unfortunately it is often taught incorrectly (I know I was taught a contorted version in the Marines) so here it is straight from the horses mouth. The overlays at the end were added by me and don't appear in the original video.
Interesting tidbit, his description of dissuading possible attacks simply by appearing aware and ready has a parallel in nature; the behavior of several African deer species called stottingis a signal to predators that the prey knows it's there and that an ambush would be futile, the deer therefor avoid getting attacked at all.
