SEOUL'S TOP 5 BEST FOOD MARKETS - South Korea ???????? 2018
If you're planning on visiting Seoul and you love markets, food, and the hustle and bustle of everyday life, then you need to check out this video.
I've been going to some of these markets since the 80's and 90's with my Korean relatives, so these places hold sentimental value for me. Besides being just great markets, they're also loaded with tons of food!
TONGIN MARKET (통인시장)
ADDRESS: 8, Jahamun-ro 15-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Market is open weekdays 09:00 to 18:00, Saturdays 09:00 to 13:00. Closed on Sundays & holidays.
The Doshirak Cafe closes at 16:00.
Tongin Market was built in 1941 for the Japanese residents that lived around there during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Now it's a small traditional market, with a unique way to experience the market: using Yeobjeon, the traditional brass coins, to fill up your Doshirak lunch tray.
A bundle of 10 coins goes for 5,000 Won. Most dishes cost 2 coins, some small items are only 1 coin. The vendors will have the cost of items listed at their shops.
When you're ready to eat, go to the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Doshirak Cafe, located in the center of the market. They provide free utensils, water, and napkins. You can also buy a bowl of rice and/or soup, for 2 coins each.
GYEONGDONG MARKET (경동시장)
ADDRESS:147, Wangsan-ro, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Herbal Medicine Market 09:00-19:00
Traditional Market 04:00-19:00 (varies by store)
This market is one of the largest markets in Seoul, dating back to right after the Korean War when many of the countryside farmers would gather in the city to sell their produce.
This place is huge, and is equivalent to the size of 5 World Cup soccer stadiums.
You can buy any type of food here: vegetables, fruits, all types of meats, seafood, etc. This place is great for grocery shopping for cheap!
There's also the Herbal Medicine Market, which is the largest herbal market in all of South Korea. You can find all types of Hankyak (한약), which is traditional Korean medicine, here.
GWANGJANG MARKET (광장시장)
ADDRESS: 88, Changgyeonggung-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: General stores 08:30-18:00, Restaurants 08:30-23:00.
Most of the market is closed on Sundays, but lots of the street food vendors will still be open.
Gwangjang Market is a textiles and fabric market, that just so happens to house one of the largest traditional Korean street food areas in the city. You can fulfill all your traditional Korean street food fantasies here: tons of tteokbokki, bibimbap, the famous narcotic kimbap, bindaetteok, fried foods, etc.
The market is also famous for Yukhoe (육회), which is essentially Korean raw beef tartare. It's strips of fresh beef, mixed with egg yolk, sesame oil, on top a bed of sliced Asian pears. Mix it all together and enjoy!
NAMDAEMUN MARKET (남대문시장)
ADDRESS: 21, Namdaemunsijang 4-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Everyday, with a short break between 5pm ~ 10pm for the overnight vendors. I recommend mid-morning or early-afternoon.
Namdaemun Market is the largest traditional Korean market still in operation in the entire country! There are over 10,000 individual vendors!
Make sure to visit the Noodle Alley and Hairtail fish Alley and you MUST TRY the yachae hotteok or ggul hotteok snacks at Gate 2 on the north side of the market.
MAJANG MEAT MARKET (마장 축산물시장)
ADDRESS: 40, Majang-ro 31-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Weekdays 03:00-23:00, closed every first and third Sunday of the month.
Majang Meat Market is the best place to buy Hanwoo beef, as well as other types of meats. It's roughly 30% cheaper here than anywhere else!
Make sure to eat some BBQ at the BBQ alley at the north entrance (click map link to see that entrance location).

Walking around Gyeongdong Market, Seoul, Korea
Gyeongdong Market or Kyungdong Market, located in Dongdaemun District, Seoul, is one of the largest herbal medicine and ginseng markets of South Korea. Since its establishment in 1960, the market supplies 70 percent of the nation’s herbal medicine ingredients and has more than 1,000 related shops and oriental medicine clinics in the area. Gyeongdong Market also serves as a wholesale and retail markets selling agricultural products and fish in about 300,000 square meters, about five times the size of the Seoul Sangam World Cup Stadium. It is served by Seoul Subway's Jegi-dong Station on Line 1.

Best Place to shop for Korean Kids Clothes in Seoul Korea
Please watch: 5 Star Hotel Review: JW Marriott Seoul at Banpo Express Bus Terminal Gangnam, Korea
--~--
In this video, I will show you where to buy Korean kids clothes at Namdaemun Market, including how to get there. Watch until the end for a haul! Korea is a shopping paradise, especially when it comes to clothing. Kids clothing is no exception. While you can find the occasional kids clothing stall at Express Bus Terminal and a couple places in Dongdaemun Market, if you really want to find the best deals and the biggest selection, you should head over to the children's clothing district at Namdaemun Market.
Directions
Go to Hoehyeon Station (Seoul Subway Line 4), and walk out of Exit 6. Walk straight for about 2-3 minutes until you see a sign for Gate 4 of Namdaemun, and a sign pointing towards the Kids Wear Shopping Street. (You have to look up to see the sign). Once you see the sign, turn right and you’ve arrived!

Dongdaemun shoe market - ???????? SEOUL WALK
Walk around Seoul with me in the Dongdaemun Market area, specifically the area that focuses on selling all things related to shoes. As I say in the video, you won't find the latest Nike Air Jordans or anything here, but you will find a bunch of random and affordable footwear in this market area. If it has a name brand attached to it, it is most likely 99% a fake knock off. Regardless of if items in the Dongdaemun area are knock offs or not doesn't matter... you should still take a visit here because there are many items of clothing and fashion that are very affordable!
You can also haggle the prices here with the merchants. My favorite tactic is to state the price I would be willing to pay and try to haggle but if the merchant seems to not budge, then I will just make it obvious that I'm unsatisfied with the haggle and that I will leave. 9 out of 10 times, the merchant will yell at me as I'm walking away that they accept my offer of a lower price and then I've won the haggle. hahaha
Thank you for watching, we really appreciate the support!

Gwangjang Market (광장시장) is one of the oldest and largest traditional markets in Korea with more than 5,000 shops in an area of 42,000 square meters. This market offers traditional street food such as tteokbokki (spicy soft rice cake), bibimbap, kimpbap, and sundae (blood sausage) but is famous for bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes) and mayak gimbap. It is also here where you will find a vast selection of vendors selling textiles, silk, linens, bed sheets, hanbok (traditional Korean dress), second-hand clothes, and more. KOREAN STREET FOOD - Namdaemun Market Street Food Tour in SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA
Subscribe for more food and travel videos:
Get ready for some EPIC KOREAN STREET FOOD at NAMDAEMUN MARKET the BIGGEST and OLDEST traditional market in Korea. Namdaemun Market is a well known street food destination in Seoul. We take you on a street food tour of this traditional market...
We eat:
Hotteok
A Korean pancake which comes in both a savoury and sweet version. We sample the savoury hotteok from the famous stall located right by Gate 2 of Namdaemun Market. We reckon hotteok is more of a donut than a pancake. In this case the dough is stuffed with glass noodles and vegetables and then shallow fried in a pan of oil. It is brushed with a fruity glaze before serving.
Eomuk or odeng
Fish cakes which are skewered and simmer in a hot broth are an ideal street food snack in the winter. If you see an odeng stall just pay for the number of skewers you want and help yourself to a cup of hot broth.
Mandu
Mandu are dumplings. At this stall we sample both pork and kimchi steamed mandu.
Tteokbokki
Tteokbokki is a Korean street food favourite. Rice cakes are cooked in a gochujang (red chilli pepper paste) sauce and often served with eomuk or fish cake.
Kalguksu and Boribap in Kalgaksu Alley
Kalguksu are handmade knife cut noodles. Kalguksu Alley is lined with vendors selling kalguksu noodle soup and boribap- a barley and rice dish with mixed vegetables. The noodles are served in an anchovy broth with dried seaweed and tofu. When you eat at these stalls you will receive a small bowl of naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) and a vegetable soup for free.
How to get there:
Namdaemun Market
21 Namdaemunsijang 4-gil, Namchang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul
Seoul Subway Line 4, Hoehyeon Station Exit 5

KOREAN STREET FOOD ???? LARGEST Traditional Market Food Tour in Seoul, South Korea | Namdaemun Market
Eat at Namdaemun Market in Seoul, South Korea for DELICIOUS traditional Korean street food! Get unlimited, HD stock footage for your YouTube & video projects here:
Today we visit the LARGEST traditional market in Seoul, Korea to try delicious Korean street food from mandus to hairtail soup. I recommend visiting the noodle alley to get a set for 5000 won! Then stopping by next door to Gamegol Son Wangmandu for dumplings! There is seating upstairs in case you need a break from the heat. This Korean market is so big I got really lost walking around.
I also recommend the savory hotteok by the stall at exit 2. If you can’t find something here are people in red vests directing travelers! Namdaemun Market is a great place to shop for clothes and trinkets at a cheap price. There were many street stalls hidden between alleyways but they will offer the same type of set noodles.
There is also a spicy hairtail soup alleyway where you can see Korean aunties boiling these pots of steamy soup outside! Again this will be a set meal so get ready for a lot of Korean street food if you eat here. The Korean food here is SPICY so becareful of the heat heheh.
Visit this market or Gwangjang Market in Seoul? If you have time visit both! Gwangjang is definitely great for sampling Korean street food. You can order smaller portions and the food is all concentrated in one area. Namdaemun is MASSIVE and is a great shopping market with a few more specialized street eats. You'll see that the mandus, or dumplings, are different from both markets. You can watch our Gwangjang Market food tour here: for more traditional Korean eats.
