We found a bunch of unique and delicious Vietnamese street foods that you really need to try, all around Hanoi's old quarter! Despite this area being quite tourist, we found a lot of delicious food, so far, this has been the BEST street food city I've visited in Southeast asia!
In this Vietnam Street Food tour video, Myself (Trevor James, The Food Ranger), am taking you on a food street journey to many delicious, mouthwatering street food places around Hanoi in Northern Vietnam. If you're deciding whether or not to travel to Vietnam for the street food, you really need to come visit Hanoi. You can enjoy unique Vietnamese street foods hidden in Hanoi's old quarter alleyways and try classic Vietnam cuisine specialties like Pho for Breakfast, Bun Cha for lunch, A ton of different rice noodle dishes, and a ton of other hidden delights.
Over the past 3 years, I've filmed and eaten street food around China, including locations like Chengdu, Lanzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Beijing, Wuhan, Leshan, Shanghai, and Xinjiang's Silk Road. So far, the street food in each of these locations has been the best street food around the world! BUT, I haven't shot a ton of street food in Southeast Asia, so we made it our goal to come to Vietnam to try the street foods. So far, it has totally been worth it!
Vietnamese cuisine is so delicious, and even though I've only been here a short while, I'm sure that it would really need a lifetime to eat all of it. I've decided to stay living in China, and move around to other countries like Vietnam for another year or two or even more, shooting delicious street food in china for you and across asia as well!
Here are the addresses and locations and restaurant names for the Vietnam street food I had in this Hanoi, Vietnam travel video. Most locations were deep in Hanoi's old quarter alleyways!

Hanoi Food Tour | Eating BUN CHA where Obama dined with Anthony Bourdain in Vietnam
On this episode Yen and I enjoy one of the greatest food experiences in the world. Having Bun Cha for lunch at the restaurant where Anthony Bourdain and Obama famously dined together in Anthony Bourdain's series Parts Unknown.
Before we get into the Bun Cha we need to stop off for one of the most well known breakfast dishes of Vietnam. PHO! We decide to head to one of the most popular places for this bowl of goodness Pho 10. Pho is probably the most well known Vietnamese noodle dish around so we paid a visit to the most famous Pho restaurant in Hanoi - Pho 10. You need to be careful as there are copycat Pho 10 restaurants about!
Pho 10
Address - 10 Lý Quốc Sư, Hàng Trống, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội
Hours Monday - Sunday 6am - 10pm
Next up it's the main event the legendary Bun Cha destination. Bún chả Hương Liên in Hanoi where Obama went with Anthony Bourdain. Make sure you get the Obama combo if you're looking to try a bit of everything. The place is also affectionately known as Obama Bun Cha. This was a special visit for us given how great Anthony Bourdain was (grandfather of food vlogging) and somehow we were lucky enough to get a table right next to their famously encased table that's on display in the bun cha Hanoi restaurant.
Bún chả Hương Liên
Address - 24 Le Van Huu, Pham Dinh Ho, Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8am–8:30pm
Vietnamese coffee is amazing and our first time ever trying egg coffee which is a specialty in Hanoi was at at Cafe Giảng where it all began and originated from. The Vietnamese sure know how to make delicious coffee. We were hooked on Vietnamese coffee during our whole Vietnam trip so were very keen to try Vietnamese egg coffee too!
Cafe Giảng
Address - 39 Nguyễn Hữu Huân, Hàng Bạc, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội - Hours - Monday - Sunday 7AM–10PM - Egg Nog Coffee
To be honest we've never even heard of a dry pho but once we found out that this existed we had to try it. It doesn't comes close to soup pho though in our opinion but hey it's good to try new things :)
Phở Xào Phú Mỹ
Address - Địa chỉ: 45 Bát Đàn, Cửa Đông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội - Giờ:
Hours - Monday - Sunday 6:30AM–1:30PM, 4:30–10PM
It would be a crime to leave Vietnam without trying Cha Ca which is a grilled turmeric fish dish. We are no criminals so we head off to Chả Cá Thăng Long thanks to a recommendation from our cousin! We did lots of research and this place is definitely the best restaurant for Cha Ca. It's an absolute must try food in Hanoi, Vietnam. Cha Ca is a specialty of Hanoi so if you're visiting, we highly recommend trying this iconic dish at this restaurant that's been specializing in Cha Ca for years.
Chả Cá Thăng Long
Address - Địa chỉ: 21 - 31 Đường Thành, Cửa Đông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội
Hours: Monday - Sunday 10AM–9:30PM
For our final spot we head to a small shop which serves Bánh Cuốn called Banh Cuon Bà Hanh. One of the definitive Northern Vietnamese food, it's rice-flour pancakes stuffed with meat and a tasty dipping sauce. If you're looking for delicious food in Hanoi and love rice-flour dishes, this place is a must visit.
Banh Cuon Bà Hanh
Address: 26B Thọ Xương, Hàng Trống, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội
Hours: Monday - Sunday 6AM–3PM, 5–10PM - Banh cuon

Hanoi Street Food during our Tour
Vietnamese Street Food of Grilled Pork Skewers with Chili Sauce! Nha! Absolutely delicious from a vendor that was born in Northern Vietnam in Ha Noi, bring the taste of the North to the streets of Ho Chi Minh City. We jump in and taste this delicious food during one of our Ho Chi Minh City Food Tours!
You can learn about all the different Vietnamese Street Foods we eat on our tours here:
Why do we eat Hanoi Food on a tour in Ho Chi Minh City?
Well, its absolutely delicious so that would be the top reason for adding this to our food adventure. Thats the essence of all of the tours we do, we don't like to keep our Vietnamese street food tastings to only dishes from Ho Chi Minh City. We are willing to try anything and everything if we feel it adds to the adventure for our customers.
Flavors will also change on Vietnamese dishes that are being served to Vietnamese locals in Saigon. One of the prime examples would be the addition of sugar into many of the dishes to add a sweetness that is craved by most residents of Ho Chi Minh City. Where the flavors of Hanoi street food are more in the realm of salty and savory.
What makes this dish in the video typical Hanoi Vietnamese style street food?
Grilled meat skewers on the street with pickles is something you would find more on the streets of Hanoi than Ho Chi Minh City. It's just not a common dish that Southern Vietnamese eat alot of. The sausage that is served here is a bit more southern style though and you can find that all over Ho Chi Minh City.
VIETNAM STREET FOOD TOUR in HANOI's Old Quarter | DELICIOUS Vietnamese Food in Hanoi, Vietnam
Today's video is a continuation of Episode 2 where I visited a local Vietnamese home kitchen to try authentic recipes prep.
The shots I filmed that day were too much so I divided them into two episodes!
So for today, since I am still full from the scrumptious food I had in Nha MIn, I decided to walk around the Hoan Kiem Lake.
It was so beautiful and I felt so relaxed by just staring at the lake. Then, I met Tuan and Andy. We had a little chit chat until
Tuan craved for some Banh Mi. So we started walking towards the Old Quarter until we found a Banh Mi stall. Andy had Bacon Banh Mi
and Tuan had Char siu Banh Mi, each costs 30.000vnd/1.29usd. I ordered my first ever beer in Hanoi, the Saigon Beer. Andy recommended
it and it was actually good, refreshing, and very light. When my tummy had a little room for snack, I bought a pork doner kebab just
across the Banh Mi stall for 25.000vnd/1.07usd. It was very flavorful and meaty. I liked the crunch from the veg and the bread is like
the same recipe of a Vietnamese Baguette but shaped like a pita. I love how this Turkish dish was adapted by the Vietnamese people and
made it their own. I mean, where else would you see a doner kebab using pork and baguette? Amazing! After that delicious snack, we
said goodbye to Andy and Tuan and met a client in the area. Our meeting ended a little late so we looked for something to eat.
And we found a pork bbq being sold at the night market! Sadly, my camera died before I got to film it. But it was pretty tasty!
Tonight was tiring but my heart is full. I was able to film Nha Min, meet new people at the lake, close a deal at the Old Quarter, eat some good
street food. Can you believe it was just my 2nd day? Haha. This has always been my dream. To travel, meet new people, and learn about
their culture and history through food. Thank you so much for watching! And I will see you on Episode 4. Good bye from Hanoi!♥
