HMS Unicorn was launched into the River Medway on 30th March 1824. The Commissioner of Chatham Dockyard reported to the Navy Board, I have to acquaint you that His Majesty's ship Unicorn was launched to day from the 4th slip at this Yard.
Unicorn represents the last great flourish of wooden shipbuilding, and also illustrates the birth of the iron steamship.

Footage shows elements of the Royal Navy's Fleet Train, including the aircraft auxiliary HMS Unicorn, tending to the warships of the British Pacific Fleet before they returned to Sakishima Gunto, Okinawa, to conduct ICEBERG II. Footage includes the transfer of aircraft such as the Seafire, Hellcat, Corsair and Avengers via lighter.

HMS Unicorn is a surviving sailing frigate of the successful Leda class, although the original design had been modified by the time that the Unicorn was built, to incorporate a circular stern and small-timber system of construction. Listed as part of the National Historic Fleet, Unicorn is now a museum ship in Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Side view ship; tall masts. LS astern. Shot from upper deck (?) looking down at men standing on deck; rigging; pan slowly left; on lifeboat.
MS 2 longshoremen unloading a pallet of cartons; sliding them down ramp onto ship. Pulled back shot from above of same. Different angle of same. A tour around HMS Trincomalee, a Leda Class Sailing Frigate of the Royal Navy that was built in 1817 and is today preserved at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Hartlepool.

Frigate Unicorn
HMS Frigate Unicorn, of 46 guns, was built for the Royal Navy in Chatham dockyard, and she was launched in 1824. The classic sailing frigate was a fast and powerful warship, and was one of the most successful and charismatic ship designs of the age. The Unicorn is the oldest British built warship still afloat, and one of only six ships still surviving built before 1850 anywhere in the world. The Frigate can be visited at The Victoria Dock, Dundee, Scotland.
