Flores: Like I told you. First, I want the indigenous people to have a proper space to live in, because here, in Mexico City Center, we are many indigenous people.
Question: And how are the indigenous people treated?
Flores: We come here because of necessity, not because we want to. In our town there is not enough work and the only thing we find here is a live of selling things on the street. Many of us don't know how to read or write; they can't work everywhere. People can't give them work because they don't have studies. We can't work as secretaries, for example, because we don't know how to read and write.
Q: Do you know how to read and write?
Flores: Now yes, before I didn't.

14. SOUNDBITE (Spanish): Amaranta Gomez, Mexico Possible Congressional Candidate
In Juchitan people accept that sexual diversity is a part of their social entourage, it is a part of culture, of social dynamics, it is cultural, economical and political. Therefore it was possible, of course, to be a sexual diversity candidate.

These types of candidates are a minority, most candidates are professional politicians, and therefore these isolated cases are different. I would differ two kinds of candidates, you mentioned artists and on the other hand some minorities; in the case of Mexico Possible party, they have candidates from minorities: homosexuals, lesbians, deaf, and that is perfectly respectable, valid and even stimulates the participation of those kinds of groups.

STORYLINE:
The Mexico Posible Party (which means Mexico Possible Party in English) is a new, small party which is becoming famous for running in elections with unusual candidates.
The party, which has 93-thousand members, participates in the election race with candidates from various ethnic or sexual minorities, AIDS-sufferrers while other candidates are either deaf or blind.
One of these candidates is Josefina Flores, a so-called Mazahua, which means an indigenous folk.
Flores works as a street vendor and lives in a poor neighborhood.
She is also a local congress candidate in Mexico City, who is not directly elected, but is assigned a seat in congress according to the number of votes that that particular party gets.
Analysts say however, that Flores' chance of getting a seat in congress are very slim as the Mexico Possible party would need one million votes to even think about giving her a seat.
Flores is an indigenous candidate from San Antonio Pueblo Nuevo, in Mexico state, who has had no formal education and is determined to fight for the right of all indigenous communities.
Gomez is competing for the congress seat of Juchitan de Zaragoza district in the southern state of Oaxaca.

Street Food in Oaxaca - CHEESE CORN CHAMPION and Mexican Meat Alley Tour in Mexico!

One of the places I was most excited to visit in Mexico for food (Comida Oaxaqueña) is Oaxaca. Oaxaca has one of the most developed and advanced food cultures in all of Mexico. For our first day, we set out on a Mexican street food tour of Oaxaca, eating everything we could see.
Mercado de Abastos - We began the morning at one of the biggest local fresh food markets in Oaxaca. I samples a Tamal de Mole - 11 MXN ($0.59) and a hot Chocolate - 10 MXN ($0.53), both of which were delicious, and a great way to start this tour.
Soup - 30 MXN ($1.60) per bowl - The market was just opening, but there was a busy soup stall, so we stopped to have a bowl. The fish and shrimp soup were both delicious.
Memelas - 30 MXN ($1.60) total - One of the ultimate Mexican street foods to try in Oaxaca is memalas, a round of masa, cooked and topped with salsa and cheese, and your choice of other toppings. We got it with grilled meat on top. It was delicious, one of the best things I ate throughout the day.
Carnitas - 30 MXN ($1.60) total - This was just a quick impulse taco on the go because it looked so good… it was.
Zócalo Oaxaca, Plaza de Santo Domingo - The center of Oaxaca is a pleasant place to hang out, only today there happen to be a protest going on, so it was a bit busy.
Mercado 20 de Noviembre - Meat combo - 300 MXN ($16.02) - This is one of the great meat halls of the world. You walk in to the meat sauna, choose your meat, they grill it all in front of you, and you eat it with tortillas and salsa. An amazing food paradise.
Tlayudas El Negro - Tlayudas are another common Oaxacan street food, using giant tortillas filled with beans, cabbage, and cheese, and then grilled.
Price - 80 MXN ($4.27) for 1
Monte Albán - Resting our stomachs, we did a little sightseeing in Oaxaca. One of the famous attractions are the ruins of Monte Alban.
Elote - 20 MXN ($1.07) - You’ll find elotes, a corn on the cobb with cheese and salsas, all over Mexico. It’s one of the most common Mexican street foods… but this guy is at the main plaza of Oaxaca is on another level. His style is champion!
Mole negro - 60 MXN ($3.20) per plate - Finally to end this Mexican street food tour of Oaxaca, we needed to have a plate of mole negro, one of the national dishes of Oaxaca.
It was an amazing day of food. Oaxaca has such a rich culture of food and friendly people.

????????A FOREIGNER ALONE in TEPITO - SURVIVING MEXICO CITY'S Most DANGEROUS NEIGHBOURHOOD *subtítulos*
Please watch: ???????? Is HONG KONG SAFE for TOURISTS? | 2019 HONG KONG PROTESTS | MY EXPERIENCE (with subtitles)
--~--
TEPITO, MEXICO CITY - Mexico City is full of variety, full of amazing architecture and beautiful areas such as Condesa, Roma, Coyoacan and more. Mexico City is safe and full of amazing people (trust me, I've been gere a long tim).
However there's a side to Mexico City that people don't talk about, even some Mexico City residents will not venture there. This is Tepito.
Tepito is widely considered to be one of Mexico City's most dangerous areas with a reputation for crime, drug dealing, the weapons trade, violence and the sale of counterfeit goods. It's an area that feels worlds away from the rest of CDMX.
As a foreigner from the UK, I wanted to visit. I've lived in Doctores and been to Ecatapec. I'm from London so I am no stranger to drugs, violence and watching my back (yes, London is dangerous!).
DISCLAIMER - I do not for one second recommend that as a tourist ,you risk your safety by visiting Tepito, it's your choice. It's very rare that I would suggest not to go somewhere, but this is possibly one occasion.
TIPS -
- Do not go alone
- Have some grasp of Spanish
- No photos or video of vendors or products without permission
- No jewellery
- No money
- No bags
- No valuable equipment
- Do not go at night
I am happy to risk my safety to bring you these videos - I hope you understand that. I will not entertain abusive comments as it was my decision to go there and risk my safety.
