VLOG#9 First Impression of Haikou in December
I had a short stay in Haikou, and it was different from what I originally imagined (a tourist town). Rather, the city is more suited for everyday living, than for visiting.
There wasn't much attractions for tourists, but lots of street level food to please the locals.
Crown Spa Resort Hainan Haikou
The Crown Spa Resort Hainan Haikou is rated as one of the finest hotels in Haikou. There are many cafes, boutiques and stores near the hotel since it sits in the business center of the city. The hotel is a fifteen minute drive to the Haikou Meilan International Airport. The rail station is also a short drive from the Crown Spa Resort Hainan Haikou.
There are many standard rooms, deluxe suites and VIP suites within the Crown Spa Resort Hainan Haikou. The rooms all include high speed Internet access, a minibar, a private bathroom, satellite TV, DDD telephone and a safe. Room service is available for a fee.
This hotel has a five star rating and offers many luxurious amenities. Tuesday October 18, 2016. Shenzhen, China. Martin Henn of HENN, presents at the 2016 China Conference Session 6a: Public Realm.
When designing the “Haikou Towers,” our aim was to go beyond an architecture of mere function or form, but to construct an architecture of meaning. We tried to integrate all defining parameters of the design (context, program, structure, circulation) in a way that they would be mutually dependent and concurrently provide a sense of meaning. Projects often happen at such great speed and scale that we are confronted with a green field condition. In China, entire CBDs often mark the starting point of new urban developments. The challenge here is to bridge the gap between rich ancient, local cultures and the new, contemporary identities of the place and their people. In our eyes architecture is a vehicle to create identity. We are convinced that architecture should take on a political, social and cultural responsibility. Form should hereby be a strategy against the uniform. It should represent place rather than object.

Hainan is an island province of China and the nation’s southernmost point. It's known for its tropical climate, beach resorts and forested, mountainous interior. The southern city of Sanya has many beaches that range from 22km-long Sanya Bay to crescent Yalong Bay and its luxury hotels. Outside Sanya, the hilly hiking trails of Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone pass over suspension bridges and by waterfalls.

Skyscraper Video #179: Haikou Tower
Haikou Tower, also known as Haikou Tower 1, is an supertall skyscraper under construction in Guoxing Avenue, Haikou, Hainan, China. It is one of a suite of ten buildings on a site called Haikou Towers or Hainan International Exchange Square. The main building will be a 94 stories tower with a height of 428 metres | 1,404 ft. The project will consist of a group of ten buildings, five on the north side of Guoxing, and five on the south. The grounds total 387,669 sq metres. The project began on September 28, 2015 and is expected to be completed sometime between 2020 and 2023.
