Hairy Maclary and Friends Sculpture
Tauranga Waterfront
I had three days trip to Tauranga/Mount Maunganui, It was my last day. Before boarding the bus at 7:30am, I came to waterfront early to film the sunrise.
Tauranga is the most populous city in the Bay of Plenty region and the fifth most populous city of New Zealand. A bridge over the harbour connects Tauranga to Mount Maunganui, a beach town with hot saltwater pools and an extinct namesake volcano with winding walking paths.
Hairy Maclary and Friends Sculpture is a popular attraction and a must to see in Tauranga. These larger-than-life bronze statutes bring Dame Lynley Dodd’s much loved children’s book characters to life
I found this article on the internet about this famous sculptures.

The Hairy Maclary sculpture, created by Brigitte Wuest, is of Hairy Maclary and eight of his friends – Scarface Claw, Slinky Malinki, Hercules Morse, Muffin McLay, Bottomley Potts, Schnitzel von Krumm, Bitzer Maloney and Zachary Quack.
These larger-than-life bronze statutes bring Dame Lynley Dodd’s much loved children’s book characters to life and create a lasting legacy for generations to enjoy. The sculpture is a fantastic addition to the family activities on Tauranga’s waterfront.

2 Aug 2015. Hairy Maclary & friends, 'Daughters of Ally' and a beer - A great day!
Dame Lynley Dodd's Hairy Maclary character sculptures were unveiled on The Strand on 31 July.
Put aside the $800,000 price tag and we've a great attraction.
Daughters of Ally (Jessie Reyneke-Matthews) across the road at The Phoenix had me pop over for a beer and relax.
I was going to separate out Hairy and Daughters of Ally, but chose to present together, as one, as that is what The Strand Waterfront Tauranga is about.
as I saw it, heard it: Murray Guy

8 Arundel Street, Tauranga
Class among its Class
It is comforting when considering this top value home that its immediate neighbours are of equal or more value.
It is important to know that the street is one of the more desired in this inner city location.
With main bedroom, three children's bedrooms guest bedroom, and three bathrooms the home will be of value to a family.
Having an evening lounge with formal dining area, open plan kitchen/family area (the hub of the home), a games room upstairs and a covered outdoor living adjacent the pool balances the living spaces with the bedrooms perfectly for a family of four or five children.
The 888m2 private surroundings provides a safe playground haven so expect your children and their friends to gather here.
The quality of build here is unquestionable. The strong exterior of masonry plaster, cedar and clay tile is augmented with copper trim, spouting and downpipes.
Inside you will find Perrin and Rowe taps, Gaggenau and Meile kitchen appliances, glass and tile shower boxes, porcelain and granite.
For the uninitiated this location is appropriately known as in the 5 minute zone. From here you have ready access to reputable schools, Tauranga Primary School is in the Street. Boy's and Girl's Colleges are within easy biking distance and extracurricular facility such as rowing, athletics, swimming and sailing are all handy
One of the city's more inspiring properties.

James Stanbridge exhibits at Creative Tauranga in the Bleeding Vinyl Covers exhibition
Catching up with James Stanbridge feels refreshingly like stepping into a retro 1950s science adventure comic book. He's one of 12 mostly idiosyncratic artists contributing to Creative Tauranga and Lightwave Gallery's Bleeding Vinyl Covers Group exhibition.
This musically-themed exhibition, timed to coincide with the National Jazz Festival, was co-curated by Ken Wright from Lightwave Gallery and Angela McKenzie from Creative Tauranga.
Album cover art, an important part of our musical cultural tapestry, provided opportunity for the artists to reinterpret a favourite LP cover, using a range of mediums, such as painting, sculpture, illustration, photography, graphic design and printmaking.
James based his two pieces on Led Zeppelin and its clear his Moby Dick is reminiscent of their debut album cover
James was known as 'the drawing kid' at school and tells me he always planned to be an artist or a scientist.
Growing up in Opotiki, he moved to Tauranga for secondary education, then on to study design.
He works with pencil and has dabbled with paint but clearly likes, as he says: the particular-ness of illustration. As a detail-focused person, the way he draws reflects this.
This is his first exhibition of his original art. He's tutoring at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic and he'll also be part of an upcoming exhibition at Lightwave called 'Boys Toys'.
The Bleeding Vinyl Covers Group Exhibition runs until May 6, 2014, at Creative Tauranga, and then is reinstalled at Lightwave Gallery at 30 Totara St.
Other artists exhibiting are Stephanie Brebner, Clive Armstrong, Nick Eggleston, Ashley Grant, Elliot Mason, Anj Keate, Ken Wright, Lesley Robb, Don Overbeay, Angela McKenzie, and Nicol Sanders-O'Shea.
