Hakodate, Japan - Mount Hakodate Ropeway & Observation Deck (2019)
The Mt. Hakodate Ropeway (函館山ロープウェイ Hakodateyama Rōpuwei) is the name of an aerial lift, as well as its operator. The line climbs Mount Hakodate in Hakodate, Japan. As of 2004, this is the most heavily used aerial lift line in Japan, transporting 1,559,000 riders yearly. The aerial tramway was prominently featured in Noein, a 2005 anime.

We walked around at Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse. It's mostly shopping and eating. We ate a lot of different things and the kids enjoyed it a lot. We got our lunch at Seico Mart, which is a convenience store in Hakodate. Everything looked good and was cheap compared to the US, so we went overboard and loaded up next day's breakfast as well. At night time, we went up to one of the most well known spots in Hakkodate for some night view at Mt. Hakodate.

Exploring HAKODATE - Hokkaido, Japan
Join us around Hakodate - the end of the bullet train line in Hokkaido, Japan, to see one of Japan's top 3 night views at twilight!
It's extremely cold in Hakodate in winter! This was filmed in February in the snow and freezing temperatures. But that didn't stop us taking the tram to explore the Motomachi district, with European-style houses and churches and going on the ropeway up Mount Hakodate to see the beautiful night view. It's best to go at sunset, so you can see the colours and the lights. Then we looked for restaurants in Hakodate and found an amazing curry restaurant called Masala Curris (they have vegetarian curry!). It was delicious! And one of my favourite memories from the trip - walking along the snowy streets at night. It was so quiet, and completely the opposite of Tokyo!

Hakodate (函館市 Hakodate-shi) is a city and port located in Oshima Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. It is the capital city of Oshima Subprefecture.
As of July 31, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 279,851 with 143,221 households, and a population density of 412.83 persons per km2 (1,069.2 persons per sq. mi.). The total area is 677.77 km2 (261.69 sq mi). The city is now the third biggest in Hokkaido after Sapporo and Asahikawa.

The weather kinda sucked, but it was really cool being able to see most of the city going up the ropeway to Mt. Hakodate itself. :)

Tried awesome burgers from Lucky Pierrot, yummy Ajisai ramen, and Hakodate Gotoken curry. Amazing stay in Hotel Paco with complimentary upgrade to Japanese Western style room with onsen.

Hakodate Asaichi (Morning Market), Hakodate City
Asa Ichi in Japanese means morning market. Located close to the JR Hakodate Station itself, the morning market is open usually early in the morning to about 2 in the afternoon. This market sells mostly seafood that Hakodate is known for and dominated by Giant Crabs that are plentiful in the waters around Hakodate and in general around Hokkaido Region. There are over three hundred small to large stalls in this market sprinkled in with many restaurants.
In addition to this you can do squid fishing and the chef will prepare squid shashimi with the squid you caught. Also, there is a Donburi Yokocho market with many Donburi style dishes (usually a rice bowl with different toppings) with seafood delicacies.
Hokkaido region is extremely cold during the winters, so morning market is most enjoyed if you go there during summer time. But if you are the kind who enjoys winter weather, then it the season you visit does not matter. Enjoy!!!

This was the first time to go there.

On the first day, I went to Hakodate Bay Area, Trappistine Convent , Kosetsu-en and looked a night view of Hakodate.

Mount Hakodate Ropeway | Cable Car & Sunset
I was in Hokkaido for a total of 8 days in mid September 2017. We took the 3 minute cable car ride up Mount Hakodate at roughly 5PM and managed to catch the sunset at 6:15PM on that day. It was just the right amount of breeze, not too chilly and not too packed. Watching the sunset and the city lights slowly turning on one by one was such an awesome experience.
