Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Haleakala National Park
Haleakalā National Park is on the Hawaiian island of Maui. It’s home to the dormant Haleakalā Volcano and endangered Hawaiian geese. The Leleiwi and Kalahaku overlooks on the steep Crater Road have views across the West Maui Mountains. Rugged trails in the Summit District pass cinder cones and lava flows. In the coastal area of Kīpahulu are the Pools of Ohe’o, freshwater pools and waterfalls set amid bamboo forest.
Haleakalā National Park is an American national park located on the island of Maui in the state of Hawaii. The park covers an area of 33,265 acres (134.62 km2), of which 19,270 acres (77.98 km2) is a wilderness area. It was originally created as part of the Hawaii National Park along with the volcanoes of Mauna Loa and Kilauea on the island of Hawaiʻi in 1916. Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park was made into a separate national park in 1961. The park area was designated an International Biosphere Reserve in 1980. The name Haleakalā is Hawaiian for house of the sun. According to a local legend, the demigod Maui imprisoned the sun here in order to lengthen the day.
The Hawaiian National Park Language Correction Act of 2000 was proposed to observe the Hawaiian spelling, but it did not become law. The park features the dormant Haleakalā (East Maui) Volcano, which last erupted sometime between 1480 and 1600 AD. The park is divided into two distinct sections: the summit area and the coastal Kipahulu area.

The Sacred Land of Maui, Hawaii: Mystic Haleakala - Documentary 2019
Haleakala National Park, Maui : A Rare and Sacred Landscape is a short documentary film about this historic part of Maui. It was produced for the National Parks Service by Steven M. Bumgardner, who also shot and edited the piece (with additional camerawork by Josh Helling).
Color Grading and Mastering of the program was by Chris Layhe at CLAi. The film was shot over a three year period on a range of smaller cameras, some in rec709 while others were shot using different Log settings, some in 1080p and 720p with others in UHD and 4k, and one set of shots on a cellphone camera - and, of course, all at different frame rates.
The project was certainly something of a challenge to create a unified program from so many visually different sources, and I had to rely heavily on Stephen's expertise as to precisely what colors and tones the earth, vegetation and flowers were.
But that I've been there myself, the end result was definitely well worth the many hours and days spent getting there.
Note:
Thank you Chris Layhe and Haleakala National Park.

SUNRISE OVER HALEAKALA VOLCANIC CRATER, MAUI, HAWAII,
No visit to Maui is complete without watching the sunrise over Haleakala Crater. At 13,000 feet elevation you're looking down on the clouds....The air is thin, it's cold and difficult to breathe. Some of the World's most powerful telescopes are located on top of this dormant volcano. Inside the crater is similar to the moon's surface...It's mystical! info@globalvideoprotv.com

The Detourist Guide To Travel is a long term travel show for the anti-tourist. We’re into experiencing what it’s really like to live, work and enjoy a destination like the locals do, not the people who visit. So, for the past several years we’ve left our home in the Northwest (Tacoma, WA) and lived somewhere new in the world from Vietnam all the way to Spain. What makes us different than the other 100 billion travel vloggers, digital nomads and backpackers on Youtube? We avoid the tourist track. No hostels or resorts. No tour guides or guide books. No souvenirs or travel clothes. We buy vehicles & groceries. We get apartments & jobs. We go slow & take our time, because if a place is worth going, it’s worth staying for a while.

Haleakala Crater - Full Day Volcano Hike GoPro Maui Hawaii
Maui - Hawaii 2014. Haleakala National Park. Full day hiking into the crater. We started at 9 am at Hosmer Grove parking lot. Hitchhiking to Haleakala Visitor Center and climbing to Pa Ka'oao overlook where journey began. It was freezing weather at the top. Expected 34 F. As we walked down temperature rise to lower 40 with sun worming the air. Ideal for hiking out there. It took us 8 hours and 15 min. to walk back to the car. Elevation changed few times and toughest and coolest part of this hike was a steep Halemau'u Trailhead with fast 1000 feet elevation change, narrow trail and really nice views of the crater. Approximately 15 miles hike and over 3000 feet elevation change. All recorded with GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition. Time-lapse made with 800 pictures.

SwitchbackKids .'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Beautiful site, close access to the Haleakala Summit
Any true national park “bucket list” should include a trip to the Haleakala volcano, in Haleakala National Park on the beautiful island of Maui.
And in visiting this beautiful place, you can enhance your experience even greater by camping overnight in the park. Hosmer Grove, located around the 7,000 ft. elevation mark along the road up to Haleakala, is the perfect campground to serve as your base for exploring the area.
Benefits of this campground include the fact that it’s free and offers quick access to the summit of Haleakala (especially for watching the sunrise!), its scenery and birding trail, and the experience of camping so close to a giant volcano in a national park.
The only real downside is that since it requires no reservations or permits, all sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that early arrival is important for acquiring a site, especially during the peak season.
Haleakala was a great highlight of our trip visiting all 59 national parks. We especially enjoyed watching the sunrise from an empty overlook (instead of the crowded summit), backpacking into the crater for a night, and visiting the lush side of the park at Kipahulu.
You can read much more about our two days in the park on our blog: Switchback Kids (Haleakala) (

Maui, Hawaii - Haleakala National Park (Hawaii Travel Vlog 6)
Part 6 of the Hawaii series of videos. This video covers day 7 of the adventure.
Watch Part 5:
On day 7 of our Hawaiian adventure we drove down to the Kipahulu District of the Haleakala National Park. They have quite a few great hikes to go on, especially the Pipiwai Trail, which brings you to the incredible Waimoku Falls. The hike is especially beautiful because it brings you through a Bamboo Forest and then through a rain forest!
After that long (but not too difficult) hike we did some of the nice easier hikes around the visitor center that bring you around the coastline and give you a chance to see a couple of smaller waterfalls.
After the hiking for a while we went back towards the Hana area and ate at Huli Huli Chicken, which had some of the best chicken I have ever had (not exaggerating)!
Finally we finished the day chilling at a couple of the beaches in the area (Hamoa Beach and Waianapanapa Black Sand Beach), which felt great after hiking!
