Beautiful Hawaii ~ Big Island Luau~ Aloha
Beautiful Hawaii, Hawaii (English pronunciation: Listeni/həˈwaɪʲi/ hə-wy-(y)ee; locally, [həˈwɐ(ɪ)ʔi]; Hawaiian: Hawaiʻi [hɐˈvɐiʔi]) is the 50th and most recent U.S. state to join the United States, having joined on August 21, 1959. Hawaii is the only U.S. state located in Oceania and the only one composed entirely of islands. It is the northernmost island group in Polynesia, occupying most of an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean. Hawaii is the only U.S. state not located in the Americas. The state does not observe daylight saving time.
The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian archipelago, which comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles (2,400 km). At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight main islands are—in order from northwest to southeast: Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui and the Island of Hawaiʻi. The last is the largest island in the group; it is often called the Big Island or Hawaiʻi Island to avoid confusion with the state or archipelago. The archipelago is physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion of Oceania.
Hawaii's diverse natural scenery, warm tropical climate, abundance of public beaches, oceanic surroundings, and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists. Because of its central location in the Pacific and 19th-century labor migration, Hawaii's culture is strongly influenced by North American and Asian cultures, in addition to its indigenous Hawaiian culture. Hawaii has over a million permanent residents, along with many visitors and U.S. military personnel. Its capital is Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu.
Hawaii is the 8th-smallest and the 11th-least populous, but the 13th-most densely populated of the fifty U.S. states. It is the only state with an Asian plurality. The state's coastline is about 750 miles (1,210 km) long, the fourth longest in the U.S. after the coastlines of Alaska, Florida and California. (wikipedia)

Polynesian Dancers Vancouver
No Hawaiian vacation or celebration would be complete without polynesian dancers vancouver and a luau. The word luau genuinely just signifies a party or a celebration. Typically in historical Hawaiian culture luaus were offered to commemorate the birth of a child or a wedding. These days the word luau has turned into a household name all across Vancouver, BC and Canada. Whenever we think of traditional Hawaiian, Tahitian or polynesian dancers or a luau nowadays, we think of those low cost plastic lays and these silly plastic tiki cups. Oh, but polynesian dance in Vancouver is so a lot much more. In Hawaii there are two simple sorts of luau and many types of traditional dance. The 1st type of luau strongly resembles that of the original type of luau. This is really a private get together of friends and family members for a special event.
The second type of luau is a commercial luau open to the general public and what we vacationers normally check out. While in the state of Hawaii there will be many diverse luaus to pick from, they are basically all the exact same, with a few various high points. Arriving guests are greeted with a fresh flower lei. The lei is also an important part of polynesian dance costume and story-telling. The entertainment is normally choreographed and top notch with hula or local polynesian dancers and fire eaters. Often the guests offer some of the entertainment themselves. It really is always enjoyable watching grown guys wear hula skirts and try to understand this complicated form of traditional Hawaiian or Tahitian dance. There are diverse alternatives for meals and drink as properly. I myself choose the open bar sort. The meals is generally a buffet, consisting of a roasted pig or probably some sort of roast beef, rice, and of course the Hawaiian staple...pineapple.
I must mention some of the very best known luaus and those with the best reputation. Dancers from all over the islands, including Vancouver BC, can be seen performing the beautiful and graceful art of hula. Although in Maui, the Old Lahaina Luau is the one in particular that should not to be missed. This is easily the most genuine Luau on the island. The polynesian dancers in vancouver are excellent and the food is local, fresh and of the highest quality. The other luaus accessible in Maui are typically completed at the resorts and lack the realism of Old Lahaina. Due to it's well-deserved reputation, the Old Lahaina Luau does demand reservations. In fact, it makes the most sense to plan think of booking prior to even departing for the Hawaii.
Even on the big Island of Hawaii itself, there are a plethora of possibilities to think about. Kona appears to be a common town for the luau and the center for polynesian dance on the isalnd. King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel offers a Luau with a shell lei greeting, and a torch lighting ceremony. Check with the hotel for luau days. On the mornings of luaus spectators can watch the hotel employees bury the pig in the sand and start roasting.
The island of Kaui offers a couple of luau's each with their own particular personality. The dancing is unique as well. Both the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort and the Kilohana Plantation have good luaus, complete with open bars, fire eaters and of course, traditional polynesian dancers and dancing.
Whichever island or islands you select to visit in Hawaii, a Hawaiian luau is an absolute must and can't miss. Whether or not the gorgeous hula girls are your point (scantily clad Polynesian dancers Vancouver) or you are just there for the meals, a luau is certain to please.

Doctor Shortage in Kona Already At Crisis Level
We continue our look at the health care crisis on the Big Island, the fastest growing county in our state.
Last week, we looked at the Hilo side. Wednesday night, we focused on Kona. The doctor shortage there has already reached a dangerous level.
Kona Hospital stands as the medical backbone of the community. It's also where Dr. Stephen Denzer now calls home. He closed down his internal medicine private practice last year, after fifteen years of serving Kealakekua, Hawaii.
