Ha Long Bay Junk Boat Trip - Vietnam
Ha Long Bay is one of the seven New Natural Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our group of 6 took a two day private junk boat trip. We each had their own sleeping cabin, except for the couple who shared. It only cost $402 USD total for all 6 of us, and included the guide, crew, attractions, and 4 meals! I also have footage from the city and Surprise Cave, which will be in seperate videos as this one was getting too long. This is not a sponsored video.

Halong bay, Vietnam
Hạ Long Bay, in northeast Vietnam, is known for its emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands topped by rainforests. Junk boat tours and sea kayak expeditions take visitors past islands named for their shapes
2 days 1 night trip activity
- Cruise
- Kayak
- Cave
- Squid fishing
- Cooking demonstrate
Recommend for 2 days or more for a trip
1 day is a bit too rush.
You will take 4 hours drive and having lunch on the boat, kayaking and cave sight seeing. Then the night time is for squid fishing. For the next day start with wake up at 6:30 to do chinese exercise while the sun is rising in Halong bay. Off shore for the Titop mountain then the boat turns back and arrive at the pier within noon.
The Best Halong Bay Cruise 2014 (do NOT book in Hanoi!!!!!!!!!!!)
- This is the second time in 2014 that I've done a Halong Bay cruise in Vietnam.
I booked through Alibaba's Hotel and Restaurant in Cat Ba.
For $25 I got:
A full day (8 hour) boat tour in and around Cat Ba Island/Ha Long Bay, Vietnam.
A semi-private tour (only 3 people in our group!) with 2 tour guides
A visit to a floating fishing village
A visit to Monkey Island (I saw two monkeys - score!)
An AMAZING authentic Vietnamese lunch cooked for us on the boat (fresh fish/seafood/shrimp, steamed rice w/spices and sauces, chicken and pineapple, clams, and homemade rice wine)
2 hours kayaking in CAVES - it's amazing, you kayak underneath the limestone cliffs and suddenly emerge in this lagoon. There are three secret lakes that connect to each other. They are unbelievably quiet, peaceful, and magical.
BEWARE: I've heard nothing but horror stories about booking a Halong Bay cruise through Hanoi - people get stuck on the boat for hours, and two of my friends got kicked OFF the boat b/c the company had overbooked. They had to find last minute accommodation for the night even though they'd already paid to stay overnight on the boat. Oh, and no refund was offered. No thank you!

There is no better way to experience the great majesty and the mystical atmosphere of Halong.

Dragons Pearl, Indochina Junk Review, 3D2N tour @ Halong Bay, Vietnam
This is a basic review of my experience on board the junk Dragons Pearl III with Indochina Junk. Room featured in the video is just the standard double room on the boat.
You cruise through the less traveled Bai Tu Long Bay which is deserted in comparison to the main part of Halong Bay. I would heavily recommend the 3 day 2 night version as you get to enjoy the lovely experience of the dinner in the cave which is great and it is a 4 hour drive from Hanoi each way so you get a lot more time to relax and take it all in.
The food they serve is great and all fresh and local. It is seafood heavy but before you depart they ask you what you prefer and they cater it to all needs(vegetarian or even just chicken based).
We took our trip in May 2014. Looking at their website now it appears they have a large new boat but I would recommend going on their smaller ones which are more traditional junks and feel more cosy.
Vietnam's Nature, A Lan Ha Bay Junk Boat Trip. (Ha long bay alternative)

YACHT ULTRA HA LONG BAY VIETNAM CRUISE CHINESE JUNK BOAT
Here is a beautiful Chinese junk we saw during our 3 day cruise on Halong Bay, Vietnam. The bay is amazing and Ha means Fallen and Long means dragon , so the story goes that a family of dragons settled here from the sky. Hence the design of the mountains ...like the back of a dragon. To protect the fishermen. :)
Memories of Boat People in Ha Long Bay
Video on a boat at Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. My mom told me that she cried her heart out when she came back to visit nearly 30 years later because these boats are similar to the ones she escaped from Viet Nam 3 decades ago.
Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
A tour by sampan of a floating fishing village and pearl farm in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam.
Early Sail in Quang Yen
Soon after launching, the builder, Mr. Le Duc Chan took the new boat out into the main stream of the river for a short shake down. The building site is up a short dredged slip off the Chanh River, on the south bank, about 4.7 km below the town of Quang Yen, or 7.5 km above the river's mouth in Halong Bay. Fishing junks like this one worked in Halong by by the hundreds up until about 1990, when engine powered boats (like the ones seen tied up in the video) finally took over. The last of the men who actually built and sailed them for a living are old men now or gone. Mr. Chan, the builder of this boat apprenticed to his father and his grandfather when he was sixteen, and except for three years during wartime he has built boats on this site ever since. Now in his late sixties, he is still a vigorous man working every day with a good crew in the yard. The boat was built at the behest of an archaeologist, Dr. Nguyen Viet, who has been interested in the prehistorical boats of Vietnam, and realized that the chance to record construction of a traditional sailing junk was likely to come to an end within the next few years. He funded the project and had the entire construction sequence filmed and photographed, 8 to 10 hours per day for the entire two month construction period. During construction and when construction was complete, a naval architect, Mr. Do Thai Binh and associates did a detailed takeoff of the build and documented the vessel for its registration. Mr. Binh is a staunch supporter of Vietnamese traditional boat building and sailing and is working toward a National Maritime Museum for Vietnam.
This video was captured by Mr. Chan's son.
Day Two // Halong Bay, Vietnam [V/3]
PART TWO of our 3 day trip to Vietnams Ha Long Bay.
Junk boating Across Halong Bay Vlog | Things to do in Vietnam | GLOBETROTTING HEELS
Halong Bay is one of the most visited place in Vietnam and as usual it is crowded with tourists. I am not the person who likes to visit the most touristy places because of the crowd. But my close friend recommended me Halong Bay and told me not to miss it at any cost as it will be one of my life's best experience.
So I booked a 2 days 1 night junkboat cruise with Oasis Bay Cruises and these tours are expensive, so there is a need to skim the market and look for the best price because bad cruise will end up making your trip a nightmare. I got lucky and I took my friend's recommendation for Oasis Bay Cruises and I loved every moment of it. Watch the video to know all about my experience and plan your next trip.
