This week on Hawaiian Grown TV, Executive Chef Grant Kawasaki visits Hamakua Heritage Farm to see how they cultivate some of the worlds best mushrooms from the Hamakua coast in Laupahoehoe. Then we follow the crop to one of the Big Islands favorite restaurants in Hilo Town, Cafe Pesto with Chef Casey. Save Our Hamakua Heritage Ditch

The State of Hawaii is threatening to take the 24 mile corridor of land underlying the Lower Hamakua Heritage Ditch Waterway and intends to put a BIG BLACK PIPE to enclose and bury the entire waterway. If this happens, we will no longer have the enjoyment and access to any portion of this precious heritage and historical asset.

Our Concern:

We are not denying the State the use of the Lower Hamakua Ditch irrigation system. Rather, we are objecting to the piping of the entire length of the waterway and seek to achieve a settlement that would allow the ditch to remain open.

Our Proposal:

Landowners want to work out a compromise to ensure the secutiry of the flow of water in this first five mile section while maintaining this section as an open vessel system.
