Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Hana
Hāna is a census-designated place in Maui County, Hawaii, United States. The population was 1,235 at the 2010 census. Hana is located at the eastern end of the island of Maui and is one of the most isolated communities in the state. It is reached mainly via the Hana Highway, a long, winding, 52-mile-long (84 km) highway along Maui's northern shore.
Like most of Hawaii, Hana was probably first settled between 500 and 800 AD by Polynesian peoples. The first sugarcane plantation in the area was established by George Wilfong in 1849, and by 1883 there were six plantations operating in the area. By 1946, however, the last sugarcane plantation had closed, leading plantation workers to move mostly to the west side of Maui. That same year saw the opening of the Ka-'uiki Inn, today known as the Hotel Travaasa - Hana, which helped transition the economy towards tourism. The winding, famously scenic Hana Highway was completed in 1926. Originally paved with gravel, it provided the first land vehicle access to the town. Hana's population peaked in the first half of the twentieth century, with a population of about 3,500.
Hana is located directly on the East Rift Zone of East Maui Volcano (Haleakalā). The Hana Airport offers flights with regular service to the Big Island, Kahului, and Oahu. According to the United States Census Bureau, this CDP has a total area of 11.7 square miles (30.3 km2), of which 10.5 square miles (27.3 km2) is land and 1.2 square miles (3.0 km2), 9.77%, is water.

It is one of five gardens of the non-profit National Tropical Botanical Garden, the others being McBryde, Allerton, and Limahuli Garden and Preserve on Kauaʻi, and The Kampong in Florida.[1]
• The garden was established in 1972 on Maui's northern coast, with rugged black lava seascapes, and is surrounded by one of Hawaiʻi's last undisturbed hala (Pandanus tectorius) forests.

Today the garden contains 220 accessions of approximately 120 varieties of breadfruit collected from field expeditions to over 17 Pacific island groups in Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia, as well as Indonesia, the Philippines, and the Seychelles. Hana lava tubes - Maui Hawaii
For a stop unlike any other, keep an eye out for Mile Marker #31 along Maui’s famous Road to Hana to experience the raw beauty and fascinating history of the Hana lava tubes on your next journey to The Valley Isle:
Less than a half mile down ‘Ula’ino Road just near Kahanu Garden and Wai’anapanapa State Park, the Hana lava tubes make for an interesting, stunning stop along a road trip where it can be hard to narrow down which stops are worth your time, and which you should skip.
Offering self-guided tours for around $12 per person daily from 10:30am to 4pm, guests under 5 are offered free entrance to this Road to Hana must-see. While you’re supplied with a flashlight and optional umbrella, we recommend wearing slip-resistant footwear, as the cave floor is almost always wet and can be slippery. Descend into the dramatic cave entrance, and have fun exploring the many sites of the largest lava tube on Maui, and the 18th largest in the world!
Formed approximately 960 years ago, it’s estimated that only about half of the cave has been explored to this day, holding such unique formations and areas like the fallout shelter, lava stalagmites, chocolate corridor of stalactites, and even blind cave insects like crickets, flatworms and millipedes, though there are no bats present inside the cave.
From 1950 to 1970, the cave was primarily used as dumping grounds for cow bones from a nearby slaughterhouse, later removed in the late 1990’s by the present-day owner of the cave, who was awarded the State of Hawaii Environmental Preservation Award for his effort. Spend some time learning more about the unique structures and history of this otherworldly attraction, and enjoy other property highlights like the Red Ti Botanical Garden Maze, or bring picnic supplies to savor on the stunning property grounds before continuing your drive to explore Hana’s endless natural wonders.
Restrooms are available onsite, and keep in mind that the average tour time is approximately 40 minutes. Visit our website to see a detailed guide of our recommended stops along the Road to Hana, and remember, it’s about the journey, not the destination. Aloha!

The Amazing Banyan Tree in Lahaina, Maui. Hawaii. FIlmed with DJI Phantom 3 Pro and DJI Osmo.
The Lahaina Banyan Court Park is a public park located at the corner of Front Street and Canal Street in the town of Lahaina, Hawaii, which was the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii from 1820 to 1845. The 1.94 acres (0.79 ha) park, also known as Lahaina Courthouse Square and commonly called Banyan Tree Park, contains multiple heritage sites on the Lahaina Historic Trail, and a self-guided walking tour through the Lahaina Historic Districts.[1]
The park occupies the site of the Old Lahaina Fort, originally built in 1831. Hoapili, the Royal Governor of Maui, built the fort to protect the town from riotous sailors when Lahaina was used as an anchorage for the North Pacific whaling fleet.[2] After the fort was demolished in 1854, a courthouse was built on the site. A portion of the old Lahaina Fort was reconstructed in 1964. The old Lahaina Courthouse was recognized as a contributing property of the Lahaina Historic District in 1965, and is currently used by the Lahaina Arts Council and the Lahaina Historic Society.
Sheriff William Owen Smith planted an Indian banyan tree in the courtyard square in 1873 to memorialize the 50th anniversary of the first American Protestant mission in Lahaina. The banyan tree has become the largest banyan tree in Hawaii, and one of the largest banyan trees in the United States. Its extensive trunk and aerial root system now covers 0.66 acres (0.27 ha). The park is managed by the County of Maui and the Lahaina Restoration Foundation.
Banyan Tree Lahaina Maui 2017
The banyan tree in Lahaina, in Maui, Hawaii, United States, was planted on April 24, 1873, in Lahaina to mark the 50th anniversary of the arrival of first American Protestant mission. The banyan tree is located close to the port in the historical Lahaina town, which was the former capital of Hawaii. It is the oldest banyan tree in Hawaii.
