Visiting Amazing Maui, Island in Hawaii, United States
The island of Maui (/ˈmaʊ.iː/; Hawaiian: [ˈmɐwwi])[3] is the second-largest of the Hawaiian Islands at 727.2 square miles (1,883 km2) and is the 17th largest island in the United States.[4] Maui is part of the State of Hawaii and is the largest of Maui County's four islands, bigger than Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, and unpopulated Kahoʻolawe. In 2010, Maui had a population of 144,444, third-highest of the Hawaiian Islands, behind that of Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island. Kahului is the largest census-designated place (CDP) on the island with a population of 26,337 as of 2010 and is the commercial and financial hub of the island.[5] Wailuku is the seat of Maui County and is the third-largest CDP as of 2010. Other significant places include Kīhei (including Wailea and Makena in the Kihei Town CDP, which is the second-most-populated CDP in Maui); Lahaina (including Kāʻanapali and Kapalua in the Lahaina Town CDP); Makawao; Pāʻia; Kula; Haʻikū; and Hāna. Hawaii - Driving Maui - Road to Hana in 30min
(5/19/2015)
This video provides a full accounting of driving conditions from the small town of Pa'ia along the the narrow, winding Hana Highway 360 to the southeast side of the island, several miles past Hana. Multitudes of narrow roads, 1 lane bridges, switchback and blind curves make this trek an all day affair as well as a hair raising adventure. Renting a convertible allows you to get the full experience, but be sure to you can manually shift the transmission in low gear for engine braking on those downhill stretches. If you are an overly cautious driver, please remember to pull off when possible to let locals and other faster traffic pass. Please be sure to mind yield signs identifying one-lane traffic zones and 5-7 car limit local courtesy to one-lane crossings.
BE WARNED: There are many hazards along this road besides the road itself, including but not limited to:
- Distracted Tourist Drivers - These drivers are not familiar with the road nor the hazardous driving conditions. They may drive slow, stop unexpectedly and not yield at one-lane crossings as required. Try to be patient with their ignorance.
- Frustrated Locals - Some locals have very little patience for tourist drivers. They tend to drive fast, loose, tailgate and will notify you to get out of their way. I recommend to let them pass as soon as possible and try to forgive with a smile.
- Random Pedestrians - Waterfall enthusiasts, photographers and other random pedestrians may find their way on bridges and in the middle of road. Watch out as they are unpredictable and do not always yield to traffic.
- Vegetation - Trees, grasses, brush and other plants may obstruct your view of opposing yield stops and other hazards. Limbs and other debris may find their way onto the road as the road is typically under a heavy canopy.
- Water and Falling Rocks - I've never come across falling rocks, but as the road is cut into the side of old volcanic rock and it rains a lot, both may find their way on the road.
LASTLY: This road can be a wonderful experience, however please know before you go. Be safe and a kind driver.

Driving Tour: Maui, Hawaii - Road To Hana
Maui, Hawaii, 2012 - Here's another throwback. During our baby-moon vacation, armed with a GoPro, we drove around the amazing island of Maui. We drove through a couple of quaint towns, stopped by an organic fruit stop, watched the breath-taking views of the ocean as well as the vivid colors of the tropics. It rained, there was sunshine, there was surf. What makes it such an adventure are the natural road hazards that you sometimes find on the way. There were rock and mudslide, flooding on the narrow roads. The sense of danger is the adventure. Such an amazing ride. Hope you enjoy.
Hawaiian Islands Documentary: Maui the 2nd Biggest of the Hawaiian Islands
Hawaiian Islands Documentary: Maui the 2nd Biggest of the Hawaiian Islands. Hawaii is a state of United States comprising an archipelago of the Hawaiian Islands in the central Pacific Ocean. The erstwhile known as the Sandwich Islands, the Hawaiian Islands became the U.S. territory in 1900. The Hawaiian Islands include eight major islands including Nihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lānai, Kahoolawe, Maui and the Island of Hawaii and many islets.
A British explorer, Captain James Cook, discovered the Hawaiian Islands and named them as 'the Sandwich Islands'. The Hawaiian Islands were united for the first time under a single ruler, King Kamehameha the Great.
Hawaii became the 50th state of United States in 1959. The state of hawaii is also known as the Aloha State. Aloha is acknowledgment that can be used as greeting. The state is the southernmost part of that country, situated 2500 miles from the mainland. HI is the abbreviation of Hawaii. Honolulu is the capital and the largest city of the state. Hawaiian and English are the official languages of the state.
Tourism is one of the cornerstones of Hawaiian economy. The tourism is the largest industry in Hawaii. Hawaii is sometimes called the paradise of the Pacific because of its exquisite beauty including abundant sunshine, lush green plants & gay flowers, palm-fringed, coral beaches with rolling white surf, and mesmerizing cloud-covered volcanic peaks rising to majestic heights.
Maui is the second-largest of the Hawaiian Islands and is the 17th largest island in the United States. Maui is part of the State of Hawaii and is the largest of Maui County's four islands, bigger than Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, and unpopulated Kahoʻolawe. In 2010, Maui had a population of 144,444, third-highest of the Hawaiian Islands, behind that of Oʻahu and Hawaii Island.
The most important places to visit in Maui are: Hana, Haleakala National Park, Iao Valley State Park, Kaanapali Beach, Makena Beach State Park, Molokini, Pools of Oheo, Makawao and many more.

Lahaina Maui Hawaii Island - Visiting Hawaii Via Celebrity Cruise Lines Solstice Ship
In this video I visit Lahaina Maui and visit the shops and attractions along Lahaina's Front Street. Maui has been voted the best Island in the world and is one of most popular Hawaiian Islands. Next time I visit Lahaina I am going to bring my quadcopter drone.
Lahaina was once home to over 400 whaling ships and was the capital of Hawaii. Today, Lahaina has a small fleet of whale watching boats as well as numerous deep sea fishing boats. If you're more interested in just observing the marine life you can take an Atlantis Submarine or glass bottom boat to see Maui's colorful undersea life first hand.
The legend of Maui is a strange one. Maui is said to have been a demigod who taught people about fire. He also is said to have taken his grandmother's jawbone and used it as a hook to bring the Hawaiian islands up from the sea floor.
This video is an original work created from video and photos I took on Maui during a Hawaiian Cruise.

Maui: Road to Hana
The Hana Highway is a 64.4-mile-long (103.6 km) stretch of Hawaii Routes 36 and 360 which connects Kahului to the town of Hana in east Maui.
Although Hana is only about 52 miles (84 km) from Kahului, it takes about 2.5 hours to drive even when no stops are made since the highway is very winding and narrow and passes over 59 bridges, of which 46 are only one lane wide. There are approximately 620 curves along Route 360 from just east of Kahului to Hana, almost all of it through lush, tropical rainforest. Many of the concrete and steel bridges date back to 1910 and all but one are still in use. That one bridge, badly damaged by erosion, has been replaced by a portable steel ACROW bridge erected by the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
In August 2000, the highway was designated as the Hana Millennium Legacy Trail by President Bill Clinton, with the trail start designated in Pa?ia. The Hana Highway was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 15, 2001.
The Hana Highway is a popular tourist attraction in Maui. Guidebooks often devote large sections to traveling the highway leading to the eastern side of Maui.
Beyond the town of Hana, the Hana Highway becomes Hawaii State Road 330 and leads to the ?Ohe?o Gulch where the Seven Sacred Pools are located within the Kipahulu Area of the Haleakala National Park.
Occasionally the dirt road past Route 31 is closed to traffic due to landslides.

Driving the Road to Hana, Maui, Hawaii
This video provides a short sample of driving conditions while traveling from the southeast side of Maui along the the narrow, winding Hana Highway 360 (2/2/2013). Many guides define the Road to Hana starting in the small town of Pa'ia and traveling along Hana Highway 360 to the southeast side of the island, several miles past Hana. Multitudes of narrow roads, 1 lane bridges, switchbacks and blind curves make this trek an all day affair as well as a hair raising adventure. If you are an overly cautious driver, please remember to pull off when possible to let locals and faster traffic pass. Destination Makena - by @alohastoked
Makena beach is a beach of many names. It is also referred to as Big Beach, Bigs, or the traditional Hawaiian name : Oneloa Beach. This beach is located on Maui's Southern end, past all of the hotels in Wailea. Just keep driving, just keep driving!
*Warning : The Shore Break at this beach during the summer months can be extremely dangerous. Broken backs, necks, collar bones, and wrists are commonplace here. A few tips : Never turn your back to the sea while visiting this beach. I have seen many a tourist become a tumbleweed of sand and screams while trying to get a cool photo near the shore break. If the waves feel too big. Don't go out in the water. The locals make it look easy but trust us, this is not the shore break to play in when the summer surf is up.
Thankfully, Makena beach now has 3 fully staffed lifeguard stands during park hours (6am-6pm). Be safe, and enjoy one of Maui's most beautiful beaches.
Pro Tip : wear a rash guard instead of sunscreen if you can. Sunscreen isn't helping the delicate reef systems in Hawaii and the less of it we have, the better. If you must wear sunscreen, try to go as organic as you can, and wait 20 min before you enter the ocean!
*Eh, and no forget to take all the trash out, that you take in : )
