Cab Ride on Japanese Tram Osaka City Hankai Tramway Uemachi Line
Hankai Uemachi Line is tramway line that links Tennoji-ekimae stop with Sumiyoshi stop. In this video, the tram started from Sumiyoshikoen stop. But the section from Sumiyoshikoen to Sumoyoshi was closed in January 31 2016. The Tennoji station is big station which has many lines. Now, Tennoji-ekimae stop is reconstructed, so street scene is different from Abeno stop to Tennojiekimae stop. The tram in this video is MO 701 for replacing old tram which was made by Tokyu Car Corporation in 1987. And, the first picture of video is MO 606 of the same shape which was renewed with some old tram parts that are controler and brake system etc. I took this video in October 2011.

Hankai Tramway Company Scenes - Osaka, Japan - mid 1990s
If you like old-time interurban tramways/railways, have a look at this presentation. It features comprehensive coverage of the Hankai Tramway Company in Osaka, Japan, and includes run-pasts, driver's views, and stills. The Hankai Tramway has street-running, private-right-of-way, and middle-of-the-road operations using lots of older equipment from the 1920s and 1930s. There is also short segments showing Bullet trains and other railways.
An Afternoon Exploring Hankai Tramway, Osaka, Kansai
(Repost this video due to music copyright issue, I did some minor editing too)
I have been editing some old photos and videos during my previous trip and I would like to share with you a compiled video of our ride on the Hankai Tramway. The trams have this nostalgia feel to it, not something we have in Singapore, also to catch a glimpse of how it is like for the locals. It was an excellent experience. We used ICOCA card for the rides, find out more about payment and daypass on their Japanese website as they are not in the English page.
Basically, you board the tram from the backdoor, when you are alighting, you alight from the front door where the tram operator is and that is also when you pay for your ride.

Osaka Hankai Tram 阪堺電気軌道
The Hankai Tram (which is operated by a subsidiary of Nankai) is the last remaining tram in Osaka. It operates over both dedicated lines and along roads. there are two lines - the Nankai Line (Ebisucho〜Hamaderaekimae) and Uemachi Line (Tennoji〜Sumiyoshi) although most trains operate between Tennoji〜Abikomichi〜Hamaderaekimae. Ebisucho station has old wooden signal box and Sumiyoshi junction has a signal hut. The depot is at Abikomichi.

The Hankai Tramway operates two tramlines from southern Osaka to Sakai City (堺市). This tramline service dates back to the early 1900s. A variety of sleek and modern as well as vintage models dating back to 1928 run on the Hankai tramlines.
Sumiyoshi taisha (also known as Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine) is a Shinto (神道) shrine in Sumiyoshi ward in Osaka. It is the main shrine of all the Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan. However, the oldest shrine that enshrines the Sumiyoshi sanjin (住吉三神), the three Sumiyoshi kami (神), is the Sumiyoshi shrine in Hakata (博多区).
It is called Sumiyoshi-san or Sumiyossan by the locals, and is famous for the large crowds that come to the shrine on Japanese New Year's Day for hatsumōde (初詣).
Sumiyoshi taisha enshrines the Sumiyoshi tanjin—Sokotsutsu no Onomikoto, Nakatsutsu no Onomikoto, and Uwatsutsu no Onomikoto—and Okinagatarashihime no Mikoto (Empress Jingū/神功皇后), and they are collectively known as the Sumiyoshi Ōkami, the great gods of Sumiyoshi. Another term is Sumiyoshi no Ōgami no Miya. It gives its name to a style of shrine architecture known as Sumiyoshi-zukuri.
