Exploring Hanoi Vietnam
While in Hanoi i got to visit a few different places.
Hỏa Lò Prison
Hanoi Hilton redirects here. For the 1987 film, see The Hanoi Hilton (film). For the hotel operated by the Hilton International Corporation
The name Hoa Lo, commonly translated as fiery furnace or even Hell's hole, also means stove. The name originated from the street name phố Hỏa Lò, due to the concentration of stores selling wood stoves and coal-fire stoves along the street from pre-colonial times.
The Old Quarter
Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital lies in the North of the country and is one of the country’s top tourist hot spots. It offers French-colonial architecture, a rich food culture and a long history (the city celebrated its millennium in 2010.) The most well known and important districts in Hanoi are Ba Dinh District (aka the French Quarter) where the government offices are located and Hoan Kiem District (aka the Old Quarter) which is considered the city’s business hub and main tourist destination.

Enjoying Tet traditional atmosphere in Hanoi Vietnam
As Tet holiday is just few days away (Lunar New Year), the Hanoian are rushing to shop for decorators to beautify their houses. And the specialized streets in the Old Quarter would always be their first destination for going shopping while enjoying the festive atmosphere of the traditional Tet holiday.
We think it will be a great chance to make a trip to Vietnam on the occasion of Tet since you can feel the fantastic atmosphere of the biggest festival in our country.

Lost in Hanoi (or Search for Ho Chi Min), Vietnam Episode 21
This is a walkabout in Vietnam's Hanoi in search of Ho Chi Min's mausoleum. Well finding it was one thing, another was figuring out when it was open. And to fill time while waiting to get in we made a side excursion to Halong Bay. But finding my way back to the Guest House at the end of the in this town is a trial to test even an experienced trekker.

Vietnam Lost in Hanoi Video Details
Or Search for Ho Chi Min
My objective was to see the entombed body of Ho Chi Minh but I didn’t realize it would be complicated.
For those of you who live under a rock or don’t watch Chuck Noris episodes, Ho Chi Min is like Mao to China, Stalin to old USSR, George Washington to the USA or Colonel Sanders to KFC. He’s the main man.
I began by wandering around the city most of the day in search of the mausoleum, which was clearly marked on my map. Called Den Ngoc Son.
I started from the town center at Hoan Kiem Lake, which means Lake of the Returned Sword. According to legend, an emperor returned the magic sword, that gave him victory over the invading Chinese, to a golden turtle god that lived in this lake.
From the lake I wandered around for hour until I found the mausoleum at last. Where upon I was told that it was closed.
So off we went to Halong Bay for a day of distraction. Halong Bay means descending dragon. This is an area of limestone karst islands. In layman’s terms, a really cools set of islands with lots of caves.
The area is all about tourism and fish farms. And lets not forget about all those caves. We go to check out the cave. Like all tourist caves, it was pretty and well lit.
After a long day of exploring we returned to Hanoi.
On the next day we tried again for the mausoleum. This time I arrived early. Ok maybe too early. I arrived in time to watch the changing of the guards.
Then finally got in to see the old boy. But sorry, not cameras allowed. But on a brighter note, even in Vietnam, women love to pose for a camera.

Obama arriving in Hanoi on historic visit
(22 May 2016) US President Barack Obama arrived in Vietnam on Sunday, the first stop on his weeklong Asia trip.
He is the third sitting president to visit Vietnam since the end of the war.
Obama's mission in Vietnam and later Japan is to build stronger economic and security ties with Asian-Pacific allies anxious about the rise of an increasingly muscular China.

VIETNAM: HANOI: 7TH ANNUAL FRANCOPHONE SUMMIT PRESS CONFERENCE
English/Nat
French President Jacques Chirac has said he's one hundred per cent behind the United Sates in its current standoff with Iraq.
But Chirac also reiterated his commitment to finding a diplomatic rather than a military solution to the crisis.
The French President was speaking at the 49-nation French Speaking Francophonie summit in Hanoi - where former U-N chief Boutros Boutros-Ghali was elected the group's first ever Secretary General.
Sunday's final day of the Francophonie Summit saw a show of solidarity by its 49 member nations.
The loose club of French speaking countries has decided to firm up its organisation with the appointment of a figurehead.
A private vote took place at the Hanoi conference centre for the post. There was only one candidate - former U-N Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.
Confirmation of the result soon arrived, at which point the new Francophonie Secretary General thanked his Vietnamese hosts.
He praised the spirit of cooperation at the three day gathering.
The appointment is an attempt to develop stronger ties among the organisation's diverse membership.
The Francophonie now plans to expand its mandate from linguistics to politics.
A joint declaration by the group also expressed interest in playing a more active role in promoting democracy and dealing with regional conflict resolution.
There was very little public dispute on show - with the French speaking nations largely avoiding mutual criticism.
Even tricky human rights questions were answered behind closed doors - in keeping with the group's primary status as a forum for cultural exchange.
Leaders were keen to move the discussion on to less controversial economic issues.
But the agenda was predictably hijacked by the unfolding crisis between Iraq and the United States, following the expulsion of U-S weapons inspectors.
French President Jacques Chirac has been notable for his refusal to give France's backing to military action.
But the summit platform gave him the chance to pledge his moral support.
SOUNDBITE: (French)
I spoke for a long time with Bill Clinton this morning, I told him that France was behind the UN and the United Sates 100 percent in this crisis. That's the first point, and the second - that we were all agreed on trying to find a diplomatic solution to this crisis that we're experiencing at the moment.
SUPER CAPTION: Jacques Chirac, President of France
The Canadian Prime Minister was then asked what an organisation like the Francophonie can realistically do to help in such a situation.
His reply - in keeping with the spirit of the summit - was to preach non-confrontational solutions to the world's crises.
SOUNDBITE: (French)
(The Francophonie) is an organisation that has political and moral weight when there's a conflict. The question over sanctions or no sanctions, as President Chirac said, is used by the United Nations. In the Commonwealth there's been the suspension of South Africa and the suspension of Nigeria, and it's a technique that has not yet been accepted by the Francophonie. It's perhaps not necessary within the Francophonie, but has been useful within the Commonwealth.
SUPER CAPTION: Jean Chretien, Canadian Prime Minister
The Francophonie hope that in future they can wield ever greater political and economic clout.
But a gathering that produced few concrete agreements, and even fewer hard stands, seems unlikely to further the cause of what remains a language-based alliance.
