Our Labor Day Weekend Outing At Lompoc/Solvang, CA (September 4-5, 2011)
Watch in 480p (high quality). In this video, it shows you me and my family's Labor Day outing in Solvang, CA. It was around 4 hours away, heading southward towards Southern California. It was actually the southern end of the Central Coast of California.
So first, it shows our long journey to Lompoc, CA. We stopped by San Ardo for a short restroom/pit stop. We passed through a few cities, including Paso Robles and Pismo Beach. We were going to Solvang the next day.
We arrived in Lompoc, CA around sunset time. We got to our Best Western O'Cairns Inn at approximately 7:20 p.m. It was a nice hotel, with nicely made beds and even a flat screen TV! Usually hotels still have those old box TVs and such. I was very impressed with our room as you can hear from my reactions.
For dinner we went to The Budget Cafe, located just a few steps west of our hotel. I had my favorite; Fish N Chips! We were actually suppose to get a hotel at Solvang but it was fully booked. After dinner, me and my sis and Richie went to the lobby to use the internet a bit. They had a nice lobby!
Then the following day of September 5, 2011, it was officially Labor Day so we were then headed to Solvang, CA, our main destination of this trip. We had to get gas before hitting the road once again. We used Highway 246 to head eastward towards Solvang. Nice scenery was seen along the way but it was foggy/cloudy.
We arrived to Solvang, CA about 9:a0 a.m. We first stopped at the visitor center to get a walking map of the town as well as look at other goodies the town has to offer for us tourists. Our first stop was the Solvang Park. Afterwards, we went to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum. It was a 2 story building. They had a cool library on the 2nd floor. This was along Mission Drive. Then we continued our walk by Alisal Road and found a cool clock store. Never seen so many clocks! Then we continued down Alisal Road and saw beautiful buildings and also a windmill.
For our snack, we went to the Solvang Restaurant. We tried the famous Aebleskiver. It was delicious! Following our delicious snack and break, we headed to see the Elverhoj Museum along Elverhoy Way. Unfortunately, they were closed today, due to Labor Day I think. While heading back, we saw a 19th-century Danish streetcar, the horse-drawn Hønen. It takes visitors on sightseeing tours around Solvang. For our second break and snack, we visited Mortensen's Bakery. They had pretty tasty Danish bread as well.
Then for our final place, we went to see the Old Mission Santa Ines. This was actually located in the center of Solvang, CA. There was a nice rose garden while walking towards the Church and Museum. We walked through the hallway, with beautiful arches. The church also had their own olive grove. It was dedicated to the church on October 7, 2007.
The remainder of the video shows more sights and sounds around Solvang, CA. We left the town at around 3 p.m. since the drive home was quite long. Hope you guys enjoyed the video! :) Happy Labor Day!

Solvang GoPro
Solvang (/ˈsɒlvæŋ/; Danish: [ˈsoːlvɑŋˀ]; Danish for 'sunny field') is a city in Santa Barbara County, California. It is located in the Santa Ynez Valley. The population was 5,245 at the 2010 census, down from 5,332 at the 2000 census. Solvang was incorporated as a city on May 1, 1985.
Solvang was founded in 1911 on almost 9,000 acres (3,600 ha) of the Rancho San Carlos de Jonata Mexican land grant, by a group of Danes who traveled west to establish a Danish colony far from the midwestern winters. The city is home to a number of bakeries, restaurants, and merchants offering a taste of Denmark in California. The architecture of many of the façades and buildings reflects traditional Danish style. There is a copy of the famous Little Mermaid statue from Copenhagen, as well as one featuring the bust of famed Danish fable writer Hans Christian Andersen. A replica of Copenhagen's Round Tower or Rundetårn in the scale 1:3 was finished in 1991 and can be seen in the town center.
Mission Santa Inés, one of the California missions (National Historic Landmark), is located near the center of the town, at the junction of State Route 246 and Alisal Road.
