Hanuman Ghat- Varanasi
Hanuman Ghat, earlier known as Ramesvaram Ghat, is situated at a holy spot famed as Juna Akhara in Varanasi. Lord Hanuman is a God of physical strength; so the ghat is a favourite destination of body builders and wrestlers. Incidentally, the word 'akhara' also means a court or a special ground where the wrestlers and body builders perform their exercises and hold competitions.
Hanuman Ghat was also the abode of renowned saint of Vaishnava sect, Vallabhacharya, a great devotee of Lord Krishna.
The ghat houses a temple founded by saint-poet Tulsi Das who wrote the world-famous epic of Ramayana. The ghat also boasts of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam of Sri Sankaracharya Matha at Varanasi. Also, the Sri Kamakoteeswar Mandir is a grand temple where devotional services are regularly held.
Varanasi / Banaras, is a city on the banks of the Ganges (Ganga) in Uttar Pradesh, 320 kilometres (200 mi) southeast of the state capital, Lucknow. It is the holiest of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism and Jainism, and played an important role in the development of Buddhism. Some Hindus believe that death at Varanasi brings salvation. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and the oldest in India.Varanasi is also known as the favourite city of the Hindu deity Lord Shiva as it has been mentioned in the Rigveda that this city at older times was known as Kashi or Shiv ki Nagri.
Many of its temples were plundered and destroyed by Mohammad Ghauri in the 12th century. The temples and religious institutions in the city now are dated to the 18th century.
The Kashi Naresh (Maharaja of Kashi) is the chief cultural patron of Varanasi, and an essential part of all religious celebrations. The culture of Varanasi is closely associated with the Ganges. The city has been a cultural center of North India for several thousand years, and has a history that is older than most of the major world religions. The Benares Gharana form of Hindustani classical music was developed in Varanasi, and many prominent Indian philosophers, poets, writers, and musicians live or have lived in Varanasi. Gautama Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath located near Varanasi.
Varanasi is the spiritual capital of India. Scholarly books have been written in the city, including the Ramcharitmanas of Tulsidas. Today there is a temple of his namesake in the city, the Tulsi Manas Mandir. One of the largest residential universities of Asia the Banaras Hindu University is located here. Varanasi, called by many names is also known as the city of temples, the holy city of India, the religious capital of India, the city of shiva, and the city of learning.

Sunset at Dashashwamedh Ghat (Varanasi - India)
09/08/2018
Dashashwamedh Ghat is the main ghat in Varanasi on the Ganga River. It is located close to Vishwanath Temple and is probably the most spectacular ghat. Two Hindu legends are associated with it: According to one, Lord Brahma created it to welcome Lord Shiva. According to another legend, Lord Brahma sacrificed ten horses during Dasa-Ashwamedha yajna performed here. (wikipedia)

Hanuman Ghat Bhaktapur
This impressive collection of chaitya, Shiva statues, Shaivite shrines and lingam in the town's southeast includes what could well be the two largest Shiva lingam (in equally large yoni) in Nepal. The site was damaged in the 2015 quake, but most structures are still standing. Through the archway are more statues beside the stinking confluence of rivers at Hanuman Ghat. Note the exquisitely carved images of Ganesh, Sakyamuni, Ram and Sita, Hanuman and Vishnu/Narayan, reclining on a bed of snakes.

Varanasi Hindu Cremation Ceremony Manikarnika Burning Ghat *HD* Masaan Movie Location
Varanasi (kashi, Benaras), India - The video shows the Hindu Cremation Ceremony of Human Body at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi, Masaan Movie Location, Cannes Winner. Manikarnika Ghat is the primary cremation ghat in Varanasi. Hindu mythology teaches that the ghat is especially sacred and that persons cremated there receive moksha. It is one of the oldest ghats in Varanasi. It is revered in Hindu religion. When Mata Sati (Aadi shakti mata)sacrificed her life & set her body ablaze after Raja Daksh Prajapati (one of the sons of Lord Brahma)tried to humiliate Lord shiva in a Yagya practiced by Daksh. Lord Shiva took her burning body to Himalaya. While going to Himalaya Mata Sati's parts of body started falling on earth. Lord Shiva established Shakti Peeth wherever Sati's body had fallen. At Manikarnika ghat, Mata Sati's Ear's ornament had fallen.

Raja Harish Chandra Ghat in Varanasi
Birth and death in the city of birth and death! A man collects human ashes and dumps them to a side, even as a corpse burns on the pyre, at the edge of the Ganges river in the ancient city of Benaras, known equally for sarees, filth, squalor, re-birth, religion and more... A family stands by as their loved one's corpse burns to ashes, along India's Ganga river. Pigeons fly around, cows amble by, as piles of wood stand nearby, for use in cremation ceremonies along the famous Burning Ghats of Varanasi's river-side, in this ancient city of India.
Yet others wash their clothes in the river, while an old man performs his ablutions (bathes!) in the relatively slow-flowing waters...
Life goes on and by... Another huge stash of wood appears. That many more cremations to take place. Birth and death... All one and the same.
Pandits and pujaris do good business. Indians and foreigners alike (even A-list Hollywood stars, strangely enough) flock to this city's strange magnetism. The filth and squalor of the town, the pollution and waste, the untreated sewage and drain waters, all mingle in the once pristine waters of the Ganga, now sullied with waste. But nothing deters...

A Morning at Tulsi Akhada, Tulsi Ghat, Varanasi
Akhadas are the traditional Indian Gymnasiums. This is where men, young & old, go to build their bodies.
Tulsi akhada located close to Tulsi ghat at Varanasi was set up by none other than the Goswami Tulsi Das, whose house is located not too far from the Tulsi Akhada.
This video takes you through the morning routine at Akhada, where these men exercise & practice wrestling. Do not miss the calm on their faces and the agility of their bodies. Especially look at the older gentleman called Sh Mewa Ram, who cleans, exercises and guides the younger men at Tulsi Akhada. Look at the spirituality with which the wrestlers or pahalwans they are called treat their Akhada.
Look at the variety of exercises they do - almost like worshipping their bodies.
