A Stay At The Bristol Hotel, Bristol Harbourside, England
We recently spent a night at The Bristol Hotel which is on the Harbourside in Bristol.
The Bristol Hotel is part of The Doyle Collection of Hotels.
From the outside it has an austere 60’s appearance but inside it is comfortable and contemporary in a smaller boutique style way with very good customer service.
Also the hotel’s location right on the harbourside is excellent when visiting the city. It’s close to many attractions, bars and restaurants and about a 10 minute walk to the shopping centre.
Next door is an NCP carpark which has reduced parking fees for hotel guests.
We often stay here when visiting Bristol and despite its central location it is very quiet.
We were in Bristol to visit the SS Great Britain whereI was due to climb the rigging, a video of that will be up shortly. #HotelReview

Steering through Bristol Harbour - Passing by Iconic Bristol Heritage - UK
Bristol Harbour is the harbour in the city of Bristol, England. The harbour covers an area of 70 acres (28.3 ha). It has existed since the 13th century but was developed into its current form in the early 19th century by installing lock gates on a tidal stretch of the River Avon in the centre of the city and providing a tidal by-pass for the river. It is often called the Floating Harbour as the water level remains constant and it is not affected by the state of the tide on the river.
Netham Lock in east Bristol is the upstream limit of the harbour. Beyond the lock is a junction: on one arm the navigable River Avon continues upstream to Bath, and on the other arm is the tidal River Avon. The first 1 mile (1.6 km) of the floating harbour, downstream from Netham Lock to Totterdown Basin, is an artificial canal known as the Feeder Canal, while the tidal River Avon follows its original route. Downstream of Totterdown Basin, the floating harbour occupies the former natural course of the River Avon, whilst the tidal River Avon flows through an artificial channel known as the New Cut. This separation of the floating harbour and the tidal River Avon allows boats in the harbour to remain floating at low tide, reduces currents and silting and prevents flooding.
Between Bristol Temple Meads railway station and Hotwells, the harbour and the River Avon run parallel at a distance of no more than 0.65 miles (1.0 km) apart. Downstream of Bristol Temple Meads railway station, the floating harbour meanders through Bristol city centre, Canon's Marsh and Hotwells. At Hotwells, the floating harbour rejoins the tidal River Avon, via a series of locks, and flows into the Avon Gorge.
United Kingdom:
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom (UK)[13] or Britain,[note 10] is a sovereign country lying off the north-western coast of the European mainland. The United Kingdom includes the island of Great Britain, the north-eastern part of the island of Ireland and many smaller islands.[14] Northern Ireland is the only part of the United Kingdom that shares a land border with another sovereign state—the Republic of Ireland. Apart from this land border, the United Kingdom is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with the North Sea to its east, the English Channel to its south and the Celtic Sea to its south-south-west, giving it the 12th-longest coastline in the world. The Irish Sea lies between Great Britain and Ireland. With an area of 242,500 square kilometres (93,600 sq mi), the United Kingdom is the 78th-largest sovereign state in the world. It is also the 21st-most populous country, with an estimated 66.0 million inhabitants in 2017....
United States of America:
The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions.[fn 6] At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2), the United States is the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area[fn 7] and just fractionally smaller than the entire continent of Europe's 3.9 million square miles. With a population of over 325 million people, the U.S. is the third-most populous country. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city by population is New York City. Forty-eight states and the capital's federal district are contiguous in North America between Canada and Mexico. The State of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The State of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean. The U.S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The extremely diverse geography, climate, and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.[19]....

Bristol Harbour (Bristol City Docks), once the original Port of Bristol is now a tourist attraction, ideal for a great day out for the whole family sightseeing in Bristol; the attractions in the Bristol Docks being the famous SS Great Britain built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in the 19th century and ‘The Matthew’, a faithful replica of the sailing ship used by John Cabot who sailed from Bristol in 1497 to discover Newfoundland in Canada.
Also, featured in this video, right at the end, is a rather strange looking sidecar to a motorcycle, upcycled from an old bath, complete with shower, taps and a sink.

It's the start of another adventure for Imo and Izzy. We start by heading for Bristol Temple Meads Rail Station and take a leisurely stroll along the beautiful and fascinating Bristol Harbour Waterfront. There's lots to see, including Imo's favourite crane!
This is one of those vlogs that got split into two as it was such a long day with so much to see. There will be a subsequent vlog all about our experience in the science museum - We The Curious (formerly knows as @Bristol). Look out for that one!
We had a fantastic day. Thank you so much for joining us.

I'm Imo and she's Izzy. We love getting out and about and exploring South Wales and beyond.
We're a home-schooling/home-educating family of two based in the UK dealing with the daily challenges of managing Izzy's severe, chronic eczema and her education. Our resourcefulness is tested on a daily basis but we'd love to share our little triumphs and discoveries with you as we go along.
I will always write closed captions in UK English for my vlogs, not only to make them more accessible in general but also to create a useful resource for advanced learners of the English language who may enjoy regular bursts of pseudo-immersion in English in a narrative context with the additional benefit of corresponding on-screen text.
These videos will not generally feature background music making them extra suitable for people who aren't keen on pop music! x

Bristol is a city straddling the River Avon in the southwest of England with a prosperous maritime history. Its former city-centre port is now a cultural hub, the Harbourside, where the M Shed museum explores local social and industrial heritage. The harbour's 19th-century warehouses now contain restaurants, shops and cultural institutions such as contemporary art gallery The Arnolfini.
Bristol was a starting place for early voyages of exploration to the New World. On a ship out of Bristol in 1497 John Cabot, a Venetian, became the first European since the Vikings to land on mainland North America. In 1499 William Weston, a Bristol merchant, was the first Englishman to lead an exploration to North America. At the height of the Bristol slave trade, from 1700 to 1807, more than 2,000 slave ships carried an estimated 500,000 people from Africa to slavery in the Americas. The Port of Bristol has since moved from Bristol Harbour in the city centre to the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth and Royal Portbury Dock.
Bristol's modern economy is built on the creative media, electronics and aerospace industries, and the city-centre docks have been redeveloped as centres of heritage and culture. The city has the largest circulating community currency in the U.K.- the Bristol pound, which is pegged to the Pound sterling. The city has two universities, the University of the West of England and the University of Bristol and a variety of artistic and sporting organisations and venues including the Royal West of England Academy, the Arnolfini, Spike Island, Ashton Gate and the Memorial Stadium. It is connected to London and other major UK cities by road, rail, sea and air by the M5 and M4 (which connect to the city centre by the Portway and M32), Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway mainline rail stations, and Bristol Airport.
One of the UK's most popular tourist destinations, Bristol was selected in 2009 as one of the world's top ten cities by international travel publishers Dorling Kindersley in their Eyewitness series of travel guides. The Sunday Times named it as the best city in Britain in which to live in 2014 and 2017, and Bristol also won the EU's European Green Capital Award in 2015.

Once a busy dock where sailors and merchants would trade goods and set sail for voyages of discovery, Bristol's Harbourside is now an attractive, modern development filled with restaurants, bars, shops and hotels.
The area is alive with the buzz of Sunday markets, waterside restaurants and bars and a whole host of sports and activities including yachting, paddle boarding, cycling and rowing. Walking in BRISTOL / UK ????????- 4K 60fps (UHD)
Bristol in the southwest of England known for its maritime history. The city was a starting place for early voyages of exploration to the New World.
On this tour we explore nicely walkable centre. We start at the St James' Priory which is near the Bristol Coach Station. Quickly we go to the shopping area Broadmead where we check several shopping streets and also The Bearpit city park.
We head south to the Castle Park and cross the Castle bridge and get back to the old city. There it's a bit quieter this afternoon as most of the action happens at the former city-centre port, the Harbourside. The old harbour's warehouses now contain restaurants, shops.
The riverside stroll continues for a while. We follow the feeder canal and the River Avon. It's a relaxing weekend atmosphere with people and families walking around. We enjoy the path for a little while longer, pass the Brunel's SS Great Britain and finish our tour near the Bristol Marina and rowing club.
Note: I missed catching Banksy's The Girl With Pearl Earring on video on a wall near the marina though took a photo after when walking back. It's coming sometime to the website. A second tour walking back from Millenium square will be on the channel at some point

Visiting Bristol? - We Try The Latest VILLAGE HOTEL Bristol, UK
The Village Hotel Bristol opened in December 2018 in Filton which is near Cribbs Causeway shopping mall and a short drive from Bristol city centre.
The hotel is moderately priced and is a popular choice for business customers in the week and visitors to the South West on the weekend. The hotel features a really big and well-equipped gym and pool which is popular with locals. You can see the big advert for the gym on the front of the striking black Village Hotel building.
I managed to film some of the gym but unfortunately, there were people in the pool so I couldn’t really film that area.
The hotel features a big open plan bar/restaurant with some quirky artwork and of course, it is Bristol, so it does have some Banksy. The lobby also has a Starbucks.
We stayed in a Club Room which is the same size as the standard rooms but features Sky TV and a Dyson hairdryer. The rooms are full of tech with lots of USB plugs, Chromecast and Amazon Echo.
One of the quirky things is the ‘see through’ bathroom which turns opaque at a touch of a button (apart from the door). This may not be the best if you have to share a room with someone you don’t know that well.
The hotel is close to the M32 and the M4 M5 junction, Filton was where the
Concorde was built and the hotel is close to the big aerospace companies which include BAE Systems, Rolls Royce and Airbus.
I went into Bristol city centre on the train which only takes 14 minutes. The nearest station is a 10-minute walk away (Patchway), there is only a train every hour so check the timetables.
* We stayed at the Village Hotel as part of a press trip, Mel was attending the Bristol Fashion Week event at the Cribbs Causeway Mall. Somehow, I (Mr W) wasn’t invited to the fashion event despite being a style icon!
