Brookings Oregon Coast Part 3 | Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor
In this video I share part 3 of our RV trip to the southern Oregon coast.
The first day we arrived to Oregon we stopped by Harris State beach, had lunch and headed north to drive thru the Samuel H Boardman State Scenic Corridor, that is a stretch of Highway 101 that has amazing view points that we had to stop and explore. First time admiring the rugged Oregon Coast
We decided to explore the southern Oregon coast for our first official day trip as a family in our new state. Our first stop was Harris Beach State Park in Brookings. After that, we stopped at Cape Sebastian near Gold Beach and found a trail to hike. It was a fun day!

Driving Through Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, OR
Driving through along the Oregon coast on the Oregon Coast Highway (101).
The footage starts at Winchester Bay along Silver Creek and goes through Umpqua Lighthouse State Park. It finishes at WIlliam M. Tugman State Park. Look carefully to the right where Clear Lake can be seen.
This was filmed using the Garmin Dash Cam 20 in 1080p on May 25, 2015.

Brookings, Oregon on U.S. Highway 101
On September 9, 1942, Mount Emily, near Brookings, became the first site in the continental United States to suffer aerial bombardment in wartime. A Japanese floatplane piloted by Nobuo Fujita launched from submarine I-25 was loaded with incendiary bombs and sent to start massive fires in the dense forests of the Pacific Northwest. The attack caused only minor damage. Fujita would be invited back to Brookings in 1962 and he presented the town his family's 400-year-old samurai sword in friendship after the Japanese government was given assurances that he would not be tried as a war criminal. Brookings made him an honorary citizen several days before his death in 1997. (Note that I have the age of his family's samurai sword wrong)
