Hotel Review: Mercure Koblenz, Rhineland Palatinate, Germany - August 2014
I stayed at the Mercure Koblenz on a recent visit to the Rhine Gorge. I paid 220 Euro for two people to stay three nights (room only) with booking.com.
I found the hotel, to be of a good standard, the room was very comfortable, and the bed was fantastic. The hotel had a good bar, it was not cheap but was pretty much as expected. It was well located for the Rhine and Deutsches Eck. The main negtive is the price of the breakfast, which was far too expensive at 17 Euro per person per day, so we didn't have it.

Hotel Review: Village Urban Resort, Warrington, Cheshire, England - August 2015
I stayed at the Village Urban Resort in Warrington for two nights in August 2015, two of us stayed in a double room with breakfast for a price of £64.50 per night, I booked with booking.com.
The hotel is a short distance from the town centre. It is walkable from Warrington Central railway station, but we took a taxi for £5.00 as we had luggage.
The hotel layout is almost an identikit of my local Village Hotel in Headingley, although the Warrington one seemed a bit smaller and more compact. The colour scheme is dark - too dark. Whoever came up with this did not appreciate how dingy it makes the corridors and rooms appear. This is something which has been rolled out throughout the Village branded hotels, and it seems like a mistake to me.
We were in room 101, to be completely honest I was disappointed with it. It wasn't very big, it was very dark, the window was small and the view was of the air conditioning units (I asked for a room on a high floor with a view, but didn't get it). To make matters worse the noise from the ground floor function room was easily audible in the bedroom. Unfortunately my experience of staying in this small, dark, stuffy room has put me off of stopping in any other Village hotels in future.
The breakfast buffet food was tasty, but the restaurant kept running out of items, first no bacon, then no sausages, then no margarine...it became a bit of a joke.
I ddn't eat in the restaurant at night, I ate in the bar. The food was OK, standard bar food burger. The drinks prices were quite reasonable, but the bar service was slow, at one time there was only one member of staff serving with a large crowd of people waiting.
On another occasion there was a drunk at the bar, speaking aggressively towards the staff and swearing loudly. To be fair to the staff they handled him well and calmed him down.
We came to the hotel primarily for the swimming pool and spa facilities, sadly all day Saturday of our stay it was absolutely rammed with kids. Not what we came for. The pool was huge, but it just seemed to be like a public baths, rather than a 'resort' hotel pool.
Sadly I have to say that I was disappointed with my stay at this hotel. Anyone who watches my films or reads my reviews regularly will know that I'm usually quite positive and objective, but the small, dark, noisy room, patchy breakfast buffet and crowded swimming pool have put me off staying at this hotel again. £64.50 per night was good value for a spa hotel with breakfast, but there's more to the experience than price alone. Sorry Village Warrington, but I doubt that I'll be back.
This film features views of the hotel front, reception, Starbucks, bar, restaurant, breakfast buffet, swimming pool and bedroom.

Review: InterCity Hotel Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany - 5th December, 2014
I stayed at the InterCity hotel on a recent visit to Magdeburg. I needed to be close to the railway station, and this was a perfect hotel for me to stay in. The room was fairly basic, but it was warm and comfortable, and had a view across the railway lines behind the hotel.
Breakfast was the usual InterCity buffet, and was very good, although the breakfast room was extremely busy, which wasn't particularly comfortable, and I was unable to film the buffet due to the number of people having breakfast.
The film features exterior views of the hotel, both from the railway station, and in front of the hotel, as well as views of the entrance, bar, restaurant and a detailed room inspection.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to other visitors to Magdeburg, particularly to those who need to be near the station.

Hotel Review: InterCityHotel, Nürnberg (Nuremberg), Bavaria, Germany - May 2016
Hotel Review: InterCityHotel, Nürnberg (Nuremberg), Bavaria, Germany - May 2016.
I stayed at the Intercity Hotel, Nuremberg in May, 2016, I stayed 1 night, and paid 68 Euro 35 Cents on a room only basis. The hotel is conveniently located a 70 metre walk from Nuremberg main railway station (hauptbahnhof). I stayed there as I had a late afternoon flight into Nuremberg and an early train to catch the next day.
The hotel was a basic InterCityHotel, it had all of the standard amenities expected in such an establishment. My night there was pleasant, and I have no complaints whatsoever. I would certainly consider staying there again.
This film features the following: exterior shots of the hotel, the reception, lift / elevator, a detailed room inspection of room 508, a double room (which overlooked the railway line at the back of the hotel), Lobby, Restaurant and Bar.

Konstantin Graf v.
WAS

Here finally also a second videoclip from Schlagabtausch (a.k.a. Siffköpf) live at Gunzendorf last Friday (25th of April 2014). There they played together with Asphalt & Freibier aus Franken. Schlagabtausch are an Oi Punk band from Ebern near Bamberg in Upperfranconia region (South Germany). Ebern is of course Lower Franconia already :) Schlagabtausch had earlier the name Siffköpf (= Drunken Heads (very free translation)), but they changed their name to Schlagabtausch in February 2014. This song here has the name Siffgeil (Horny for drinking ?). It was a old Siffköpf classic. But Schlagabtausch changed the lyrics of this song a little extra for this gig :)

SUMMARY
=======
Austin is the capital of the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of Travis County, with portions extending into Hays and Williamson counties. It is the 11th-most populous city in the United States and the 4th-most populous city in Texas. It is also the fastest growing large city in the United States, the second most populous state capital after Phoenix, Arizona, and the southernmost state capital in the contiguous United States. As of the U.S. Census Bureau's August 1, 2018 estimate, Austin had a population of 967,629 up from 790,491 at the 2010 census. The city is the cultural and economic center of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan statistical area, which had an estimated population of 2,056,405 as of July 1, 2016. Located in Central Texas within the greater Texas Hill Country, it is home to numerous lakes, rivers, and waterways, including Lady Bird Lake and Lake Travis on the Colorado River, Barton Springs, McKinney Falls, and Lake Walter E. Long.
In the 1830s, pioneers began to settle the area in central Austin along the Colorado River. In 1839, the site was chosen to replace Houston as the capital of the Republic of Texas and was incorporated under the name Waterloo. Shortly afterward, the name was changed to Austin in honor of Stephen F. Austin, the Father of Texas and the republic's first secretary of state. The city grew throughout the 19th century and became a center for government and education with the construction of the Texas State Capitol and the University of Texas at Austin. After a severe lull in economic growth from the Great Depression, Austin resumed its steady development, and by the 1990s it emerged as a center for technology and business. A number of Fortune 500 companies have headquarters or regional offices in Austin including, 3M, Amazon.com, Apple Inc., Cisco, eBay, General Motors, Google, IBM, Intel, Oracle Corporation, Paypal, Texas Instruments, and Whole Foods Market. Dell's worldwide headquarters is located in nearby Round Rock, a suburb of Austin.
Residents of Austin are known as Austinites. They include a diverse mix of government employees, college students, musicians, high-tech workers, blue-collar workers, and a vibrant LGBT community. The city's official slogan promotes Austin as The Live Music Capital of the World, a reference to the city's many musicians and live music venues, as well as the long-running PBS TV concert series Austin City Limits. The city also adopted Silicon Hills as a nickname in the 1990s due to a rapid influx of technology and development companies. In recent years, some Austinites have adopted the unofficial slogan Keep Austin Weird, which refers to the desire to protect small, unique, and local businesses from being overrun by large corporations. In the late 19th century, Austin was known as the City of the Violet Crown, because of the colorful glow of light across the hills just after sunset. Even today, many Austin businesses use the term Violet Crown in their name. Austin is known as a clean-air city for its stringent no-smoking ordinances that apply to all public places and buildings, including restaurants and bars.U.S. News & World Report named Austin the #1 place to live in the U.S. for 2017 and 2018. In 2016, Forbes ranked Austin #1 on its Cities of the Future list, then in 2017 placed the city at that same position on its list for the Next Biggest Boom Town in the U.S. Also in 2017, Forbes awarded the South River City neighborhood of Austin its #2 ranking for Best Cities and Neighborhoods for Millennials. WalletHub named Austin the #6 best place in the country to live for 2017. The FBI ranked Austin as the #2 safest major city in the U.S. for 2012.
