Bruges City Guide - Travel Belgium Travel Video Transcript:
Well, Hello and welcome to Brugge! We are excited to explore the city. We just got here in the afternoon. The light is perfect, the day is beautiful and we're going to go explore and see what the city is all about.
Once in Bruges we set off to see the Old Town. We watched horse-drawn carriages roll down the square, admired the buildings, and visited chocolate shops because if there's one thing you have to do in Belgium, it's sample all their delicious chocolate.
So good morning. It is the start of day 2 here in Bruges, so we're going to continue sightseeing. I think the first order of business is to try and find a boat so we can take a little tour down the canals and maybe after that we'll start thinking about food. I know there is a few Belgian dishes that we're itching to try so let's get started with the day.
We started off the morning with a cruise down the canals. Like many cities in Europe, Bruges too has earned the nickname 'The Venice of the North' due to the numerous waterways that run through the city. It was a great way to get a closer look at the city, and it didn't hurt that we had swans to keep us company.
So we have a very exciting taste test coming up today. We are in Bruges, Belgium and that means we have to try Belgian fries. Not French fries. So let's get a look at that and then I'm going to give you a bit of the history behind it.
So there is a bit of a heated debate about whether fries or French fries or Belgian fries. Where exactly did they originate? So our tour guide yesterday was telling us that apparently during World War I there were a lot of British and American soldiers who were between Belgium and France and sometimes they didn't know what country they were in. All they knew is that they could hear French being spoken. So they assumed we must be in France and these must be French Fries.
So it is time for our last taste test here in Belgium, so we stopped by a chocolate shop to pick up some hand made chocolate. And the Belgians actually used to have a colony in Africa, so that meant cocoa beans, and plenty of time to perfect the art of chocolate making. So that means today they are one of the leading experts in chocolate production, so today is a chocolate taste test.
Waffles! Waffles! We are having waffles!
Well, considering today is our last full day in Belgium we couldn't leave the country without trying at least one Belgian waffle.
And to prove its authenticity it even has a Belgian flag. Why don't you take out that flag and wave it. Come on, go wave it.
Wave the flag?
Wave that flag.
Belgian waffles, dun da da dun da da.
Belgian waffles. dun da da dun dah.
So the funny thing about Belgian waffles is that there is no such thing as Belgian waffles in Belgium.
Sure, in North America we call them Belgium waffles but here they are just regular old waffles.
And that is only because we have crappy waffles. Yes, we have to put them in the toaster. We usually buy them from the frozen section in Canada.
But anyway, what sets these waffles apart is that they are a lot larger, a lot fluffier and the squares are a lot bigger than your average waffles that you buy from the frozen section back in North America. So let's dig in before this starts melting.
This is part of our Travel in Belgium video series showcasing Belgian food, Belgian culture and Belgian cuisine.

MOST CHARMING CITY IN EUROPE? (BRUGES, BELGIUM TOUR) | Eileen Aldis
Bruges, Belgium might just be the most charming city in Europe. If you closed your eyes and imagined a picturesque, fairytale, travel-back-in-time, absolutely breath-taking European city I'd guess that Bruges is pretty close to what's in your head. It's what European vacation dreams are made of. A veritable time capsule of medieval architecture, It's easy to understand why it's a UNESCO World Heritage City. It is rare to see so many streets of buildings all so well preserved. Walking around is like being transported back in time and history here is on another level. This town hall? It was the seat of government for more than six hundred years. This old hospital? It's been a hospital since the 1100s (and only stopped in the 1970s). The reason why Bruges is so well preserved has a twist: the city was too poor to renovate and rebuild. Bruges has experienced periods of great wealth, great poverty, and great wealth. During the down times, citizens didn't have the cash to make 'improvements' to their houses and to this scarcity we owe a great deal! Ironically, the current citizens of Bruges benefit from their forebears' inability to knock things down and rebuild. Bruges is now a huge draw for tourists from around the world who flock to see the same buildings people were too poor to change. Huzzah! This is why I love history!
Our day in Bruges started at the Folklore Museum. It's only 4 Euro and you can get a nice overview of life in the city in the 19th and 20th centuries. Don't forget to look for the black cat who lives there. He's rare to see and is one of a long line of black cats who call the museum home. We then walked (you can walk everywhere) to the Burg Square where you'll find the Stadhuis (town hall) and a little further on is the Grote Markt. The latter is the main square where you'll find see the Belfry (Belfort) and dozens of tourists. Bruges is known for two things: an abundance of beauty and an abundance of tourists seeking it. But no one cares because you're so stunned at the charming city around you. We walked on to the Church of Our Lady where the altar piece is a Michelangelo sculpture of the Madonna and Child. Made of Carrara marble, it's been stolen twice and is now safe again to view at the church. Across the street is Sint-Janshospitaal - the one that was a hospital from the 1100s to the 1970s. Now you'll find religious art and - my favourite - examples of old ambulances. A visit here makes you really appreciate modern medicine. It started to rain and we were getting hungry so we headed to the Friet Museum (Fry Museum). How could we visit Belgium without doing a deep dive into the history of fries?! We wanted to find out why so many people mistakenly call them 'French fries' - we also wanted to eat fries. Check and check. It stopped raining so we ended the Bruges tour by boarding a river cruise because there are parts of the city only visible from the water. I'd definitely recommend a boat ride if you're visiting Bruges - it's relaxing and offers a unique perspective not seen by other means. We absolutely loved visiting Bruges and hope you enjoyed this visit to the jewel of Belgium.

For our two year wedding anniversary, my husband and I decided to travel around Europe for two weeks! One of his friends recommended that we check out the fairytale town of Bruges in Belgium for a couple of days, so we decided to take the train from Paris to Brussels and then another train to Bruges. We actually got lost the first day (so this vlog is on the shorter side since I didn't start vlogging until we were at our hotel late the first night) and I 100% forgot to do a hotel room tour since I was too excited to explore outside with the short amount of time we had, but I hope you still enjoy this travel vlog of my time in Bruges! xx Audrie

// ABOUT ME //
A little bit about me - I'm a content creator on Instagram, YouTube, and on my blog at AudrieStorme.com living in Orange County, California (originally from the San Francisco Bay Area). I started posting outfit of the day (OOTD) photos on Instagram about two years ago when I was living in Dallas, Texas for work. I loved taking photos and posting on Instagram so much that I decided to expand and try out YouTube and blogging as well.
When I was living in the city, my personal style was a bit more streetwear 90's grunge, but now that I live in Southern California and closer to the ocean, my style has become a lot more cozy and comfortable with a lot of bohemian influences.
If I had to describe my fashion sense on my blog, Instagram aesthetic, and YouTube editing style now, I'd probably describe it as modern bohemian with an edge, since I tend to wear and do things that might be considered unconventional to others. I'm not sure if that is true, but since I've moved back to California, I just find that I gravitate to what is easiest and effortless for me while living near the beach where it always feels like summer.
Thank you so much for stopping by my YouTube channel and I hope that you enjoy what you'll find here! I love fashion, beauty (especially hair styling and bohemian braids), DIY projects and how to videos, making travel diaries of all the places that I'm lucky enough to visit, and sharing my (for lack of a better term) modern bohemian lifestyle. If you'd like to see more, please feel free to subscribe to my channel. Hope to see you in the comments below!

Audrie

Brussels & Bruges, Belgium Trip
Brussels & Bruges, Belgium Trip
????Hello Spark Fam! We went on a quick two day trip to Brussels and Brugge, Belgium. It was ahmazing to see and walk the streets of this Mideavel town. The food, the people and the architect was just stunning! My favorite part of the trip was seeing the Church of the Holy Blood and of course eating belgium fries with mayo.
We started our trip by saying goodbye to Amsterdam, Netherlands and traveled through open fields, crisscorssed with canals and windmills to Brussels, the capital of Belgium. In Brussels wee saw the Heysel Stadium and the Atomium, the gigantic structure that still remains from the 1958 World Expo. We proceeded to drive by the Palace of Justice, Opera House, Royal Palace, Grand Place. Because it was raining so hard and the wind was blowing not to mention it was cold; we did not see the famous Mannekin Pis fountain (the peeing boy statue); instead we opted for a nice cozy, warm dry restaurant! We then continued on to the city of Bruges which is also known as the “Venice of the North,” and home to Europe’s best-preserved medieval buildings! We had a fabulous dinner at one of the oldest resturants in Bruges and our tour group surprised us with a wedding gift!:-)
In Bruges we went to the Lake of Love (Minnewater) and the Beguinage Convent. We also walked along the picturesque cobbled lanes of the city’s medieval district to Our Lady’s Church, which housed the famous Madonna statue by Michelangelo. We also walked through Market Square and Belfry and the Town Hall Square and got to visit the Chapel of the Holy Blood. I totally understand now why Bruges is called a fairy-tale town and considered one of Europe’s most beautiful cities! I would do this trip again, only this time, I will buy one of those cute Artisan Teddy Bears!

**Hello it’s been a while since my last upload! I’ve been working on this Bruges vlog and finally able to finish after coming back from our getaway!**
::Bruges::
We had 4 day stay in Belgium and we decided to stay in Brussels and do day visits in Bruges and Ghent! Bruges was an hour away from Brussels… Ghent was about 2 hours away from Brussels via train. Bruges is gorgeous! It’s actually prettier than Brussels! Very medieval feel and being here felt like being in a city back in medieval ages. There are lots of restaurants in Bruges as well. They even have Pizza Hut that's all you can eat pizza! If you have time you must check this city out and try their Belgian waffle by the plaza! It’s a must!
Ticket information:
We booked our ticket at Eurostar (link below)
Now if you plan to visit Brussels and other cities in Belgium via train select “Any Belgian station via Brussels” as your final destination this way you get a 24 hour (one time) FREE ticket to ANY Belgian station. Save your printed ticket coz you will need to show this when inside the train. Then you just need to buy a one way ticket back to wherever city you’re staying at. If you’re staying in Bruges you can do Any Belgian station via Bruges.
**If wondering where we stayed at in Belgium. Click the link below! Room tour vlog is in my channel. Or click the other link as well!**
::Next project::
Punta Cana room tour!
~I mostly do vlogs with Odin wherever we go just to remember the things we did and also when he's old enough he can go back and watch himself in each place we've been to! As a mom I love seeing photos of me when I was younger. I want Odin to be able to look back too, not just through photos but videos as well. =) Plus I love seeing his milestones and how much he’ve grown in all of our videos! If you watch our early videos he was still a baby (10months). He’d either be in stroller, ergo baby or carried. No words yet but just gibberish talks and laughter. Now in our recent videos, he’s already running walking, pushing his stroller, and talking!~

Bruges Belgium Tourist Attractions
Bruges Belgium is a beautiful Medieval city that is sometimes called the Venice of the North. This short film provides a quick overview of its beautiful canals, historic buildings, cathedrals and attractive city squares. Bruges (or Brugge in Flemish) was once the second largest city in Europe, after London. It was a major player in the cloth trade with Britain and was very wealthy during its golden age. Today, Bruges is a popular tourist destination for Europeans and viisitors from around the world.
