The Jews who were citizens of Finland, of course were participating in the war as soldiers and officers in the Finnish army. This is of course extremely peculiar and unfathomable footnote actually to World War II. That you had German soldiers and Jewish soldiers basically fighting the same enemy. Not for the same goals, but for tactical reasons fighting the same enemy.

STORYLINE:
In 1941, Harry Matso was an 18-year old private in the Finnish army, mobilised on the Eastern Front to fight against Soviet forces.
Matso was one of around 300 Finnish Jews who fought alongside Nazi German troops against the Soviet Union.
I was an ordinary soldier, says Matso, who celebrated his 88th birthday just last week. With a rifle, nothing else. No badge, no corporal, no sergeant, no colonel, nothing. Only a soldier.
Between 1939 and 1944, Finland fought two wars against the Soviet Union.
During the short Winter War of 1939-1940, a small Finnish force succeeded in defeating a much larger Soviet invasion.
In what the Finns call the Continuation War of 1941-1944, they were allied with Nazi Germany.

Thousands march through Helsinki to protest Putin-Trump summit
(15 Jul 2018) Thousands of people gathered in Helsinki on Sunday to protest against the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Finnish capital.
The peaceful and non-partisan protest was organised by activists and a network of civil society organisations, including Amnesty International.
The summit between Trump and Putin will be held on Monday at the 19th century Presidential Palace in Helsinki, one of the Finnish president's official residences.
Trump and first lady Melania Trump are scheduled to start the day by joining Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and his wife, Jenni Haukio, for breakfast at Mantyniemi, another presidential residence in Helsinki where the couple lives most of the time.
Niinisto also will hold a bilateral meeting with Putin.
Putin and Trump have met twice before on the sidelines of international meetings.
The Helsinki summit will be their first official stand-alone meeting.

For readers of CanKiwi2's Alternative Winter War - Punainen myrsky, valkoinen kuolema (Red Storm, White Death) on
These video clips are, or will be, included on both my website on Finland as a travel destination and as informational content and in an alternative history of the 1939-40 Russo-Finnish Winter War that I'm writing online.
And if you're interested in travelling to Finland, do visit my website ( the content of which is being updated weekly).
And just a note: Youtube members come, Youtube members go - and when they go the clips they have posted disappear, which is the reason most of these are copied from other users channels. If I have inadvertently missed asking you for permission to copy your clip and post it on my channel, please let me know and I will publicly issue an abject and humble apology. And remove if you ask. Aside from that, Enjoy!
Time Off: Jews of Finland
As Finland celebrates its 100th birthday, we are visiting our friends at the Finnish Jewish community. We have only one synagogue, so we don't have the situation where you have a synagogue which you don't want to go, our local guide tells us. And there's more.
Antisemitism at a glance: Finland
The Israeli embassy in Finland has been vandalized at least 15 times over the last two years. And in November 2019, on the anniversary of Kristallnacht, antisemitic messages appeared in front of the synagogue in Helsinki. Finland is seeing an uptick of antisemitic incidents. #EnoughIsEnough
Helsinki (Capital of Finland)
Me and my friends Rizwan Arshid and Waqas Qazi went to Helsinki capital of Finland from stockholm (Sweden) in the winter and the ship traveled through the freeze Baltic sea.

Finnish Girls, Helsinki
In 2011 Nick was taking a Baltic Cruise. The cruise was great cause in 7 days ship visited 6 countries: Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Russia, and Germany. Finnish girls in Helsinki left an unforgettable impression! They are rated 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of attractiveness – need I say more? Finnish girls are cute; Finnish girls are easy going and fun! Here is a slideshow for you to see. Enjoy it!

The Jewish World: Finland
Finland is home to some 1,500 Jews whose ancestors were mostly traders and merchants who came from other parts of Europe. Jewish life in the country continues and recently the community appointed its first Finnish-speaking chief rabbi. Mazel tov!
