The Scranton Iron Furnaces is a historic site that preserves the heritage of iron making in the U.S. State of Pennsylvania and is located in Scranton, near the Steamtown National Historic Site. It protects the remains of four stone blast furnaces which were built between 1848 and 1857. Iron production on the site was started by Scranton, Grant & Company in 1840. Later, the furnaces were operated by the Lackawanna Iron & Coal Company. In 1847, iron rails for the Erie Railroad were made at the site. In 1865, Scranton, Grant & Company had the largest iron production capacity in the United States. In 1875, steel production started at the site. In 1880, the furnaces produced 125,000 tons of pig iron, one of the main uses of which was in the making of t-rails. The plant was closed in 1902, when production was shifted to Lackawanna, New York.
The site has been managed by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission since 1971 and is part of the Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum complex. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, as the Lackawanna Iron and Coal Company Furnace

Joe Biden's LIES About Involvement In Civil Rights Movement
Joe Biden is lying about his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in comment section below.
MORE TYT:
Read more here:
In 1987, when Joe Biden was running for President for the very first time, his campaign got swallowed up in a swarm of lies that Joe Biden told about himself all over the country. First, Biden was caught plagiarizing a famous speech from British Labour Party Leader Neil Kinnock - including parts of the speech that came straight from Kinnock’s personal life that simply were not true for Joe Biden. Then, he plagiarized yet another speech from the late Robert Kennedy and another from JFK and another from Hubert Humphrey. You have to understand - this was pre-Internet, pre-social media, and something in Joe Biden’s mind made him think he could get away with it. He didn’t. And it ultimately tanked his campaign.

I walked the Steel Valley trail after returning to Pitt from NY. It was humid, and I was having trouble breathing following my heart attack. My goal was to reach the junction where Norfolk Southern Stack and Autorack trains cross the Monongahela. Those types of trains will not clear the former Pennsylvania Railroad train shed in downtown Pittsburgh.
I considered turning around and going back to the former US Steel Homestead grounds where there is a memorial of types to the strike that occurred there along with a few buildings. Otherwise the site has been cleaned and a mall put in place there. CSX also Crosses the Mon there.
I did not know about this steel plant nor the locks that the Army Corp of Engineers run here.
This area is actually a rest area on the trail, and it was impossible to really shoot the NS which was below me. Trees dominate the area of the trail. So this is the best I could shoot. There was a lot of action over at the plant, and walking further South I would discover the CP 16 Junction I was looking for in Duquesne along with the Union Railroad which US steel owns I understand.

Abandoned, Vacant, and Re-purposed places in the Northeast
Here are the stories of these places:
Dunkirk Generating Station: Closed at the end of 2015
Lake Street Bridge: Closed in 2011 due to structural deficiencies, but is going to reopen in the future to pedestrians and cyclists once repairs occur.
St. Cabrini Novitiate: Directly behind the St. Cabrini nursing home, built in the early 1900's.
Steel Point: This vacant lot has plans to be redeveloped in the future.
Centralia: Near-ghost town in Columbia County, PA, due to an underground mine fire directly underneath the borough. The fire started in 1962, and after several failed attempts to extinguish it, most residents were moved out, and most buildings were razed in 1992.
Graffiti Highway: One road leading into Centralia was damaged by the mine fire, and the state eventually built another road around it, and stopped repairing it.
Flight 93 National Memorial: One of the four hijacked flights from September 11th, 2001 landed here. The visitor center opened in 2015.
Water Tower: This is the last remaining building/structure from the Anaconda Wire and Cable Company factory on the waterfront in Hastings-on-Hudson. There are plans to redevelop the area in the future, and possibly with keeping the water tower.
Wilmington Riverwalk: Old cranes were placed on the Riverwalk at Dravo Plaza.
Hermit Ruins: Irvington Hermit Johann Stolting built small buildings in the Irvington Woods in the 1880's. Many ruins, as well as his grave, are still there.
GM Plant: The land between Kingsland Point and downtown Sleepy Hollow was filled in for a General Motors plant, which closed in the 1990's. It is currently being redeveloped.
Old Croton Aqueduct: The first aqueduct carrying water from the Croton River to New York City was built in 1837 and operated until 1955, when a new aqueduct rendered it obsolete.
Asbury Park Casino: The building fell into ruins, and the carousel was moved out in the 1980's. It is still being fixed up.
Long Point: Former fishing town. All residents had moved out by the end of the 1950's, by sailing their houses across the harbor into downtown Provincetown. The lighthouse remains, but the area is only used as a beach.
Ellis Island: Major US immigration station from 1892 to 1964. Became a museum in 1990. A 1998 Supreme Court ruling determined that most of the island is officially in New Jersey.
Godfrey Windmill: Built in 1797, but was mostly shut down in the early 1900's. Repaired several times, and is now part of Chase Park in Chatham.
Knobley Tunnel: Former railway tunnel, reopened in 2011 to pedestrian and cyclist traffic.
SteelStacks: Former home of Bethlehem Steel, which closed in 2003. It has been transformed into a museum.

SUMMARY
=======
Philadelphia, often called Philly, is the largest city in the U.S. state and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the sixth-most populous U.S. city, with a 2017 census-estimated population of 1,580,863. Since 1854, the city has been coterminous with Philadelphia County, the most populous county in Pennsylvania and the urban core of the eighth-largest U.S. metropolitan statistical area, with over 6 million residents as of 2017. Philadelphia is also the economic and cultural anchor of the greater Delaware Valley, located along the lower Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers, within the Northeast megalopolis. The Delaware Valley's population of 7.2 million ranks it as the eighth-largest combined statistical area in the United States.William Penn, an English Quaker, founded the city in 1682 to serve as capital of the Pennsylvania Colony. Philadelphia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 at the Second Continental Congress, and the Constitution at the Philadelphia Convention of 1787. Several other key events occurred in Philadelphia during the Revolutionary War including the First Continental Congress, the preservation of the Liberty Bell, the Battle of Germantown, and the Siege of Fort Mifflin. Philadelphia was one of the nation's capitals during the revolution, and served as temporary U.S. capital while Washington, D.C., was under construction. In the 19th century, Philadelphia became a major industrial center and a railroad hub. The city grew from an influx of European immigrants, most of whom came from Ireland, Italy and Germany—the three largest reported ancestry groups in the city as of 2015. In the early 20th century, Philadelphia became a prime destination for African Americans during the Great Migration after the Civil War, as well as Puerto Ricans. The city's population doubled from one million to two million people between 1890 and 1950.
The Philadelphia area's many universities and colleges make it a top study destination, as the city has evolved into an educational and economic hub. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Philadelphia area had a gross domestic product of US$431 billion in 2016, the eighth-largest metropolitan economy in the United States. Philadelphia is the center of economic activity in Pennsylvania and is home to five Fortune 1000 companies. The Philadelphia skyline is expanding, with a market of almost 81,900 commercial properties in 2016, including several nationally prominent skyscrapers. Philadelphia has more outdoor sculptures and murals than any other American city. Fairmount Park, when combined with the adjacent Wissahickon Valley Park in the same watershed, is one of the largest contiguous urban park areas in the United States. The city is known for its arts, culture, cuisine, and colonial history, attracting 42 million domestic tourists in 2016 who spent US$6.8 billion, generating an estimated $11 billion in total economic impact in the city and surrounding four counties of Pennsylvania. Philadelphia has also emerged as a biotechnology hub.Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States Marine Corps, and is also the home of many U.S. firsts, including the first library (1731), hospital (1751), medical school (1765), national capital (1774), stock exchange (1790), zoo (1874), and business school (1881). Philadelphia contains 67 National Historic Landmarks and the World Heritage Site of Independence Hall. The city became a member of the Organization of World Heritage Cities in 2015, as the first World Heritage City in the United States. Although Philadelphia is rapidly undergoing gentrification, the city actively maintains mitigation strategies to minimize displacement of homeowners in gentrifying neighborhoods.
