Hesaraghatta Lake is a man made reservoir located 18 km to the north-west of Bengaluru in Karnataka state, India. It is a fresh water lake created in the year 1894 across the Arkavathy River to meet the drinking water needs of the city. Sir K. Seshadri Iyer, the then Dewan of erstwhile Mysore state and the then Chief Engineer of Mysuru, M. C. Hutchins, planned to build the scheme called the “Chamarajendra Water Works” to store a three-years' water supply to the city.

Weekend ride to Hesaraghatta Lake
On a lazy sunday we decided to ride to Hesarghatta lake, which is hardly 20kms to the North of Peenya, Bangalore. The lake is supposed to have spread across 1000+ acres. But the state of the lake was not inspiring at all. But the ride was fantastic. We covered some lovely grasslands and some forests closest to Bangalore. Watch as we spend the entire day in less than 1000 bucks.

Sri Durgambha Devi Temple is situated on the lake-bud of the Hesaraghatta Lake. Sri Durga is the main deity at this temple.
In front of the temple is the Hessarghatta lake, a vast pool of water which once supplied water to Bangalore. Sir K. Seshadri Iyer, the then Dewan of Mysore state and then Chief Engineer of Mysuru, M. C. Hutchins, planned to build the scheme called the “Chamarajendra Water Works” to store a three-years' water supply to the bangalore city
The whole atmosphere is very serene and on a cloudy day with the water lapping at your feet makes it a very calm and enchanting place.
Located about 20 km to the north west of Bangalore, Karnataka, India, Hesaraghatta Lake is a manmade reservoir .It is a fresh water lake created in the year 1894 across the Arkavathy river to meet the drinking water needs of the city.The reservoir is reported to have filled up last in the year 1994 and thereafter the lake's deterioration and drying up started, reducing its reliability as a water supply source .the recent heavy rains in 2017 increased the water level, thereby attracts many visitors.

Hesaraghatta lake. A fresh water container located 30kms north of Bengaluru finally bloomed from bleakness after years, thanks to the monsoon rains that teemed the region profusely in year 2017. The colossal container enchanted by monsoon rains which pummeled the region for almost 2 months in mid of 2017 is lifeline of nearby villages. Enjoy the glimpses from this massive lake shot as an out-of-blue cyclonic storm over the Arabian Sea dissipated. In fact, this lake needs more such vigorous monsoon seasons to swell to its full potential.
