The Most Terrifying B&B on Earth: The Frying Pan Tower Coast Guard Light Station
The Frying Pan Tower is a Coast Guard Light Station located 34 miles off the coast of North Carolina that is being restored with the assistance of people like you! The Frying Pan Tower is located out of sight of land in 50 ft. of clear blue Atlantic waters (lat & lon 33°29′N 77°35′W). It may not boast a spa, fancy dining or swimming pool, but this one-of-a-kind bed and breakfast in the Atlantic Ocean’s hurricane alley has everything guests need when they’re looking for solitude. Despite its remote location, the bed and breakfast has some of the comforts of home, including hot showers, electricity, wifi and a kitchen with stainless steel appliances. A visit to the Frying Pan Tower is an unforgettable experience and a way to truly get away from it all while enjoying the loneliness and endless views of the sea. With no other structure or land in sight, guests feel like they’re in the middle of nowhere as they gaze at the open water and take in spectacular sunrises and sunsets, and stunning displays as stars glitter in the night sky. From $500 a person for two nights (the cost doesn’t include helicopter or boat transfers), there are eight bedrooms (five twin beds and three queen beds) and the accommodation is rustic and basic. Richard Neal, a software engineer from Charlotte, purchased the surplus station when it was auctioned by the US Coast Guard in 2010. In calmer times, guests can admire 360-degree views from a light tower or lower themselves to the ocean’s surface, where they can dive with sharks and turtles, or fish for lobster, black sea bass in waters warmed by the Gulf Stream. With the Gulf Stream close by, we often are pleasantly warm when it's still cold onshore and mild when it's too hot to walk on the sand at the beach so don’t let a great weekend go to waste, come be part of history!

Skydiver Tows Flag Over Oak Island 'The Warrior Ride'.mov
Towing a 33 foot tall and 65 feet long American flag after jumping from a plane high above Oak Island, NC, is Skydiver Jamie R. Lynn. He followed another jumper, John Weldon retired Army Sgt. First Class from Fayetteville, NC. Lynn says his favorite events are any time he can put his training and skills to work honoring the nation's veterans, such as this jump on Saturday, Sept. 29, for 'The Warrior Ride' during an Oak Island Community Sun and Fun bicycle event. One rider who saw the skydivers was Tom Nugent, PO3, who is retired from the US Navy. Through a haze of small arms fire his Navy helicopter was shot out of the night sky during the first Gulf War more than 20 years ago. He describes it as a hard landing from the chopper's 100-foot fall. My helmet had come off, leaving no buffer when my head hit against the aircraft on impact, he said. Being my second combat head injury, it left me to struggle with a spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and Post Traumatic Stress. Since I began four years ago, I have been actively involved in The Warrior Ride events. I feel this has helped me reduce the number of medications I take. Another Oak Island rider was US Navy Operations Specialist Petty Officer First Class Ronald Mayfield. On opening day of the 1996 Sussex County VA hunting season, he was accidentally shot in the head by another hunter. Three pellets became lodged in my brain, he says. I spent 11 years in recovery having to learn how to speak and walk all over again.
Now Mayfield is a mentor for new riders. I am the adaptive sports coordinator for The Warrior Ride--Founders Bob and Debra Racine began their adaptive cycling events in 2005. We believe in this therapy and in the camaraderie of being with peers who have similar experiences, they say. Adaptive cycling uses modified equipment adapted to suit an individual wounded warrior. Events are free to participants and take place throughout the United States. All expenses are paid through donations and grants. Like many returning Vietnam War veterans, Racine says he was mistreated by the public and not respected. I vowed that if there was another war, I would be out on the forefront welcoming home USA returning veterans, Racine says. After a welcome by Oak Island Mayor Betty Wallace, Col. Joseph E. Calisto gave a message honoring the wounded warriors. He is Commander of 596th Transportation Brigade Military Ocean Terminal, Sunny Point. For 10 years, Lynn previously jumped as an honorary member of the Green Beret Parachute Team. Now known as the Special Forces Association Parachute Team, it does drops requested by Army Recruiters. As a senior rigger, Lynn is licensed to pack and repair the main and reserve parachute. Lynn and his wife, Sandy, live in Myrtle Beach, SC. Besides yearly jumping events, such as when the Clemson Tigers honor veterans, the Lynns work with their church, Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church in Garden City, SC.

Cottages were wiped off the beach, the train trestle was damaged and the Carolina Yacht Club had to be completely rebuilt. A few smaller storms hit in the early 1900s but none did extensive damage. The next big hit came from Hurricane Hazel, which made landfall on October 15, 1954 at Holden Beach. This was the third named hurricane to hit the area within 7 weeks and is the only category 4 hurricane to make landfall in North Carolina. The storm headed up the coast devastating Yaupon Beach, Long Beach and Southport before hitting Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach. Hurricane Connie hit the beach in 1955 and caused damaged to Johnnie Mercer’s pier and other houses along the beach. Hurricane Bertha and Hurricane Fran hit within months of each other in 1996, completely wiping out the beaches’ fishing piers and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.[8][9] At 11:15am UTC on September 14, 2018, Hurricane Florence made landfall less than a mile south of Wrightsville Beach as a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 90 mph (150 km/h).

Rare Shark Feeding Frenzy in North Carolina
On Thursday, October 9 at around noon, while at a retreat at Cape Lookout National Seashore off the coast of North Carolina, the leaders of One Harbor Church witnessed a shark feeding frenzy. The men were out fishing for the evening’s dinner when they stumbled across more than 100 sharks attacking a school of blue fish. As seagulls and pelicans joined in on the meal, the men began to cast into the surf, catching fish without the use of bait. For more than five minutes, the sharks were observed swimming in and out of the surf, some of which became beached in the fury. Donnie Griggs, the cameraman who captured the footage, is an avid waterman who spearfishes, dives, swims and surfs at Cape Lookout often. We want it to be clear that Cape Lookout and the surrounding beaches of Eastern North Carolina are extremely safe for swimming. The presence of these sharks and large schools of fish is actually a sign of a very healthy ecosystem.

[AUDIO] Small North Carolina town latest to feel Florence’s fury | FLPTV
Benetta White and David Lloyd slogged through waist-deep water filling their yard to escape Hurricane Florence's latest life-threatening punch to a town in the Carolinas. They were among 100 people rescued with helicopters, boats and high-wheeled military vehicles during a six-hour rescue operation in southeastern North Carolina's Bladen County that lasted into Friday morning. Officials in North and South Carolina warn that the flooding danger is far from over, with South Carolina also ordering more evacuations as rivers rise.
At least 43 people have died since the hurricane slammed into the coast more than a week ago. White and Lloyd, who live in the North Carolina town of Kelly, were given little time Thursday night to evacuate when the Cape Fear River came rushing onto their property. From there they went to the town's fire department, and were taken out of town by an Army truck. It's the second time they've evacuated in a week. The National Guard and U.S. Coast Guard rushed in to help, with aircraft pilots wearing night-vision goggles. The mandatory evacuation issued Thursday for Kelly, population about 800, was the third for the town since the storm began lashing the state more than a week ago.
We were loading up men, women, children, elderly, pets, law enforcement personnel, rescue personnel, said Knutson, describing the situation as chaotic.

Irma: A Storm To Be Reckoned With
BEAUFORT, SC- After three years in Beaufort, I have experienced two hurricanes here...Matthew in October 2016 and now Irma. Waiting on a hurricane is very different in a town surrounded by water. There is so much preparation before hand. The house, pets, and outdoor furniture just to name a few. Boat owners are getting boats to dry storage or hooked up to trailers for evacuation.
Sea island residents of Fripp, Hunting, Harbor and Daufuskie were asked to evacuate on Saturday starting at 10am. I visited Fripp and Hunting that morning and found myself sentimental as I stood at the very spot on South beach where I photographed the little blue cabin that was still standing there on October 8, the day after Hurricane Matthew hit.
I will remember Irma as a storm to be reckoned with. Howling winds ripping through the quiet town of our sweet southern town, tossing the graceful Spanish moss frills around crooked oak tree branches and crossing sea walls during high tide. The water will recede. The sun will shine again. And the seaside town of Beaufort, SC and surrounding areas will survive and look back knowing we are Beaufort strong.

700 Pound Snake Pulled out of Lake in North Carolina
Giant 700 pound snake caught in lake in Proctor, North Carolina. The giant man eating python was measured at 98 feet long. Police were contacted to see if there have been any recently filed missing person reports as a snake this big could have surely eaten a human.
This giant snake is massive and just gorgeous, but it didn't take long to find out that the STORY behind it... was fake, just another hoax.
While the image is indeed real, I think the size of the giant snake could have been exaggerated due to the camera angle
Nevertheless, this snake is still huge, but where did it come from? The markings on it's skin looks similar to that of a reticulated python native to Southeast Asia. After playing around with a little Google translate, the mystery was finally solved.
This giant python came from Indonesia and after some rough translating, it turns out that it was discovered this last Thanksgiving near the village of Belinyu City. It was found by accident by a group of construction workers who severely injured the reptile while knocking down a large dead tree in which the python was sleeping inside of. The workers put the dying snake out of it's misery and buried it.
It's sad to see such an incredible animal killed, especially one that could have been a new world record size. I wish there were more pictures so we could get a better idea of just how large it was.
I really enjoyed learning about this amazing snake, if you guys have any cool wildlife stories or interesting animals that you think I might enjoy, tell me about it on Facebook
