Northern California Hwy 36 Coast to Cascades: Lassen Nat. For. Motorcycle Tour
In early July, I rode my motorcycle on Highway 36 in northern California from coastal Arcata to cascade's Westwood (~300 miles). My destination: Lassen National Forest to help study how the forest is regenerating following multiple wildfires, specifically looking at oak trees' vegetative growth response to mixed-severity fires in a conifer-dominated, high-elevation environment. Drive 4K - Pacific Coast Highway - USA
Sunday Afternoon Drive along the Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County Los Angeles area of California.
The Pacific Coast Highway, State Route 1 (SR 1), is a major north–south state highway that runs along most of the Pacific coastline of the U.S. state of California. At a total of just over 655.8 miles (1,055.4 km), it is the longest state route in California. SR 1 has several portions designated as either Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway. Its southern terminus is at Interstate 5 (I-5) near Dana Point in Orange County and its northern terminus is at U.S. Route 101 (US 101) near Leggett in Mendocino County. SR 1 also at times runs concurrently with US 101, most notably through a 54-mile (87 km) stretch in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and across the Golden Gate Bridge.
The highway is designated as an All-American Road. In addition to providing a scenic route to numerous attractions along the coast, the route also serves as a major thoroughfare in the Greater Los Angeles Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and several other coastal urban areas.
SR 1 was built piecemeal in various stages, with the first section opening in the Big Sur region in the 1930s. However, portions of the route had several names and numbers over the years as more segments opened. It was not until the 1964 state highway renumbering that the entire route was officially designated as SR 1. Although SR 1 is a popular route for its scenic beauty, frequent landslides and erosion along the coast have caused several segments to be either closed for lengthy periods for repairs, or re-routed inland.
Orange County
At its southernmost end in Orange County, SR 1 terminates at I-5 in Capistrano Beach in Dana Point. It then travels west into the city center. After leaving Dana Point, SR 1 continues northwest along the coast through Laguna Beach (where it meets the southern terminus of SR 133) and Crystal Cove State Park.
SR 1 then enters Newport Beach, where it is known as simply Coast Highway. It passes through several affluent neighborhoods, including Newport Coast and Corona Del Mar, spans the entrance to the Upper Newport Bay, which marks the boundary between East Coast Highway and West Coast Highway, and crosses California State Route 55 near its southern terminus. Upon entering Huntington Beach, SR 1 regains the Pacific Coast Highway designation. It passes Huntington State Beach and the southern terminus of California State Route 39 before reaching Bolsa Chica State Beach and the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. PCH then continues along the coast into Seal Beach, the final city on its journey in Orange County.

I drive up the California Pacific Coast Highway.

Today we travel the short way from Estes Park to Lyons, Colorado, U.S.A.... U.S. Highway 36. Traveling this way to and from these two towns as opposed to going the longer alternative, Colorado Highway 7, cuts the trip time to about half. Nice speeds of 55mph can be achieved along this stretch. Not as pretty as designated Scenic Route 7...
...but it seems that all of these mountain roads are pretty to a degree :) . Here along U.S. 36, though, it is a little bit uneventful. Some things to see going out of Estes - like Lake Estes, the big climb out of Estes, Jellystone Park of Estes alongside the road (always fun to see ^_^ ), Pinewood Springs etc... but not really much else :p .
One thing that is unique is coming out of the mountains here. As we come out of the mountains, we first see low, red ridges before coming out onto the high plains. Unfortunately we don't truly get onto the high plains on this trip... almost, but no cigar ;) .
As we roll into Lyons on this day, a bluegrass festival was going on as can be seen with all the traffic cones and scores of patrol cars sitting outside the venue where this event was taking place. Sounds like people really have fun at these festivals in Lyons (from what I was told it's a bit like Woodstock @o@ )!

00:22 - S. St. Vrain Avenue (Colorado Hwy. 7 East) is on the right (ramp).

26:17 - Lyons City Limits (entering Lyons). The city portion of (eastbound) W. Main Street begins (U.S. Hwy. 36 East).
26:24 - North St. Vrain Creek bridge.
27:02 - North St. Vrain Creek bridge.
27:07 - 5th Ave. enters from the left, now southbound on 5th Ave. (U.S. Hwy. 36 East).
27:11 - Main St. intersection (blind). U.S. Hwy. 36 West enters from the left and joins 5th Ave. to go west (reverse of our direction).
27:18 - Broadway St. intersection. U.S. Hwy. 36 East goes left, CO Hwy. 7 West begins again here and follows 5th Ave. ahead.
17:24 - Westbound on Broadway St. (U.S. Hwy. 36 East). The Lyons Depot Library is on the right.
27:36 - 4th Ave. intersection. Sandstone Park is on the right just after the intersection.
27:58 - 3rd Ave. intersection. The Lyons Volunteer Fire Department is on the right just after the intersection (can't be seen).
28:10 - Broadway St. becomes Ute Highway approximately somewhere along here. Now eastbound on Ute Hwy. (U.S. Hwy. 36 East).

16,000 km / 10,000 miles North American Road Trip GoPro Timelapse
In 2014 I decided to drive accross North America. The exact route can be found here
There is some commentary along the trip by me, and some pictures from the major events during the trip.
The songs being played are songs that were listened to along the way, so every once in a while a song would just click with the scenery as I was driving. I wrote it down so when I was editing the video the same song would make it in.
The time lapse was taken with a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition, with pictures being taken every 2 seconds. Max resolution, protune on, and white balance to camera RAW. Processed in GoPro Studio and stitched together with after effects and premier. Approximate amount of pictures taken was about 480,000 pictures. This equated to over 2.5 TB of data that I had to encode and backup along the trip. This took weeks to render, color correct, and stitch together.
The trip lasted 114 days during which I drove 22,350 km. The recording shows only the major route and runs ~16,000 km.
