Mt Everest Base Camp Trek 2017
After spending a couple of days in KATHMANDU, Dad and I took a 45min flight and flew to LUKLA to start our epic trek to Everest Base Camp. One of the most dangerous flights in the world!
I'm a total trekking rookie but Mt Everest had always interested me and this was a way I could get really close and personal.
Not only was I a rookie trekker but I had never been at altitude by foot and like everything in my life, I wanted to do it naturally.
My guide told me 99% of people take a prescribed drug called Diamox.
This was going to be interesting.
My Dad is 70 in a couple of months. I felt like it was now or never.
Massive shout out and BIG thanks to -
Himalayan Scenery Trek & Expedition straight out of Kathmandu, Nepal.
BIG Thanks to our awesome guides Shiba & Dussi.
And Thanks a million to the whole UK and Aussie crew who trekked their way to Base Camp with us.
Gary, Caroline, Sam, Mel, Dave, Clare, Alice and of course my Dad.
This is a great video to watch if you are thinking of trekking to EBC during April/May as you can see what gear we are all wearing as we move through each day. We had a low of -13 degrees celsius.
Thanks and Enjoy!

Episode № 1 ⇝ The Old Route to Everest ◮
Subscribe and join me, Vivi, in my trip around the world! This series follows my journey trekking solo from Jiri to EBC in April 2018.
In this episode we begin the arduous trek from Jiri to Everest Base Camp, driving in from Kathmandu to Jiri on Day 1 (approx 200km), then walking from Jiri to Deurali on Day 2 (18.2km).
It was a rough bus ride in, as my travel agent tried to warn me; 'it's a local bus, on bad roads, are you sure you don't want to fly to Lukla?', I ofcourse didn't know what local bus and bad roads really meant, so I found that out the hard way!
The second day, I imagined to be gentle slopes, gradually getting higher. Unfortunately, after lunch Bimal points to the top of a hill and tells me that's Deurali, where we are going, I thought he was joking, he was not.
Hope you enjoyed this episode, I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments so feel free to ask!
I booked my Everest trek through Madan at Top of the World Adventure in Kathmandu, who organise all kinds of treks and adventures throughout Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. Madan is a dedicated and super organised agent! If you would like to book a tour, visit the website here and check out the tours topoftheworldadv.com
If you're interested in any treks in Nepal, I highly recommend contacting Bimal to see if he is free to guide you! He is a kind, honest, hilarious guide/personal trainer/friend. You can get in contact with him at: Bimalsstha@gmail.com

Only awe-stricken silence can come close to matching the experience of going on a mountain flight to encounter the tallest mountains of this earth. No wonder mountain fly-bys have become a popular tourist attraction in Nepal.
Mountain flight appeals to all categories of travelers. For those who are restricted by time or other considerations from going trekking, these flights offer a panoramic view of the Himalaya in just one hour. Even those visitors who like the rigors of a trek still don't miss the opportunity to conquer the mountains in one fell swoop.
Travelers take off from Kathmandu in the early morning for an hour's worth of spectacular mountain scenery. As the aircraft lifts up and heads towards the east, passengers don't have to wait too long to find out what's in store for them. There they are -the mountains, as they always have been. First to their far left visitors see Gosaithan, also called Shisha Pangma, standing at the majestic height of 8,013 m.
Immediately to the right of Gosaithan, there appears Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m), a mountain that looks like the number 8 lying down and covered with snow. To the right of Dorje Lakpa is Phurbi-Ghyachu, which looms over the Kathmandu Valley.
As the plane moves along, the mountains come closer and closer. Next on the vision is Choba-Bhamare, the smallest one of the lot at 5,933 m but singularly stubborn as it has never been climbed. Then appears the mountain that is not only prominent in sight but also spirituality -Gauri-Shanker. Lord Shiva (Shanker) and his consort Gauri are said to protect this mountain, at the proud height of 7,134 m, and the summit had a history of unsuccessful attempts till 1979. Gauri-Shanker is sharp and very conspicuous during the mountain flight. As the plane moves towards the land of rising sun, the eastern Himalaya, a succession of glorious mountains follow. Melungtse, a plateau like mountain, stretches up to 7,023 m. Chugimago at 6,297 m is still a virgin, waiting to be climbed. At 6,956 m, Numbur mountain resembles a breast, the maternal source in the sky providing pure milk to the Sherpas of the Solukhumbu.. Next is Karyolung, an intensely white mountain that at 6,511 m gleams with the rising sun.
Cho-Oyu is the eighth highest mountain in the world. reaching a height of 8,201 m, it appears stunningly beautiful from the aircraft. Next on the menu is Gyachungkhang, at a majestic height of 7,952 m, considered an extremely difficult climb. To the right of Gyachungkhang is Pumori (7,161 m). as passengers get closer to Everest, there's Nuptse (7,855m), which means West Peak, signifying its direction from Everest. Finally there's Everest (8,848 m) itself, known as Sagarmatha by the Nepalese and Chomolungma by the Tibetans. Much has already been written about Everest, but to actually witness it face to face during a mountain flight is something else. Even while it looms there in front of the eyes, it remains an enigma, this highest spot on earth.

Nepal | 2014 | Nepal Travel | Annapurna Circuit | Upper Mustang | Lo Manthang | Visit Nepal | Nepal Trek | Trekking | Himalayas | Pokhara | Kathmandu
A short video from my time in Nepal (2014). Mostly includes footage from my 17 days combined trek of the Annapurna Circuit (Thorong La Pass) and the Upper Mustang region (Lo Manthang).
Our trek began at Besisahar (Lamjung), and over the next few weeks, we trekked the classic Annapurna Circuit, via Bahundanda, Chame, Pisang, Humde, en route to Manang. From Manang, we took the side trails at Kecho/Ice Lake and Tilicho Tal (via Shree Kharkha), then continued our trek to Yak Kharkha-Thorong Phedi-High Camp, crossed the Thorong La Pass (5416 m), and to Muktinath. Pardon my expression, but Tilicho Lake is beautifully tranquil, and a must visit place.
From Muktinath, we continued north to Kagbeni, and from here onwards, we entered the restricted Upper Mustang region. The valley was closed to foreigners until 1992 and this ‘Forbidden Kingdom of Mustang' dates back over a thousand years. We continued the high desert region and tibetan influence of Upper Mustang via Chele, Ghemi, Tsarang/Charang, en route to Lo-Manthang (3840 m), and Chhoser (4 km from the Nepal-Tibet border). 2 nights were spent in Lo Manthang, a fascinating experience. Another must visit site in the region are the cave dwellings in their thousands, near Chhoser. The scale of the Zhong Caves is truly something to behold, and undoubtedly one of the world's great archaeological mysteries.
We then started our return trek to Jomsom, via Drakmar, Ghilling, Chele and Kagbeni. At Jomsom, we got some much needed shower, then continued our trek towards Marpha-Kalopani-Ghasa-Tatopani-Sikha-Chitre-Ghorepani, and the unforgettable sunrise views at Poon Hill, on our very final day. From Poon Hill and Ghorepani, we trekked (literally ran) towards Ulleri-Tikhedhunga-Birethani, then from Nayapul, took the bus towards Pokhara. How glad we were, to finally reach home.
Throughout the trek, I met so many wonderful people, made lifelong friends and visited some of the most amazing places, the film doesn’t even come close to showing the real Nepal, its beautiful people and the good times had by all. My heartfelt thanks to everyone.
Filmed using the GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition.

Spring waters flowing down Himalayan mountains, Jammu & Kashmir
Amarnath cave is a famous shrine in Hinduism located in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is dedicated to Shiva. The cave is situated at an altitude of 3,888 m (12,756 ft), about 141 km (88 mi) from Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir and reached through Pahalgam town. The shrine forms an important part of Hinduism, and is considered to be one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism. The cave is surrounded by snowy mountains. The cave itself is covered with snow most time of the year except for a short period of time in summer when it is open for pilgrims. An annual pilgrimage is made to the Amarnath cave by lakhs (hundreds of thousands) of Hindu devotees on challenging mountainous terrain to see an ice stalagmite formed inside the cave. The Amarnath cave has been a place of worship since times immemorial. There are references to one Aryaraja (32BCE-17CE) who used to worship a lingam formed of ice in Kashmir. The book Rajatarangini refers to Amareshwara or Amarnath. It is believed that Queen Suryamathi in the 11th century AD gifted trishuls, banalingas and other sacred emblems to this temple. Rajavalipataka, begun by Prjayabhatta has detailed references to the pilgrimage to Amarnath Cave. Other than this, there are further references to this pilgrimage in many other ancient texts.
The temple is a popular yatra destination for some Hindus. In 2011 it received about 634,000 persons, the highest recorded number for the site. The number was 622,000 in 2012. Pilgrims visit the holy site during the 45-day season around the festival of Shravani Mela in July--August, coinciding with the Hindu holy month of Shraavana. The Amarnath Yatra is organised every year by the J &K Govt. during the month of sharavan (July and August); the dates however, vary every year looking at the weather conditions and according to Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) in the month of Sharavan (Vikrama Samwat). Yatra to Baba Amarnath Holy Cave for which one has to trek a height of about 14,500 ft is full of thrill and joy .The feeling of divine which is always beneath ones' heart , burst out and one realises 'Moksha' as one attends the Cave and perform the prayer before the Shivlinga . Surrounded by beautiful valleys, mountains , one will always feel His presence on the paradise of the earth, the memory of which hardly vanishes with time a journey which will rediscover the nature and its love which is always inside but one has never felt.
Devotees travel on foot, either from Srinagar or from Pahalgam.[3] The latter journey takes approximately 5 days. The State Road Transport Corporation and Private Transport Operators provide the regular services from Jammu to Pahalgam and Baltal. Also privately hired taxis are available from Jammu. The shorter northern route is just about 16 km long, but has a very steep gradient and is quite difficult to climb. It starts from Baltal and passes through Domial, Barari, and Sangam to reach the cave. The northern route is along the Amarnath valley and all along the route one can see the river Amaravathy (It is more like a tributary of Chenab) which originates from Amarnath Glacier. En route to the cave, various non-profit organizations set up food supply and resting tents called pandals which are available for free to the pilgrims. Near the shrine, hundreds of tents which are erected by locals can be hired for a night's stay. Helicopter services from base camp to Panjtarni (6 km from the cave) are also available from various private operators.
