A Walk Around The Historic Core District, Downtown Los Angeles
The Historic Core was the center of the city before World War II. With the general decline of downtown after World War II, and the movement of all financial institutions several blocks to the west, ending up on Figueroa Street, Flower Street, and Grand Avenue, the area suffered. In the 1950s it became the center of Latino entertainment in the city, e.g.: the Million Dollar Theatre featured the biggest names in the Spanish language entertainment world. This paralleled the general white flight occurring in Downtown Los Angeles at the time, which saw Broadway become a major center for Latino life in the city.
In 1999, the Los Angeles City Council passed an Adaptive Re-Use Ordinance, allowing for the conversion of old, unused office buildings to apartments or lofts. Developer Tom Gilmore purchased a series of century-old buildings and converted them into lofts near Main and Spring streets, a development now known as the Old Bank District. Other notable redevelopment projects in the Historic Core have included the Higgins Building, The Security Building, the Pacific Electric Building, The Judson, and the Subway Terminal Building. As of 2005, redevelopment projects in downtown Los Angeles have been divided about evenly between rentals and condominiums; though projects near the Staples Center arena in the South Park neighborhood have been overwhelmingly dedicated to condominiums.
This is what is was like to walk around the Historic Core in 2014.

Los Angeles, officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the second-most populous city (over 18 million) in the United States (after New York City), the most populous city in California. Historic L.A. cafeteria serves nostalgia
It opened in 1935, billed back then as the world's largest cafeteria. Following decades of decay and declining business, Clifton's is getting more than a fresh coat of paint. Restaurateur and developer Andrew Meieran has had a crush on Clifton's for the longest time and now he's turning it into the go-to spot for comfort food. Lee Cowan reports on the resurrection of a classic Downtown Los Angeles eatery.

About Los Angeles Historic Core
Historic Core is a district in Downtown Los-Angeles that is located between Hill and Main streets. This neighborhood was the city center before the World War II. It is interesting that this part of the city remained mostly “untouched” by the sprawl of skyscrapers that started in 1960s and nowadays buildings look basically the same as they did in 1930. One of the famous architectural landmarks here is Bradbury Building. This fantastic architectural construction was numerously “immortalized” in movies; the most noticeable from them is the “Blade Runner”. Bradbury Building with its ironwork railing and elevators quickly became the most fashionable business location.

Millennium Biltmore Hotel
After our meal and exploration of Clifton’s Cafeteria, Jared leads us across a few downtown L.A. blocks and over to the Millennium Biltmore. We’re all familiar with the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, as we put on workshops their, twice a year.
“The home of Hollywood glamour, the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles has been the choice of celebrities, presidents, and dignitaries, and the backdrop for many movies and TV shows. Designated as a historic-cultural landmark, the interior of this beloved 1923 hotel features frescos and murals, carved marble fountains and columns, crystal chandeliers, and embroidered tapestries.”

Venice Canal Historic District, Los Angeles California
Have you've been to Venice California and wondered why it's named after the City of Canals in Italy? There actually are a system of canals here, inspired by the Italian city, man-made in 1905. The canals was in poor condition from the 40's until they where finally renovated in 1992. The area is quite idyllic today and well worth a visit. The Canals are also known as Linnie Canal Park.
