HO CHI MINH MAUSOLEUM AND PRESIDENTIAL PALACE - SAIGON (VIETNAM)
HO CHI MINH MAUSOLEUM HOLDS THE EMBALMED REMAINS OF HO CHI MINH. THE MASIVE GRANITE STRUCTURE LOOMS OVER BA DINH SQUARE IN HANOI. HAD HO, WHOSE NATIONAL NAME WAS HO CHI MINH, SPECIFIED IN HIS WILL THAT HIS BODY HAD TO BE CREMATED, WITH HIS ASHES SCATTERED OVER THE NORTH, CENTER AND SOUTH OF THE COUNTRY. THE VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT DID THE OPPOSITE OF HIS WISHES AND HIS BODY WAS EMBALMED.
PRESIDENTIAL PALACE IS THE OFFICIAL HOME OF VIETNAM’S PRESIDENT BUT IT WAS ORIGINALLY THE RESIDENCE OF THE FRENCH GOVERNOR – GENERAL OF INDOCHINA. THE ORNATE 30 ROOM PALACE, BUILT IN BEAUX ARTS STYLE AT THE START OF THE 20TH CENTURY, IS ALSO USED OCCASIONALLY BY THE GOVERNMENT FOR STATE RECEPTIONS, PARTICULARLY WHEN HEADS OF STATE VISIT. FOR OBVIOUS SYMBOLIC REASONS, HO CHI MNH REFUSED TO MOVE INTO PALACE WHEN FRENCH WERE OUTSTED IN 1954. INSTEAD, HE MOVED INTO A MODEST COTTAGE ON THE GROUNDS WHERE HE WAITED FOR A HOUSE ON STILTS HE COMMISSIONED TO BE BUILT. WE PASSED A GARAGE WHERE HIS COLLECTION OF WELL PRESERVED GLEAMING CARS REMAINS STORED BEHIND GLASS TODAY. THEN WE WENT UPSTAIRS OF HIS STILT HOUSE, WHICH HE MOVED INTO DURING 1958 AND REMAINED LIVING AT UNTIL HIS DEATH, JUST OVER A DECADE LATER. UNCLE HO’S HOUSE ON SILTS IS A SYMBOL OF HIS SIMPLICITY AND GENTLENESS. THE HOUSE IS SET IN A STRETCH ON MANGO TREE FILLED PARKLAND AROUND A LAKE. TRE PRESIDENT PALACE, THE HOUSE ON STILTS AND ALL GARDENS ROUND ARE AMAZING. BEAUTIFUL VIEWS AND LOVELY GROUNDS, CERTAINLY WELL WORTH THE STOP AND EASY STROLL THROUGH ALL THIS UNIQUE PLACE.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum-Hanoi, Vietnam (With Tour Guide History Lesson)
It was eerie to see the dead body of Ho Chi Minh lying in state after 45 years. There wasn't much light inside and there were guards everywhere so any chance of sneaking some video of the body went out the window. My guide eloquently explains the life and death of Ho Chi Minh, former Prime Minister and President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam).

Hanoi Presidential Palace and Ho Chi Minh Stilt House (With Narration + Music)
When Ho Chi Minh was President of North Vietnam, he refused to live at the luxurious Presidential Palace because he wanted to empathize with the poor people of his country and didn't want to send the wrong message. He lived instead in the former palace electrician's quarters (House 54) and in a Stilt House, both of which you can see in this video.

Ho Chi Minh Museum and One Pillar Pagoda 9/27/2016
Hanoi, Vietnam
September 27, 2016
The Ho Chi Minh Museum was constructed in May 1990 on the occasion of President Ho Chi Minh’s 100th birth anniversary. It was built for the Vietnamese people to commemorate their struggle and victories during his era and to show their deep gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh.
The museum has several sections and a thematic exhibition space to showcase Ho Chi Minh’s life and revolutionary career, artifacts, artworks, documentary films and over 25,000 publications about President Ho and the Vietnamese revolution.
The thousand-year-old One Pillar Pagoda beside the Ho Chi Minh Museum is a Buddhist temple built from wood on a single stone pillar during the time of Emperor Ly Thai Tong. The design resembling a lotus blossom is a symbol for purity and the shrine inside the pagoda is dedicated to Vietnamese Buddhist deity Quan Am.
One Pillar Pagoda is one of Vietnam’s most iconic and most revered temples. It has been destroyed during the evacuation of the French Union forces in 1954 and was rebuilt afterwards.

Presidential Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam
Presidential Palace in Hanoi is a three-storey structure located on the north of Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Presidential Palace stands as a memento of French contribution to the architectural splendor in Indochina. This mustard-yellow palace was built from 1900 to 1906 to function as the living and operational bases of the governors-general of Indo-China. Located on Hung Vuong Street and Hoang Van Thu Street, the designs of this palace were conceived by Auguste Henri Vildieu, the French architect officially appointed for Vietnam.
History says that Ho Chi Minh denied staying in Presidential Palace in Hanoi when he returned to independent Vietnam after defeating the French in 1954. He rather began staying in a mere cottage within the premises of the palace from 1954 to 1958. Thereafter, he built a Vietnamese house made of stilt but he continued to use the palace when important guests came to Hanoi.

Hanoi (Vietnamese: Hà Nội, Hán Tự: 河内) pronunciation (help·info), estimated population 6.232.940 (2008) [1], is the capital and second-largest city of Vietnam. From 1010 until 1802, with a few brief interruptions, it was the political centre of an independent Vietnam. It was eclipsed by Huế during the Nguyen Dynasty as the capital of Vietnam, but Hanoi served as the capital of French Indochina from 1902 to 1954. From 1954 to 1976, it was the capital of North Vietnam.
The city is located on the right bank of the Red River. Hanoi is located at 21°2′N 105°51′E / 21.033°N 105.85°E / 21.033; 105.85Coordinates: 21°2′N 105°51′E / 21.033°N 105.85°E / 21.033; 105.85, 1760 km (1094 mi) north of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly called Saigon.
On May 29 2008, it was decided that Ha Tay province, Vinh Phuc's Me Linh district and 4 communes of Luong Son district, Hoa Binh is merged into the metropolitan area of Hanoi from August 1 2008[2]. Hanoi's total area increased to 334,470 hectares divided into 29 subdivisions[3] with the new population being 6,232,940[3]. The Hanoi Capital Region (Vietnamese: Vùng Thủ Đô Hà Nội), a metropolitan area covering Hanoi and 6 surrounding provinces under planning will have an area of 13,436 square kilometers with a population of 15 million by 2020[4]. October 2010 will officially mark 1000 years of the establishment of the city.
As the capital of Vietnam for almost a thousand years, Hanoi is considered to be the cultural centre of Vietnam, where every dynasty has left behind their imprint. Even though some relics have not survived through wars and time, the city still has many interesting cultural and historic monuments for visitors and residents alike. Even when the nation's capital moved to Hue under the Nguyen dynasty in 1802, the city of Hanoi continued to flourish, especially after the French took control in 1888 and modeled the city's architecture to their tastes, lending an important aesthetic to the city's rich stylistic heritage. The city boasts more than 1,000 years of history, and that of the past few hundred years has been well preserved.[10]
Hanoi hosts more cultural sites than any city in Vietnam, including over 600 pagodas and temples.[11]
The Old Quarter, near Hoan Kiem lake, has the original street layout and architecture of old Hanoi. At the beginning of the 20th century the city consisted of only about 36 streets, most of which are now part of the old quarter. Each street then had merchants and households specialized in a particular trade, such as silk traders, jewellery, etc. The street names nowadays still reflect these specializations, although few of them remain exclusively in their original commerce. The area is famous for its small artisans and merchants, including many silk shops. Local cuisine specialties as well as several clubs and bars can be found here also. A night market (near Đồng Xuân market) in the heart of the district opens for business every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening with a variety of clothing, souvenirs and food.
Some others prominent places are: The Temple of Literature (Văn Miếu), site of the oldest university in Vietnam 1070; One Pillar Pagoda (Chùa Một Cột); Flag Tower of Hanoi (Cột cờ Hà Nội). In 2004, a massive part of the 900 year old citadel was discovered in central Hanoi, near the site of Ba Dinh square. [12]
A city between the rivers, built from lowland, Hanoi has many scenic lakes and sometime is called city of lakes. Among its lakes, the most famous are Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, Halais Lake (Hồ Thiền Quang) in Vietnamese), and Bay Mau Lake. West Lake (Hồ Tây) is a popular place for people to spend time. It is the largest lake in Hanoi and there are many temples in the area. There are small boats for hire and a floating restaurant.
Under French rule, as an administrative centre for the French colony of Indochina, the French colonial architecture style became dominant, many examples remain today: the tree-lined boulevards (e.g. Phan Dinh Phung street), The Grand Opera House, The State Bank of Vietnam (formerly The Bank of Indochina), The Presidential Palace (formerly Place of The Governor-General of French Indochina), the cathédrale St-Joseph, and historic hotel Sofitel Metropole.

The building was built in 1885 – 1890, designed by the French architect Foulhoux was built between 1885 – 1890. It was designed by Alfred Foulhoux, a French architect, blending the Occidental style with Oriental style. The building was originally intended for use as the Commercial museum exhibiting native specialities, but it became the Cochinchina governor’s palace.
In 1945, the building belonged to five owners. The Japanese fascist government took over the French colonial government in March, Yoshio Minoda, the Japanese Governor occupied the palace, then Japanese government entrusted it to the regime of Bao Dai – Tran Trong Kim. Old Vietnamese tanks at the Presidential Palace in Saigon, Vietnam
The T-54 and T-55 tanks are a series of Soviet main battle tanks introduced in the years following the Second World War. The first T-54 prototype was completed at Nizhny Tagil by the end of 1945. Initial production ramp up settled for 1947 at Nizhny Tagil, and 1948 for Kharkov were halted and curtailed as many problems were uncovered; the T-34-85 still accounted for 88 percent of production through the 50's. The T-54 eventually became the main tank for armoured units of the Soviet Army, armies of the Warsaw Pact countries, and many others. T-54s and T-55s have been involved in many of the world's armed conflicts since the later part of the 20th century.
Reunification Palace in Saigon by City Pass Guide
City Pass Guide is proud to bring to you beautiful intro videos of the most iconic attractions around Vietnam.
Reunification Palace
Saigon's Reunification Palace was designed by Ngo Viet Thu for South Vietnam's former President, Ngo Dinh Diem, during the American War.
The official handover of power took place here on April 30, 1975 and the place became a monument to that fateful date. The highlight is the basement that looks like a wartime movie set. Near Reunification Palace is 30-4 Park, one of the better HCMC green spaces.
Reunification Palace was once known as Independence Palace before the fall of Saigon to communists. Arguable the most famous moment in its history was in April 1975 when tanks broke through the main gates.
Inside, be sure to check out the command bunker dotted with creaky radio equipment and tactical maps pinned to the walls. Put Reunification Palace near the top of your must-see HCMC sights.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, seeing the founder of modern Vietnam
In Hanoi, you can find some amazing sites. But one of the most interesting is seeing the preserved body of Ho Chi Minh. His body is held in a building that is a copy of Lenin's in Russia. Which down the street, you can visit a park that is in honor of Lenin!
