The Pencil Sharpener Museum
One of our favorite things to do on a road trip is to visit off-beat, quirky museums. The Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum in the beautiful Hocking Hills of Ohio is said to be the largest collection of pencil sharpeners in the world! Sporting over 3400 pencil sharpeners, the museum offers a nostalgic look at getting to the point.
Paul Johnson's amazing collection and the shed in which he housed it, was donated to the Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center in 2010. Many visitors to the museum stay on the lookout for unique pencil sharpeners which they purchase and donate to the museum.
The Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum is open to the public Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the museum is free (or we luckily timed our visit when someone was on break:) The Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center is located at 13178 State Route 664 South, Logan, Ohio, 43138

Beautiful facility, and Tonn one of the things when Todd Sanning brought us over to the facility yesterday afternoon, we were getting our equipment set up, the thing that he pointed out first and we talked about it when we landed were the flags out front. Tell us the story about the flags.
TO: Well Friday was a very special day, Dave. We used it somewhat as the kick off for 50th anniversary weekend, but we re-dedicated our flags here on the corporate headquarters property and it was a great moment. I think a lot of our teammates took a lot of pride. We gathered everybody as they left at shift change at about 4:45 we commenced the ceremony to raise the flag with some color guard. Presenting the flags and raising them…
DN: Indeed. You know Tonn you mentioned the fact that… and it’s obviously…. Well it’s a fact because it’s true that by and large truck drivers are very patriotic people, but the man on the street… the man in the family truckster going down the highway doesn’t necessarily know that. People don’t know something unless you tell them. These trucks tell people this, do you get some response back from the general public about that?
TO: We’ve received tremendous response and you are absolutely right, really the almost invisible hero behind that truck is the driver. The truck doesn’t do anything without having a great driver behind the wheel. So that truck is the outward visible symbol and we have with our patriot fleet received a tremendous amount of response from customers. We constantly get people stopping wanting to have their pictures taken with that truck. I’ve received a number of different emails and just saying how proud they were of seeing the truck and giving compliments for our efforts to recognize the patriots
Crete Carrier is one of the nation’s largest, privately owned trucking companies, and has been in business for 50 years. Crete Carrier operates as a truckload and flatbed carrier for virtually any commodity, and our truck drivers are among the best, exceeding the CSA score standards required by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The National Transportation Institute recognizes Crete Carrier as a Top Pay Certified company, and in addition, we offer a gold standard benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life, 401K, and a profit sharing program. Because of this, drivers stay with us three times longer than the competition.
