Lap of Lindisfarne - bit windy and the video's a tad long but it was such a beautiful day and place to be.
Holy Island of Lindisfarne Vlog
Hello Everyone,
Welcome back to my channel!!
We recently visited HOLY ISLAND in Lindisfarne Northumberland.
The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, also known simply as Holy Island, is a tidal island off the northeast coast of England, which constitutes the civil parish of Holy Island in Northumberland.
Lindisfarne has become known as 'Holy Island' because of the important part it played in the story of bringing the Christian gospel to England. ... Oswald granted Lindisfarne to Aidan so that he could establish a monastery modelled on their home on Iona.
The island measures 3 miles (4.8 km) from east to west and 1 1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) from north to south, and comprises approximately 1,000 acres (4.0 km2) at high tide.
So if you plan to visit this island with your family, do check the below links for more information-
IMP - Also, do check the crossing timingS of the causeway!!

Pilgrim's Way to Holy Island
This is a video of a few of my family members walking the pilgrims way in Northumberland, England.
Ever since 635, when King Oswald gave the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to St Aidan to establish his monastery, the island has been a place of pilgrimage. The road was not constructed until 1954 and until then the vertical poles were the only indicators of the safe route between the mainland and island. The sight of the poles stretching across the sand and mud is one of the most iconic views in Northumberland and to walk the route away from the road and follow in the footsteps of our medieval ancestors is a wonderful experience.

Welcome to Rucksack Rose - The Outdoors Channel. Read more at
This is a 6.8 mile leisurely, circular route beginning and ending at the car park which follows the coastline of the island from the harbour, past Edward Luton's famous castle to the nature reserve and the unspoilt north shore of the island and the remains of the lime quarry to the snook where the island becomes tidal. It then follows the causeway road back into the village and your starting point. It involves a lot of walking on dunes and sand and is fairly level, the largest climbs being the sand dunes. There are a couple of sections which involve walking across stony sections of beach. If you are visiting the island you must always check the tide times to ensure that you can get on and off the island. There are some facilities in the village including a visitor centre, a few shops, a post office, pubs and a cafe.
A GPS download of this walk is available from my Viewranger profile:
Wherever you go stay safe, check the weather, plan ahead, let people know where you are going, take maps & compass with your gps and follow the countryside or access codes for where you are.
Music / Sound: The birdsong was recorded near the farm to the north of the village on the day of the walk in mid February.
The Holy Island of Lindisfarne - Northumberland UK
The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is a tidal island off the northeast coast of England. It is also known just as Holy Island. It constitutes the civil parish of Holy Island in Northumberland. The island measures 3 miles (4.8 km) from east to west and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from north to south, and comprises approximately 1,000 acres (400 ha) (4 km2) at high tide. The nearest point of the island is about 1 mile (1.6 km) from the mainland of England. The island of Lindisfarne is located along the northeast coast of England, close to the border with Scotland. It is accessible, most times, at low tide by crossing sand and mud flats which are covered with water at high tides. Warning signs urge visitors walking to the island to keep to the marked path, check tide times and weather carefully and to seek local advice if in doubt. For drivers, tide tables are prominently displayed at both ends of the causeway and also where the Holy Island road leaves the A1 Great North Road at Beal.
Despite these warnings, about one vehicle each month is stranded on the causeway, requiring rescue by HM Coastguard, Seahouses RNLI lifeboat, or RAF helicopter.
Holy Island: (5 mile) barefoot walk across the sands of the pilgrim trail - iWalkOutdoors
This is a video of my walk across to Holy Island at Lindisfarne on the Northumberland coast.
I had planned to walk the 6 miles across the causeway and back with my boots on. The causeway can be crossed by vehicles and pedestrians at low tide. But, when I walked to the first refuge post, I decided to get my shoes and socks off and follow the pilgrim trail across the sands.
It is absolutely essential to check the tide times before contemplating and carrying out this walk. Failing to do so is dangerous and foolhardy. Done correctly, and by following the abundance of guidance and tips on the internet about the tides and the walk, and you'll be fine. Early pilgrims have been making this crossing for over 1,000 years.

Big T beating the tide at Holy Island
volunteer week holy isle 2017
In March 2017 we went to a volunteering week to the Holy Isle which is placed off the Arran Isle in Scotland. Holy Isle belong to the Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery and is a Centre for World Peace and Health. The founder and vision holder of the Holy Isle Project is Lama Yeshe Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist meditation master in the Kagyu tradition.
It was an amazing experience. We met people from all over the world: Holland, Germany, Spain, Poland, Czech Scotland, England and more. We worked and enjoyed our time together on that peaceful land.

Hitchhiking & You Can Do Anything (Lindisfarne, Holy Island, UK) 23
After about a mile half along my walk I was picked up by Melonie & Neil from Manchester picked me up and drove me the rest of the 3 miles in. On the way out, a friendly store shop owner, Pauline drove me out to the main road where I pick up the bus. The Holy Island can only be entered and exited when the tides are low between 7am - 1pm, after that the ocean covers the land and you can’t get in or out.
