Butte Creek and Covered Bridge 2016
Chico Wildflower Century 2013--Honey Run Road
Riding up Honey Run Road from Chico, CA to Paradise is fun but always challenging. Many people have to stop and rest, and/or walk with their bikes. Other than a short stop for a photo opp, my brother Dave and I rode without resting. Richard Nolthenius rode with us.
The ride took about 40 minutes; this video represents a small portion of the ride.

Scotty's Bar Sacramento River Labor Day Float 9.5.2016!
Camp Fire Paradise
Filmed from off Hwy 32 Thursday, 11/8,2018, around noon. The fire started at 6:30am near a PG&E powerline. By noon it was already 8000 acres and quickly grew to 20K that day destroying Concow and enveloping Paradise. Butte Creek was impacted Thursday night and continues to be threatened on Monday morning. Many, many homes have been lost in Butte Creek, the historic Honey Run Covered Bridge was destroyed and Paradise and Concow are devastated. Extremely dry conditions and north winds continue to fuel this fire, now the most destructive fire in California history. So far over 7000 structures have been destroyed and 2 dozen fatalities as of Monday morning.

150th Anniversary of the Covered Bridge Across the South Yuba River
Supervising Ranger Don Schmidt thanks all who helped take South Yuba River State Park off the California Park closure, most of whom were in the audience. As part of the 150th Anniversary celebration he recognizes families, dating back to 1850, who lived and worked at what is now the Bridgeport section of the park. Representatives of these families were also in the audience. In the process Don tells interesting history of the park.
Honey Run Road after Humboldt Fire part two
A leisurely drive up Honey Run Road in Chico, CA after the fire swept through Butte Creek Canyon on starting on June 11 2008. Look in the background to see the scorched canyon wall, or behind the houses to see how the fire burned right down to the doorstep.
This series of eight clips may not be that interesting unless you know the road or want to see how the fire moved. It starts at the point where the fire entered the canyon and ends as we cross the bridge. The fire continued up the northeast side of the road, but we don't have video of that as yet.

Butte Canyon From Above and Below...
A Sunday drive in Northern California from Magalia to Chico, and back, on a 75º day in the middle of winter. Had to make a Best Buy run down the hill.
The cliff is called Lookout Point and is overlooking Butte Creek Canyon located several miles upstream from Chico, California. The one-lane road I was coming back up the mountain on is Honey Run Rd, which was an old wagon trail from the 1800's. It runs through the canyon seen from the edge of the butte.
The covered bridge over Butte Creek is called Honey Run Bridge and was built in 1886, and re-roofed in 1894.
The flowers and trees are confused this year, and blooming very early due to the mild temperatures. The canyon is quite a bit greener than in years past.
