Hongshan Forest Zoo | Nanjing Zoo | 红山森林动物园
Hongshan Forest Zoo is a zoological park in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu province, China. There are 280 species among the 3000 animals in the zoo. There are protected animals such as red panda, white tiger, and so on. The first-degree protected species i.e. giant panda is one of the main attractions in this place.

A Reflection on City Zoos

Description: This short video aims to promulgate social reflection on zoo
management with both real-life and online evidence, ultimately, it promotes ethical
considerations and respect for animals to achieve a more balanced human-nature
relationship. The intended targets of this film include zoo designers, managers, local
governments, and the general public. The first two are directly connected with the
welfare of animals living in the zoo. As for the government, the construction of zoos
should be approved by the city planning and landscape architecture departments
beforehand according to“Chinese City Zoo Management Regulations” revised in
January, 2011, thus requiring great capability of decision-makers to carry out the most
reasonable judgments. Moreover, education on the public helps them distinguish zoos
from purely entertainment tools and encourages them to provide timely reports
regarding animal abuse behaviors. The video also includes interviews conducted in
Nanjing Hongshan Forest Park, which is the most famous city zoo in Jiangsu Province.
A list of actions is outlined at the end to propose suggestions regarding better zoo
management.
