The Kenrokuen Gardens were created by the Maeda clan in the 1600s. Along with the Kairakuen and Korakuen gardens, the Kenrokuen gardens are considered among the top three Japanese-style gardens in Japan.
Developed during the reign of Lord Nariyasu Maeda, Kenrokuen gets its name from its six main features: Spaciousness, seclusion, artifice, antiquity, water-courses and panoramic views.
Kenrokuen was created for year-round beauty, with red and white plum blossoms and vibrant summer views. In the winter, yukitsuri ropes protect the trees from snowfall. The scenery weaving through the everyday landscape of the gardens by former lords ensure the majestic beauty of the natural con-tours and add to the gardens’ majesty.
