Thar Desert Trip - Jaisalmer, Rajasthan (Hostel Fort Side)
Travel does what good novelists also do to the life of everyday, placing it like a picture in a frame or a gem in its setting, so that the intrinsic qualities are made more clear. Travel does this with the very stuff that everyday life is made of, giving to it the sharp contour and meaning of art.
I was travelling solo across Rajasthan,India and ran into these beautiful souls. We were staying at the same hostel and decided to go for Desert Safari. Here's a short movie that i made and they liked it alot. This trip is possible under $75 / €65/₹5000 if you are in India including inter-state traveling by a bus or a train. It was warm in the day ( cuz it's a Desert lol ) and fucking cold during the night. We stayed at the hostel for one day at that was $5 (Comfortable bunk beds in dormitory, attached restroom, a pantry, freedom, terrace, wifi, friendly staff. $ 20 dollars for Desert Safari ( on camels- two times ), snacks and coffee, dinner, breakfast. it was amazing!! So by far everything's under $30. The remaining $45 can be spent on travel, food and drinks. Local beer costs $1.50 and meals $3/meal. People of Jaisalmer are very friendly.... and there's this SHOP THAT LEGALLY SELLS WEED! (THANK ME LATER AND PM for details.
One of the most amazing trips ever. Desert Safari and stay at Hostel Fort Side.
Thar Desert Overnight Camel Safari
March 2019 Jaisalmer India
Thar desert - Hub of famous camel safaris!
Desert safaris on camels have become increasingly popular around Jaisalmer. Domestic and international tourists frequent the desert seeking adventure on camels for anything from a day to several days. This ecotourism industry ranges from cheaper backpacker treks to plush Arabian night style campsites replete with banquets and cultural performances. During the treks tourists are able to view the fragile and beautiful ecosystem of the Thar desert. This form of tourism provides income to many operators and camel owners in Jaisalmer as well as employment for many camel trekers in the desert villages nearby.
Thar Desert provides the recreational value in terms of desert festivals organized every year. Rajasthan desert festivals are celebrated with great zest and zeal. This festival is held once a year during winters. Dressed in brilliantly hued costumes, the people of the desert dance and sing haunting ballads of valor, romance and tragedy. The fair has snake charmers, puppeteers, acrobats and folk performers. Camels, of course, play a stellar role in this festival, where the rich and colorful folk culture of Rajasthan can be seen.
Camels are an integral part of the desert life and the camel events during the Desert Festival confirm this fact. Special efforts go into dressing the animal for entering the spectacular competition of the best-dressed camel. Other interesting competitions on the fringes are the moustache and turban tying competitions, which not only demonstrate a glorious tradition but also inspire its preservation. Both the turban and the moustache have been centuries old symbols of honor in Rajasthan. Evenings are meant for the main shows of music and dance. Continuing till late into the night, the number of spectators swells up each night and the grand finale, on the full moon night, takes place by silvery sand dunes.
The Thar Desert also known as the Great Indian Desert is a large, arid region in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent and forms a natural boundary running along the border between India and Pakistan. With an area of more than 200,000 km2 (77,000 sq mi), it is the world's 18th largest subtropical desert. Thar Desert extends from the Sutlej River, surrounded by the Aravalli Ranges on the east, on the south by the salt marsh known as the Great Rann of Kutch (parts of which are sometimes included in the Thar), and on the west by the Indus River. Its boundary to the large thorny steppe to the north is ill-defined. It lies mostly in the Indian State of Rajasthan, and extends into the southern portion of Haryana and Punjab states and into northern Gujarat state.
In Pakistan, the desert covers eastern Sindh Province and the southeastern portion of Punjab Province, where it joins the Cholistan Desert near Bahawalpur. The Tharparkar District is one of the major parts of the desert area. Tharparkar consists of two words: Thar means 'desert' while Parkar stands for 'the other side'. The Thar Desert slopes imperceptibly towards the Indus Plain and surface unevenness is mainly due to sand dunes. The dunes in the south are higher, rising sometimes to 152 m whereas in the north they are lower and rise to 16 m above the ground level. The Aravalli forms the main landmark to the south-east of Thar Desert. The soils of the Arid Zone are generally sandy to sandy-loam in texture. The consistency and depth vary according to the topographical features. The low-lying loams are heavier and may have a hard pan. Some of these soils contain a high percentage of soluble salts in the lower horizons, turning water in the wells poisonous.
Stretches of sand in the desert are interspersed by hillocks and sandy and gravel plains. Due to the diversified habitat and ecosystem, the vegetation, human culture and animal life in this arid region is very rich in contrast to the other deserts of the world. The Thar is one of most heavily populated desert areas in the world and the main occupations of people living here are agriculture and animal husbandry.

JAISALMER TRIP PART 1 | GADISAR LAKE | BOATING | FRIENDS MASTI
The Gadsisar Lake is one of the most famous tourist places in Jaisalmer which was built by Raja Rawal Jaisal, the first ruler of Jaisalmer. In the later years, Maharaja Garisisar Singh rebuilt and revamped the lake. This historic lake is located towards the south of Jaisalmer city and the entrance to the lake is through Tilon-Ki-Pol, a magnificent and artistically carved yellow sandstone archway. The Tilon Ki Pol is adorned with an idol of the Hindu deity Vishnu, installed in the year 1908.

Jaisalmer Fort, also known as ‘Sonar Quila’, is one of the most visited places in Rajasthan during the peak season. Built in the year 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal, it is a massive yellow sandstone fortification. The fort has served as a backdrop for several battles and wars. The honey-gold color of the fort during sunset justifies the name “Sonar Quila” and is undoubtedly a golden marvel. The architectural design is one of the fine examples of the rich heritage in India. Get the amazing panoramic view of Jaisalmer city from cannon point in the fort.
It if one of the largest and most renowned forts in the world, and a UNESCO World Heritage site too.

Khandar Fort - an ancient fort at Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan
View of Khandar Fort an ancient fort located at Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan.
Khandar Fort is very ancient fort located in Khandar Tehsil, Sawai Madhopur district, Rajasthan, India. This fort is on the boundary of Ranthambore National Park. The fort has three big entrances, but they are damaged.
Located on top of a strategic vertical hill, the Khandar Fort in Sawai Madhopur could never come under an easy attack and thus was truly regarded as invincible and was a favorite of many dynasties in India. It is also said that king of this fort never lost in war. This fort also tells some historical stories by the damaged walls and gates.
The fort was long ruled by the Sisodia kings of Mewar after which it was taken over by the Mughals for a short while before coming under the direct control of the Maharajas of Jaipur in the 18th century.
This fort also belonged to Bargujar Kings and was attacked by Allaudin Khilji. It is very near to the rivers as Chambal & Banas.
There are seven temples within the fort. There is an old Jain temple which displays an exquisite work of carved rock idols of Jain Gurus. There is also a Hanuman temple with a single stone idol of Lord Hanuman with a demon under its feet. The other temples at the Khandar Fort are Chaturbhuja Temple, Gobind Devji Temple, Jagatpalji Temple, and Jayanti Mata Temple. Chaturbhuja Temple houses an impressive idol of the four armed God. An annual fair is held at the Jayanti Mata Temple. There is also the beautiful Rani Temple of the Khandar Fort located on top of the highest platform of the fort and perhaps the most magnificent part of the Fort. There are a lot of damaged sculptures here.
Other attractions at the Khandar Fort are the two huge water tanks of Ramkunda and Laxmankunda . Seven small ponds are also there but due to lack of maintenance, only four ponds are clearly visible. Tigers, leopards, and many other wild animals can be easily seen in the fort. There is Maa Jayanti And Bramani's temple in the fort and the place of Jind Baba is also famous . Mr. Bharat Lal Dwivedi, head of a Committee named as Jind Baba Seva Samiti Khandar, is working hard for the development of the esteemed temple of goddess Jayanti.
