2005 07 02 Mammoth Lakes Day 2 Fish Hatchery & Hot Creek
Mammoth Lakes Hot creek Geological Site
As Mammoth Creek leaves the Sierra and flows east into the Long Valley Caldera it is joined by warmer water from geothermal springs at the Hot Creek State Fish Hatchery. From this confluence the stream is named Hot Creek, though its water temperature seldom exceeds 68 °F (20 °C) until it reaches Hot Creek Gorge, 8 miles (13 km) east of Mammoth Lakes.[3] In the Hot Creek Gorge, numerous hot springs near and in the stream bed add hot water into the stream. Its mouth is at the confluence with the Owens River upstream from Crowley Lake.

Hot Creek Chris Farrar Discusses Closing of Pools 2006
-- for everything Mammoth.
Chris Farrar scientist for the USGS describes the increased activity at Hot Creek during the summer of 2006. Small geysers from underground geothermal heated water rose high above the creeks surface. Hot Creek is located in The Long Valley Caldera near the Mono Basin near the Resurgent Dome in Mono County near Mammoth Lakes California. Hot Creek is a favorite place to soak sore muscles after climbing in Yosemite or Rock Creek or the Owens river Gorge. Visitors from around the world have enjoyed Hot Creeks warm waters. But, in early June, 2006 the USFS decided to close the creek to swimming. Germans, Japanese, Scandinavians, Latins, people of all races would come to Hot Creek to enjoy a soak. Hot Creek would bring everyone down to the same level and neutralize any differences one may have with each other. Hot Creek is also a great place to fly fish. Catch and release only. Guide services out of Mammoth are available. The Troutfitter has experienced guides. Contact Kent Rianda. Fishermen and women are still allowed to wade in the creek. Why shouldn't we be able to swim? Would you like to see Hot Creek re-opened for swimming? For more information contact the United States Forest Service Mammoth Ranger District today.

Convict Lake, Sierra Nevada, California [1080p HD]
Beautiful Convict Lake, located in the Sherwin Range of the Sierra Nevada in California, United States of America.
It is known for its fishing and the dramatic mountains (including Mount Morrison) that surround the lake. Its surface lies at an elevation of 7,850 ft (2,393 m).
The lake was named after an incident on September 23, 1871, where a group of convicts escaped from prison in Carson City. A posse, from Benton, led by Deputy Sheriff George Hightower, encountered the convicts near the head of what is now Convict Creek. Posse member Robert Morrison, a Benton merchant and Wells Fargo Agent, was killed in the encounter, and Mount Morrison was named after him. It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names.
Convict Lake is known for its fishing, including Rainbow trout, German brown trout, and a species of sucker fish. Due to the high demand of fishing in the lake and stream, the lake is stocked once a week during the summer with rainbow trout, supplied by nearby hatcheries. There is a trail for hiking around the lake and a trail that connects the lake to the Sierra Crest.
Go out and enjoy the High Sierra's!
