Arkansas – Hot Springs National Park – Ouachita National Forest - Hot Springs Area RV Camping
Arkansas – Hot Springs National Park – Ouachita National Forest - Hot Springs Area RV Camping
Arkansas – Hot Springs National Park – Ouachita National Forest - Hot Springs Area RV Camping describes our visit to Hot Springs, downtown Hot Springs, Hot Springs National Park in Hot Springs Arkansas, and the campgrounds we stayed at in Ouachita National Forest. We started at Crystal Springs campground in Ouachita National Forest then moved to Charlton Campground in Ouachita National Forest. The Charlton Campground in Ouachita National Forest is run by the National Forest Service. Charlton Campground in Ouachita National Forest is just 20 miles west of Hot Springs Ark.
As shown on the video, the Two Tired Teachers began the Arkansas – Hot Springs National Park – Ouachita National Forest leg of their trip with a visit to Pinnacle State Park in Little Rock. The park is a day use park It has over 15 miles of trails including 7 miles of challenging mountain bike trails.
Crystal Springs US Army Corps of Engineers Campground is located on Ouachita Lake in the Ouachita National Forest. It's a rather small campground with swimming, fishing, boating, and a trail. A number of sites have water and electric hookups.
Hot Springs, as stated in the video is about 17 miles from Cystal Springs US Army Corps of Engineers Campground. The main attraction is the Hot Springs National Park. If you visit, you will probably want to see the tower. The road to the tower is a narrow, one way road full of twists and turns. Vehicles over 30' long aren't permitted on the tower road. Hot Springs National Park offers picnic tables and look outs over the city on the way to the tower.
The visitors center at Hot Springs National Park is located in the Fordyce Bathhouse on Bathhouse Row in downtown Hot Springs. Twenty-three of the rooms have been restored to the splendor they had in their early years, over a century ago. The bathhouse/visitors center is full of marble and stained glass, making it easy to imagine life there a hundred years ago.
The Hot Springs National Park has both hot springs and cool springs. As explained in the video, the hot springs are about 140 degrees while the cool springs make for nice drinking water. Four spots in Hot Springs National Park have fountains where guests and locals can fill bottles with water from the springs. The water is regularly tested and is safe to drink although the park service doesn't offer any opinion about its medicinal qualities.
The Grand Promenade was another stop for the Two Tired Teachers. It is a garden located behind the visitors center of Hot Springs National Park. The magnolia trees were in bloom and the air was scented with their fragrance. Along the promenade were green boxes with the names of the springs. Those are there to keep the springs from becoming contaminated.
Deeper into the Ouachita National Forest are several campgrounds within 20 miles of Hot Springs National Park. One of those campgrounds in the Ouachita National Forest is. Charlton, a campground and day use area. Charlton has tent sites, water and electric sites, full hookup sites, and group sites. It is surrounded by pines and hardwoods found in the Ouachita National Forest.
Camping near Hot Springs is wonderful. We found much RV camping near Hot Springs. Hot Springs RV camping is great because you are surrounded by the forest.
The Two Tired Teachers took this amazing trip in June of 2017.

Historic Hot Springs - A National Park Within An Arkansas Town
No trip through Hot Springs is complete without stopping in at Hot Springs National National Park, the only National Park located within the city limits of a community. While here you have to travel down bath house row and catch a bit of the history of the historic community and touching the healing waters themselves. With some 27 miles of trails surrounding the park you will find yourself exploring the mountains with ease and beauty.
I found this trip and the beauty which abounded most exciting. The bathhouse Visitor Center was quite unique in itself as I learned a lot more about the history of the community through one of its most valuable assets.
