History
Hosting some of the oldest shrines and temples in all of Japan, the roots of Japanese history are very much appreciated here. You can witness a Great Buddha Hall in the world’s largest wooden building here in Nara leaving a truly memorable experience.
Tamaki Shrine
Part of the Okugakemichi trail pilgrimage; Tamaki Shrine is located on the top of Tamaki Mountain. Most notably famous for its cedar trees that surround the complex, Tamaki was designated as the inner sanctuary for the three Kumano Shrines.
Todai-Ji
Literally meaning “Great Eastern Temple”, Todaiji is one of Japan’s most historically famous landmarks. It received a lot of recognition and influence in the 800’s hosting one of Japan’s largest bronze Buddha statues in the world’s largest wooden building.
Toshodai-ji
Founded by a Chinese priest, Toshodai-ji was a training facility for priests in order to improve Japanese Buddhism. His teachings played a big part in the growth of the religion in the 800’s.
Horyu-ji
Founded by one of the initial promoters of the Buddhism religion, Horyu-ji Temple has maintained some of the world’s oldest wooden architecture designated as a World Heritage Site in 1993.
Kasuga-Taisha
Nara’s most celebrated shrine, Kasuga Taisha is located on the eastern side of Nara Park. This shrine was dedicated to the deity responsible for the protection of the city.
Nature
The nature seen in Nara is absolutely flawless. Unscathed through time, Nara makes for a great getaway from its surrounding prefectures. Whether you are visiting for a day-trip or an extended period of time, Nara can make for quite the adventure. Head to Nara Park and witness a field full of hungry deer. You can buy food at the nearby food stands to feed them if you are so inclined. Behind Nara Park, you can get a great view of the city from Mount Wakakusayama leaving for quite the breathtaking experience.
Head south out of the main area of Nara Prefecture towatds the Dorogawa Onsen Town and you can witness some gorgeous nature in the Torokyo Gorge, Sasano Falls, Mitarai Valley and Menfudo Limestone Cave.

NARA PARK DEER TEMPLES AND SHRINES | Nara Japan | Will Wanders Travel Vlog
Nara is a historic part of Japan. Once the capital city, it is now famous for the Nara Deer Park. Nara Deer are sacred... AND tame! If you are anywhere near Kyoto or Osaka then if I was a Japan Travel Guide I would suggest you take a day trip here. Within the Nara Deer Park are several other Japan Tourist Attractions, mostly shrines and temples. Check out Kasuga Taisha, Nandaimon Gate, Todaiji Temple, the Five Story Pagoda, Kofukuji Temple and of course enjoy the deer all along the way. Oh yes, and the biggest buddha in the world!
It is possible to do Nara in one day but you will want at least two in my opinion to see all the nara temples properly.
You never have to worry about what to do in Nara - it is full of tourist attractions!

Nihon-Ji Temple - Chiba - 日本寺 - 4K Ultra HD
Located in Chiba prefecture on the Boso peninsula by Tokyo bay and roughly facing Yokohama, Mount Nokogiri, or in Japanese Nokogiriyama, is a 330m tall mountain featuring the Nihon-ji Temple (Nihonji). Established over 1,300 years ago, Nihon-Ji Temple is actually one of Kanto area’ oldest temples and features many important Japanese cultural artifacts, including the 30m tall carving of Hyaku-Shaku Kanon, depicting the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy (1966), 1,500 statues of Buddhist disciples (rakan) and finally, the crown jewel of Nihon-Ji, the 31m tall Daibutsu (Big Buddha) carved in 1780 from the mountain itself.

Nara Day Trip Part 5 - Nara, Japan (奈良公園) | Travel Video (4K)
Nara is the capital of Japan’s Nara Prefecture, in south-central Honshu. The city has significant temples and artwork dating to the 8th century, when it was Japan’s capital. Deer roam in Nara Park, site of Tōdai-ji temple. Daibutsu, Tōdai-ji's 15m-high bronze Buddha, is displayed in a large wooden hall. On the park's east side is the Shinto shrine Kasuga Taisha, which dates to 768 A.D. and more than 3,000 lanterns.

JAPAN Part 3 Takayama a Beautiful City in Gifu Prefecture Central Honshu
Music - Komputo, Hanagoyomi, Cast of Pods & Ferris Wheel , Courtesy of YouTube Music Library.
So, here we have Part 3 of our Japanese holiday tour of Central Honshu. We take the Shinkansen, and The bullet train does not disappoint! What a fantastic way to travel, this was a big thrill for me!
On arrival in Takayama, a city 1900ft in the hills, we head for dinner in a traditional Japanese restaurant - YUM!
Next day we have a walking tour of Takayama's hi-lights. This place is a photographers paradise, so I'm snapping away like crazy. The buildings are beautiful and so atmospheric and well, so Japanese! Sadly by early afternoon, it starts to rain again, but I keep on shooting, often under an umbrella! We enter the Festival Float museum, but have missed the the spectacular procession by about 10 days sadly!
Anyway, Part 4 will feature the Gassho-style houses of Shirakawa-go, a Unesco World Heritage Site. However, the weather, once again, is not looking good!

Kamakura (Japan) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kamakura in Japan.
South of Tokyo, on the island Honshu, is the seaport of Kamakura, Japan’s ancient seat of government and is where Shogun Yoritomo, of the Minamoto Clan, left the courtly life of Kyoto in 1192 and built numerous temples and shrines. The Tokei Ji Temple was where women lived as nuns following the death of their husband. The teaching of Zen, imported from China, filled large areas of both cultural and social life. A bridge over a pond leads to the Jochi-Ji Temple that was built within a cypress forest and is one of the five famous temples of Kamakura. Founded in 1282, the Engaku-Ji Monastery teaches the priesthood right up to the present day. Its buildings are typical of Zen design, such as the abbot's residence, sub-temples and tea houses. Within the main hall, Hokan Shaka Nyorai is worshipped. In Japan, the historic Buddha is either seated, standing or prone. Kencho-Ji is the most important of the five Zen monasteries of Kamakura and has been conserved in its original form and function. The second oldest bell in the city, cast in 1255, is one of the temple’s treasures. The buildings are located within a narrow valley, surrounded by wooded slopes where the silence of Zen is palpable. The decline of the region’s rulers was accompanied by violent struggles during which the city was largely destroyed and subsequently returned to being a fishing village.

Japan Travel: Kinpusenji Temple Japan’s second largest wooden structure, Nara19
Kinpusenji Temple is the leading temple in Yoshino and is the main Shugendo temple of great significance. Shugendo is a religion based on mountain worship that combines tenets of both Buddhism and Shinto. The temple is listed as the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Yoshino, and its main hall, Zao-do Hall with the height of 34 meter, is said to be Japan's second largest wooden structure only behind Nara's Todaiji Temple.
Three, blue skinned statues of Zao Gongen stand inside the Zao-do Hall, the fierce looking deity to protect the sacred mountains of the Yoshino area. Zao Gongen is one of the most important deities in Shugendo, embodying the past, present and future Buddha. The temple's three statues have been standing for 1300 years, measures up to as tall as seven meters and each represent one of these three facets.
Kinpusenji Temple occasionally holds Shugendo workshops, which highlight feats of physical and mental endurance of the elements, such as hanging off cliffs or sitting under waterfalls, which Shugendo teaches to be a path to enlightenment. Also, the pilgrimage trail starts at the temple to the sacred Mount Omine.
