Eastside Distilling Portland Oregon
Come to Distillery row for a day of tasting one of Oregons locally produced products.
IBTV Inside Peek: Old Sugar Distillery Madison, WI
This week IBTV visits the Old Sugar Distillery on Madison's near east side. Named after an old sugar factory on Madison's east side, the distillery has created a range of small-batch spirits distilled and flavored with Wisconsin ingredients. Products include Americanaki Ouzo, Grappa, Cane & Abe Freshwater Rum, Queen Jennie Whiskey, and Old Sugar Factory Honey Liqueur. The distillery is capitalizing on new state laws that allow the company to have a retail location at its distillery on Main Street. You can visit the distillery for a taste test, tour of the site, and to enjoy a wide range of unique cocktails created with its products. You can also find its products at liquor stores, bars, and restaurants throughout Wisconsin and elsewhere in the United States. The distillery is one of a growing number of craft distilleries in the country, including Wisconsin's five craft distillers, which have recently joined together to form the Wisconsin Distillers Association.
Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman Aviation Gin Portland Oregon Ad With X-Men Cartoon Theme
#AviationGin #Deadpool #Wolverine
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman come together ( kind of ) to advertise Aviation American Gin Portland Oregon.
Aviation American Gin, also known as Aviation Gin, is a brand of distilled spirit first produced in Portland, Oregon, by founders Christian Krogstad and Ryan Magarian in 2006. It is classified as an American dry gin, meaning the flavor profile is less juniper-forward. It is produced by House Spirits Distillery. The recipe proportions are not made public, but the seven botanicals used during distillation for flavoring are: juniper, lavender, sweet and bitter orange peel, cardamom, coriander, Indian sarsaparilla, and anise seed. Aviation American Gin is twice pot distilled and bottled at 84 proof (42% alcohol). It is currently distributed nationwide in the United States and in 15 different countries, including; Canada, Spain, U.K., Ireland, France, Russia, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Australia. It was originally bottled in a wine bottle with a blue label. The new bottle looks like a flask, and is also reminiscent of the Art Deco period, with a black label and a silver cap.
House Spirits Distillery sold the brand to Davos Brands, LLC, of New York in 2016, but House Spirits continues to be the gin's distiller, with production in Portland, Oregon.

The Manual Spirit Awards 2019: The Best Craft Liquor Made in America
Full Article Series:
In the United States, we are truly blessed because there are well over 1,000 distilleries in active operation. That means thousands of people from all backgrounds are pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into crafting spirits for us, the average drinkers, to enjoy. With so many distilleries, we are sure of one thing: the U.S. makes some damn delicious potent potables.
Those potables are the reason why The Manual created our first-ever Spirit Awards in 2018 and why we are back this year with our second edition of The Manual Spirit Awards. We want to raise a glass to the people who bust their butts so we can have a good time, and make sure they are recognized for their efforts. The Manual Spirit Awards highlight the best craft liquor made in America.
For this year’s awards, we’re looking at eight categories: Bourbon, Single Malt Whiskey, Rye Whiskey, Gin, Vodka, Unaged Rum, Aged Rum, and Liqueur. These categories, we feel, represent the widest swath of American-made spirits. We spent months tasting candidates across the country, from large craft distilleries to mom-and-pop operations discovered during our travels. From those, we narrowed it down to three finalists in each category. Did we try every spirit produced in 2019? No, not by a long shot, sadly. But we promise we tried our very best.
The winners were chosen via a blind tasting, during which they were judged on aroma, palate, and finish. Our focus on smaller craft producers in the U.S. allowed us to highlight spirits that you may not have tried yet. What you will find in The Manual Spirit Awards is a spirited look at the best booze produced in the United States. Are you going to agree with us every time? Probably not. These selections are based on how our panel tasted on a particular day at a particular time. But that is the joy of a spirit. One day, it might taste one way; the next, it may give the drinker an entirely new experience. Cheers to your next drink and to American craft spirits.

Possible Downtown Distillery
The Naperville Liquor Commission recently heard from two locals about possibly bringing a craft spirit distillery to town - an idea that was greeted with enthusiasm.
The project includes the yet-to-be-named distillery, a tasting room, and retail space to sell bottled product.
“From a business model it looks more like a business than a bar. Especially if we’re talking about selling products outside of Naperville. The sales tax revenues should be - looking at this from a business stand point should actually be really good for the City of Naperville I would think, as another plus,” commented Commissioner Chuck Maher.
As for location- possibilities pitched included Old Nichols Library as well as some of the lighter industrial areas of town.
“Obviously we have a preference for being closer to the downtown area because the idea is to make this really a walking destination, something that could be included in the restaurant scene. We don’t have a kitchen and we don’t plan to have a kitchen or a restaurant, at least not within the first few years of operation,” explained Derek Krauss, a presenter of the craft distillery concept.
It was determined that the class p license needed for the distillery currently only includes breweries in its language. The commission approved of the conceptual distillery project and will look into modifying the license to move it forward.
Also of note at the meeting, a retailer brought his CBD, or cannabidiol, business to the commission.
CBD commonly comes as pain relief oil and is made from hemp plants.
David Palatnik hopes to open his CBD and Kratom business in town, after having success in Chicago, Dallas, and St. Louis.
“I’d be receptive of proceeding cautiously with exploration here,” said Commissioner Mitch Stauffer. “Knowing that you have a bit of an uphill battle. I think what I’m hearing, is Kratom is fundamentally different in our minds than perhaps some of the hemp oils.”
Palatnik said he’d move forward with the business even if he was only approved to sell CBD, however the commission wanted to learn more about both it and Kratom.
Ultimately the discussion was tabled to the next commission meeting for more information to be gathered about the products. The commission also wants to hear feedback from local organizations like 360 Youth Services and the school districts.
The next liquor commission meeting is slated for July 5.

Is ethanol a waste of energy? Why would anyone take corn to turn it into fuel? Are there other forms of ethanol or alcohol that actually are sustainable? Is this something you could do in your backyard? Check out this video with expert David Blume.
A really cool side note... Before the taped interview with David, I was chatting with him about who was distilling alcohol these days. He told me years ago, it used to only be African villages and die-hard survivalists in Idaho who wanted to drive their four-wheelers after the crash. David told me that today, there is a growing interest in distilling fuel by seasoned business people and entrepreneurs who recognize the niche that is opening up with higher costs of petroleum.

WHISKEY ELEMENTS: How do they work?
This scribe video explains the history of whiskey, how whiskey is made, the history of the oak wood barrel, how capillary action works, and how to customize your own whiskey at home.
Whiskey Elements encourages individuals to be just that - individual - by enhancing, altering, flavoring or customizing your favorite whiskey. These small sticks of oak expedite the aging process through a method Time & Oak (timeandoak.com), the makers of Whiskey Elements, call “accelerated transpiration through capillary action.” Place one stick in a fifth of whiskey or two sticks in a half-gallon, wait 24 hours, and the appearance and composition changes.Tests conducted by Portland State University chemists confirm that Whiskey Elements significantly reduced the amounts of harsh chemicals found in low-grade whiskey, a virtual transformation.

5 Reasons Irish Whiskey Is Booming
5 reasons Irish whiskey is booming
According to the Irish Whiskey Association combined sales of irish whiskey are growing at a rate of 250k bottles a week. This year will be the first year in over 100 years that Irish whiskey sales globally will top 10 million cases. 90 million liters of whiskey will flow down the throats of lucky drinkers around the world. That’s enough whiskey to…..well….to have a good time! In this video we’ll explore the reasons behind this growth.
I’m Barry Chandler, welcome to episode number 9 of stories and sips, slowly chipping away at the wall that is bourbon and scotch so that Irish Whiskey can take its rightful place as the most demanded whiskey in the world.
Beside me is the lovely Powers Signature reserve pot still whiskey and 5is is the first sip I’ve had of this in more 2years. I can’t get it in Ohio but it’s worth a drive elsewhere,
Four years ago, Ireland had just four distilleries producing whiskey Today there are 18, and it’s expected there will 30 by 2020 all distilling the world’s fastest growing spirit. So is it the growth in the number of distilleries that is responsible for the increased global demand or are they the product? The answer is a little of both really.
One distillery has been producing the liquid that is responsible for 85% of Irish whiskey sales around the world - and that is Midleton distillery with their old-reliable Jameson accounting for 65% of all irish whiskey sold last year and then you have Tullamore Dew and Paddy though not owned by Irish Distillers, their liquid is also produced currently at Midleton.
But Midleton and other distilleries are only producing what they are relatively sure they will sell and their supply is designed to meet demand. So what has generated this demand? I’ve got 5 suggestions for the growth.
----
Stories & Sips exists to introduce current and potential whiskey fans in the United States to the real Ireland and its incredible Irish whiskeys, converting bourbon, scotch and rye drinkers to the often under-appreciated gold that is Irish whiskey.
Our vision is for Ireland to become the world leader in whiskey tourism. The Irish whiskey product has reached an enviable level of quality and is earning deserved worldwide attention. The growth in the number of distilleries and visitor centers offers Ireland a unique opportunity to create a whiskey tourism industry that is the envy of whiskey-producing countries around the world. At Stories & Sips, we intend to do our part.
We will do this by connecting fans emotionally to Ireland and its whiskeys. Through stories, in-person whiskey tastings and trips to Ireland, we’ll help whiskey fans engage deeply with the people and product of our country so that they become lifelong fans, consumers and evangelists.

Clear Creek Distillery Apple Brandy Review - On the Rocks
Jorel Hughes and Anthony Schultz review their second On the Rocks brandy, Clear Creek Distillery Apple Brandy.
Clear Creek Distillery is a fairly 'new' distillery based out of Portland, Oregon with humble beginnings in the 1986 orchard industry. Oregon is known for being abundant in various fruit crops, so founder Stephen McCarthy decided to open his own doors and put his orchards to good use in a brandy distillery!
The most famous product (and first!) was their eau de vie, which is a clear fruit brandy. However, since then they have branched out to several other types and fruit flavored brandies, such as the aforementioned Apple Brandy.
Unique for its time, Clear Creek Distillery is known as one of the finest eau de vie distilleries in the world and continues to receive high marks within the international community.
As a first for the On the Rocks team, Jorel and Anthony dive headlong into the nuanced flavorings of their Portland neighbor's finest brandy.

Kombucha Beer The New Craft Drink
Kombucha Beer The New Craft Drink.
For those of you who aren't plaid-clad Brooklynites, I will give you access on a mystery: Booch is exploding. Furthermore, by booch I mean kombucha, the adoration it-or-despise it fizzy aged tea that is turned into the wellbeing geek's adaptation of specialty brew.
A few eateries like Chipotle in Texas are serving booch on tap, while bars in L.A. what's more, New York City are shaking up kombucha-injected mixed drinks. Even better, booch that is really hooch: Booch bottling works like the New York City-based Beyond Kombucha and Michigan's Unity Vibration are making genuine jazzed up lager out of kombucha. Solidarity even blends a without gluten Triple Goddess brew by maturing kombucha with natural dried jumps and an assortment of crisp organic products.
The booch commotion doesn't end there: Packaged items are getting in on the pattern, as well, manifested by kombucha sorbet and the as of late propelled Reed's Culture Club Coffee Kombucha, which utilizes an espresso base rather than tea and poses a flavor like inconspicuously sweet and fizzy icy blend. Target likewise began conveying Live Kombucha Soda in flavors that copy brands like Dr. Pepper at 1,500 of its stores last September.
One cool thing about kombucha is that it depends on an exceptionally adaptable maturation innovation, says Hannah Crum, fellow benefactor of Kombucha Brewers International, the industry's first exchange gathering. It can be connected to a wide range of substrates. Fundamentally, you simply include a starter culture of microorganisms and yeast (called a SCOBY, or cooperative state of microbes and yeast) to a refreshment—regularly tea, however not generally—with a touch of sugar or natural product squeeze and let it sit for no less than seven days.
Past lager and the other out of control new booch items, Crum likewise anticipates that the business will extend in another path: Following in the strides of specialty brew, kombucha tourism has hit. A few distilleries are really beginning to open up taverns and give visits. notwithstanding the two bottling works said over, these incorporate Humm Kombucha in Bend, Oregon, and Urban Farm Fermentory in Portland, Maine.
Prepared to tap the pattern? Simply remember a couple of things to keep before you begin chugging, says Crum. While customary kombucha is normally low in sugar (e.g. GT's Enlightened Original Raw Kombucha has 2 g for each 8 oz), a few organizations are raising the sweet factor with natural product squeezes or pure sweetener to speak to standard tastes. There are additionally a couple of rack stable kombuchas entering the market, which might not have an indistinguishable normally happening probiotics or B vitamins from crude unpasteurized assortments.
