Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land opening
Grand opening of the Houston Museum of Natural Science at Sugar Land. Science on a Sphere is the centerpiece of the exhibit. Below the sphere is a T. Rex named Stan. Science on a Sphere is essentially a projection of the surface of earth and other planets onto a globe. I think of this globe as having the same role as the Foucault Pendulum in the HMNS at Hermann Park. It makes as aware of Earth's place in the solar system. Besides Earth sciences and Paleontology, many other themes are similar between Sugar Land and Hermann Park, including the mineral displays and the frog aquariums, although at HMNS Hermann, you would have to pay extra to get inside The Cockrell Butterfly Center to see frogs and insects.
The new museum used to be the Central State Prison Farm No. 2 (Two Camp), a prison designed to be self-sufficient. The museum is still a work in progress though.
The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Exhibition also premiered at this new museum. There was a $10 parking fee on that day only, and as a museum member, an additional $2 got you in the exhibit.

Day 1 - We landed in Houston, Texas on July 5, 2017!! We arrived in the morning and had plenty of time to stop at the Houston Museum of Natural Science before checking into our hotel. We had so much fun exploring some of the exhibits: the Morian Hall of Paleontology which included real dinosaur bones, the Hall of Ancient Egypt with real mummies and artifacts, the John P. McGovern Hall of The Americas, and the different Wildlife dioramas.
