China - Chongqing & Xi'an
We ended our Yangtze River cruise in Chongqing (you probably have heard it called ChunKing) where we visited the zoo to see Pandas and other animals. The Pandas are a national treasure. We also visited the Stillwell museum. Stillwell was the commander of the famous Flying Tigers squadron who helped the Chinese fight off the invasion by Japan so he is a hero. He chose to live in Chongqing after fighting there and you will see some photos of his home high above the river. After Chongqing another flight took us to Xi'an, the city near the site of the famous Terracotta Warriors. One of the oldest cities in Chinese history, Xi'an is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of Ancient China because it has been the capital (under various names) of some of the most important dynasties in Chinese history. Discovered in the spring of 1974 in the eastern suburbs of Xian by a farmer digging a well, the burial site of emperors is still being excavated by archaeologists.
Tomb of Southern Song Dynasty unearthed in east China, reveal a bulk of exquisite silk clothes
Tomb of Southern Song Dynasty unearthed in east China, reveal a bulk of exquisite silk clothes
Over five dozen precious relics inside a tomb that is believed to have been built during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) has been unearthed in Huangyan, a district in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province.
The tomb, which could date back over 800 years, has been confirmed to belong to Zhao Boyun, the seventh descendant of Emperor Taizu of the Song Dynasty.
A local villager digging a foundation for a house on May 2 had the rare fortune to stumble upon this ancient tomb and reported his find to the local authorities.
Archaeologists have since excavated the tomb and after nearly a month of hard work, 66 precious cultural relics were finally disclosed to the world, with over 60 relics being silk clothing, including pants, socks, shoes, and accessories.
The clothing also show a variety of pattern themes, including flowers, birds, cranes, and miscellaneous treasure.
According to Zhou Yang, a member of the National Museum of China, it could be seen as an example of what Imperial clan members wore in general life and how people dressed 800 years ago.
The tomb provides important clues to prove the coastal areas have been involved in maritime silk trade and also adds new research material for the study of history of Chinese silk art, said expert.

STORYLINE:
Earthquake survivors in China's Wenchuan County are trying to rebuild their lives, a week after the 7.9 magnitude quake devastated the region.
Zhang Xue Jin's home collapsed in the small village of Shuimo.
She lost one of her two sons and as well as her nephew.
I was asking them to come out because there was the earthquake. I was afraid that they might be stuck inside a building and dead, she said.
At that time, one of my sons was at the internet cafe installing windows. But finally I realise that my son and my nephew died in the internet cafe, she added.
Zhang Xue now shares a tent with four families from the same area. In total, 19 people for a tent of four metres by two (12 feet by 6 feet).
Survivors have started to sift through the rubble, salvaging any useful items they can.
AP Television footage showed an old man carrying a large wooden board.
Meanwhile, injured survivors at Chengdu's main hospital held hope for a better future.
Sixty-four-year-old Sun Xuguang was rescued from his house in the town of Mienzhu.
Sun is being treated for light injuries, and said he is looking forward to returning home and working on the farm with his brother.
I also get some cash from the government, and I want to use it to rebuild my house, he added.
Hua Chi hospital has been struggling to cope with the thousands of earthquake victims needing treatment from various hard-hit areas.
This is making a strong impact on our operation and exceeding our daily capabilities, said emergency ward doctor, Hi Qing.
China's government said the confirmed death toll has risen to 34,073.

Datong Great Wall
About 400km west of Beijing, the ancient Datong was one of the Nine Frontier Important Towns in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), maintaining the 335km Great Wall within Datong and defending against the Mongol raiders. Datong Great Wall was an important part of the Wall's central section from the Yellow River to the passes leading to Beijing, vital to the defense of both central China and Beijing.
