Huntly is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, formerly known as Milton of Strathbogie or simply Strathbogie. It had a population of 4,460 in 2004 and is the site of Huntly Castle. Its neighbouring settlements include Keith and Rothiemay. Both Huntly and the surrounding district of Gordon are named for a town and family that originated in the Border country.
Huntly is the historic home of the Gordon Highlanders regiment which traditionally recruited throughout the North-East of Scotland. Huntly has a primary school (Gordon Primary) and a secondary school (The Gordon Schools) beside Huntly Castle. There is an active cultural centre called Deveron Arts.
It is the home of the Deans bakers, which produce shortbread biscuits. In November 2007, Deans of Huntly opened their new visitor centre. There is also a falconry centre just outside the town which does flying displays in their visitor centre during the season between April and October.
There is salmon and trout fishing on the Rivers Deveron and Bogie, which are administered by the River Deveron Salmon Fisheries Board. Its other principal outdoor activities include golf, Nordic Skiing in Clashindarroch Forest, walking, mountain biking and Rugby. The local football team is Huntly F.C.. Nearby is the start point of Scotland's longest horse ride trail, Highland Horseback, which runs 200 miles to the West Coast. The Eastern Tigers martial arts have a kickboxing club in Huntly and currently use the Pensioners Hall and the Stewarts Hall. They have produced national and international champions.

1960s Motocross, Tuhikaramea: CZ in NZ: (1966, CZ, Jawa, DOT, Ariel, BSA, JAP)
The 1966* Hamilton Motor Cycle Club Miniature TT at Tuhikaramea captures the arrival of CZ in New Zealand motocross.
The #2 machine of Ross McLaren is one of two 250cc CZ twin-port bikes imported into the country by Laurie Summers Ltd, of Auckland. Graeme Stapleton successfully raced the other in the South Island.
These machines had a fibreglass petrol tank and an aluminium airbox, which indicates they were among the very first production 250cc CZ motocross machines to leave the factory.
The bikes were the forerunners of the many CZs which would be at the sharp-end of NZ competition from 1967 until the arrival of the (two-stroke) Japanese machines in the early 1970s.
Previously, the 500cc four-stroke JAP speedway engine - fitted in various frames - had been the bike to beat in NZ Miniature TT racing. However, the arrival of the 250cc CZs in 1966 enabled the two-strokes to challenge the old order, even when used in the 350cc and 500cc classes, especially on tighter tracks.
Jawa and CZ were rival Czechoslovakian companies, with Jawa initially having the edge over CZ until the 1966 CZ production model.
Also in this film is Doug McLaren's 1963 two-stroke 250cc Jawa (#3). Based on a Jawa road bike, the production Jawa scramblers were at least equal to the Greeves, DOT and Cottons from England. Jawa won many European Championships with their 250cc single and 350cc twin-cylinder (two-stroke) models.
A 'scratch man' was the fastest rider of the day, who started from the last row of bikes in the Handicap races.
Timekeepers attempted to work out the appropriate 'handicap' so that every rider in theory had an equal chance to win the race.
It was surprising how accurate the timekeepers could calculate the race result, with the scratch man usually taking the lead on the last lap. Such races were a great way to improve the speed and effort put in by all competitors!

Aboyne is a village on the edge of the Highlands in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on the River Dee, approximately 26 miles west of Aberdeen. It has a swimming pool at Aboyne Academy, all-weather tennis courts, a bowling green and golf course. Aboyne Castle and the Loch of Aboyne are nearby.
Aboyne has many businesses, including a supermarket (Co-op), two banks, several hairdressers, a butcher, a newsagent, an Indian restaurant and a post office. Originally, there was a railway station in the village, but it was closed on 18 June 1966. The station now contains some shops and the tunnel running under the village is now home to a firearms club. The market-day in Aboyne was known as Fèill Mhìcheil (Scottish Gaelic for Michael's Fair).
The locale was inhabited since very early times with the west wing of Aboyne Castle dated to 1671 AD. The siting of the castle itself is related to the limited number of the crossings of the Mounth of the Grampian Mountains to the south. In 1715 Aboyne was the scene of a tinchal, or great hunt, organised by John Erskine, sixth Earl of Mar, on 3 September, as a cover for the gathering of Jacobite nobles and lairds to discuss a planned Jacobite uprising. The uprising began three days later in Braemar.
Aboyne has a Temperate climate similar to all of the United Kingdom. Due to its high inland position in Scotland, Aboyne can record some very low temperatures and some high snowfall. In summer, when tourists visit, the number of people and vehicles increases dramatically. The Highland Games on the Village Green features in August. Aboyne is unusual in having The Green on which events are held, as the village was modelled by one of the first Marquesses of Huntly (inhabitants of Aboyne Castle) on a traditional English village with a green at the centre. The green includes facilities for rugby and football and a play park.
The British Royal Family are residents in nearby Balmoral Castle during the Summer. Outdoor pursuits include golf, walking, cycling, and gliding from the airfield just outside the village. Aboyne has become popular with gliding enthusiasts from Britain and Europe due to its suitable air currents (due to the surrounding terrain). The airfield has two parallel tarmac runways running east-west, a webcam and small weather-monitoring centre on its premises.
The close-by pass of Ballater is a rock-climbing area. The village of Dinnet is a few miles west and is the first being located inside the Cairngorms National Park. Walkers and cyclists can ascend Mount Keen by cycling as far as they can from Glen Tanar forest before walking to the summit. There are two schools, Aboyne Academy and a primary school. The academy has around 650 pupils, about a third from Aboyne itself, with the remaining two thirds from surrounding villages. The school has access to a full-size swimming pool and gym run by the adjacent Deeside Community Centre.

The Nelson Tower was built by the Forres Trafalgar Club in commemoration of Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The Tower was opened in 1812 and is the most northerly of all Britain’s Nelson monuments. Visitors may climb to the top of the octagonal tower and enjoy spectacular views across the Moray Firth.
