Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, North America
Memphis is a city located along the Mississippi River in the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Tennessee. With an estimated 2017 population of 652,236, it is the cultural and economic center of West Tennessee and the greater Mid-South region that includes portions of neighboring Arkansas and Mississippi. Memphis is the seat of Shelby County, the most populous county in Tennessee. Approximately 315 square miles in area, Memphis is one of the most expansive cities in the United States and features a wide variety of landscapes and distinct neighborhoods. Memphis was founded in 1819 as a planned city by a group of wealthy Americans including John Overton and future president Andrew Jackson. The plantation economy of the Antebellum South established Memphis as a major domestic trading post for African-American slave labor and agricultural commodities, especially cotton. Memphis seceded with Tennessee in 1861 during the American Civil War but was recaptured by Union forces in 1862 and occupied for the duration of the war. Slaves escaped to Union lines here and formed camps, where they started schools before the end of the war. Home to Tennessee's largest African-American population, Memphis played a prominent role in the American civil rights movement and was the site of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1968 assassination. The city now hosts the National Civil Rights Museum - a Smithsonian affiliate institution. Since the civil rights era, Memphis has forged forward to become one of the nation's leading commercial centers in transportation and logistics. The city's largest employer is the multinational courier corporation FedEx, which maintains its global air hub at Memphis International Airport, making it the second-busiest cargo airport in the world. Today, Memphis is a regional center for commerce, education, media, art, and entertainment. The city has long had a prominent music scene, with historic blues clubs on Beale Street originating the unique Memphis blues sound during early 20th century. The city's music has continued to be shaped by a mix of African-American and White influences across the blues, country, rock n' roll, soul, and hip-hop genres. Memphis barbecue has achieved international prominence due to the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, which attracts over 100,000 visitors to the city annually. Continued social and economic problems in the city have resulted in persistently high rates of crime and poverty in recent decades. Unlike most major American cities, Memphis is currently experiencing depopulation.
Memphis Prisoners Show How They Smuggle Contraband? shock Documentary
The Federal Correctional Institution, Memphis (FCI Memphis) is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates located in Memphis, Tennessee. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. It also includes a satellite prison camp for minimum-security male offenders
In early 2012, a joint investigation conducted by the FBI, the Bureau of Prisons, and the Department of Justice Inspector General found that several inmates at FCI Memphis, identified as Mark Evans, Vincent West, Tyrone Bryant, David Chambers and Larry Burse, operated a marijuana ring from FCI Memphis that spanned three states - Tennessee, Louisiana, and Texas - between September 2009 and May 2010. Evans received shipments of marijuana through the prison kitchen, brought into the prison by a corrupt food services employee, Debra Thompson. Evans or his fellow inmates would then distribute the marijuana to other prisoners for up to $900 an ounce. Inmates purchasing the marijuana would send money orders to the wife of Evans’ top marijuana wholesaler in Shreveport, Louisiana. The money orders were converted to cash and disbursed to Evans’ family members in Texas and also to two post office boxes in Memphis, Tennessee opened up at the behest of the corrupt food services employee.
This operation generated at least $85,000 during the course of the conspiracy. Evans, the ringleader of the operation, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute marijuana in August 2012 and faces up to ten years additional years of incarceration. Members of Evans’ family, his fellow inmate co-conspirators and the food services employee all agreed to plead guilty and testify in return for the possibility of reduced sentences
Prison fight: Super-max jail fight sends five inmates to hospital - TomoNews
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — Five inmates were injured during a massive fight at Illinois's Cook County Jail Friday around 1:30 p.m., in the jail's super-max division.
The mayhem began when an inmate standing near the center of the room punched another in the back of the head. Another inmate was then struck, causing his head to bounce off a cement pillar. Out cold, he remained on the floor until someone pulled him away.
Nearly 30 men in the general population room were present, but some clearly didn’t want to be involved and stayed close to the walls.
Guards eventually brought the situation under control with taser guns.
Several weapons were recovered including two that appear to have been made from inhaler parts. Officials are investigating how the inmates got hold of weapons.
Cara Smith, a spokeswoman for the jail, said five inmates were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries, including stab wounds, but none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Four of the five inmates were in jail on murder charges while the fifth person was charged with armed robbery.

U.S. NAVY TECHNICAL TRAINING SCHOOL MEMPHIS TENNESSEE RECRUITMENT FILM 81554
Made in the late 1960s by Wilding, this U.S. Navy recruiting film BENEATH NAVY WINGS begins with an anti-submarine warfare exercise. At :41, an enemy submarine is seen on the surface of the ocean. Above it flies a Lockheed P-2 Neptune, Maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft. The airplane prepares to make a sonobuoy run and successfully locates the hostile boat. Later, at 2:40, in the scenario that unfolds over the course of the film, the crew of the Neptune tries to return to base but suffers a mechanical issue -- their forward landing gear won't come down.
At 4:10, the crew makes a low pass over a U.S. Navy control tower (staffed by a female air traffic controller). The controller verifies that the forward landing gear won't come down. Then, in a scene reminiscent of Dr. Strangelove, a crew member braves the forward landing gear area to try to get the gear to go down.
The film then digresses to look at specialized Navy training schools throughout the USA, including the largest one in the nation, the Naval Technical Training School at Memphis, Tennessee. Here the specialists of the Naval air arm are trained. Various training is seen from fire fighting (9:01) to water survival (9:17), carrier deck safety (9:40), and aircraft operation (10:38). Academic and classroom book work are shown at 10:50. At 13:00, the film shows how Navy men also are suave and charming -- as one of the recruits gets to dance with the woman air traffic controller seen earlier (note the jukebox in the background).
At 14:36, work with machines is shown and mechanical training and engineering. At 15:00, an airman gets trained in how to use an ejection seat, and at 15:18 metal work and refrigeration systems.
At 16:30, plane hydraulic controls are examined by crew chief candidates. At 17:24 the instructor says, There are two laws in aviation: the law of Gravity and Murphy's Law. The Law of Gravity states that what goes up, must go down. Murphy's Law states that if an aircraft part can be installed incorrectly, someone will install it that way. At 19:30, electronic and radio systems are studied, and this is shown in further detail at 23:00. Various ratings are explained ... ordnanceman are shown at 23:00...fire control technician ... air controlman...bosun's mate...photographic intelligenceman...parachute rigger...aerographer's mate...photographer's mate...and more.
The Neptune aircraft shown in the film belongs to Patrol Squadron FIVE (VP-5). VP-5 is a long-lived maritime patrol squadron of the United States Navy. It is the second squadron to bear the VP-5 designation. VP-5 is the second oldest patrol squadron, the fourth oldest in the United States Navy, and the 33rd oldest squadron in the United States military. The P-2 Neptune was developed for the US Navy by Lockheed to replace the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura and PV-2 Harpoon, and was replaced in turn by the Lockheed P-3 Orion.

Tennessee v. Garner
Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U.S. 1 (1985), is a civil case in which the Supreme Court of the United States held that, under the Fourth Amendment, when a law enforcement officer is pursuing a fleeing suspect, the officer may not use deadly force to prevent escape unless the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others. It was found that use of deadly force to prevent escape is an unreasonable seizure under the Fourth Amendment, in the absence of probable cause that the fleeing suspect posed a physical danger.
