Idyllwild Park Campground in Idyllwild California is located less than 1 mile north of the quaint village of Idyllwild at the end of Riverside County Playground Road. (The paved access road is a continuation of the road!) Situated in a heavily forested setting the campsites are located along the hillside and natural topography.
The park has 202 acres of open space, mature forest, hiking trails, and a nature center. RV and tent camping in a wooded setting. Most sites are best suited to tent and car camping. RV sites are available but due to trees and navigation lengths over 30' will have tight access. (Riverside County Park)

I was down in Southern California in a little mountain resort town called Idyllwild. While I was there I took an impromptu hike in a place just outside of town called Idyllwild Park. When I started the hike, I had no destination in mind. I just wanted my boots to hit the dirt and rock and get outside for a few hours. After a short time on the trail I decided to hike to the Nature Center, then onto a place called Bedrock Mortars. The trails were really nice, but the trail markers and map they provided were very confusing. I ran into more than a handful of hikers, including myself trying to find the right trails to any of the destinations.
I did not go inside the nature center as they wanted to charge an additional fee on top of the parking fee already paid. So I decided to head back down the trail and back to the parking lot.
All in all this was a nice quick getaway hike for a couple hours, spending time out in the woods. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to kill a few hours out in the woods. The trail starts off steep, but does tapper off after about a half mile or so. So wear good hiking shoes.

IDYLLWILD Tahquitz Trail from Humber Park, Idyllwild, CA
Hiked this trail this weekend and it was a pretty spectacular time. Take a look at one of the impressive views that will awe you on your journey. We were on the trail for five hours. Take plenty of water at any time of the year and make sure you check in at the Ranger Station in Idyllwild Town Center to fill out a wilderness permit for the day and to buy your parking permit. The recent Cranston fire in Idyllwild brought me back to my camping trip in the Southern California mountains last summer... devastated to hear that so much of this beautiful area has burned ???? I had forgotten I had filmed this entire trip, so I put together the vlog I intended to edit last summer (but time got away from me...) to show some of the beauty of the area that has been effected by the fire.
If anyone knows if this campground, the Hurkey Creek Campground, made it through the fire please let me know. Praying for everyone in Idyllwild effected by these fires ????????

Idyllwild-Pine Cove
Idyllwild, Pine Cove, and Fern Valley are three adjacent unincorporated communities, of which Idyllwild is the largest, located in the San Jacinto Mountains in Riverside County, California, United States. The Idyllwild community also generally includes the hamlets of Mountain Center and Garner Valley, though individual residents embrace this association to varying degrees. Mile-high Idyllwild is a popular southern California mountain resort about one mile (1.6 km) in altitude. Idyllwild is flanked by two large and one smaller rock formation, Tahquitz Peak (with nearby Lily Rock) and Suicide Rock, which are famous in Southern California rock climbing circles, and Mt Atlas. One of Idyllwild's attractions is that it offers all four seasons, yet in winter is only an hour's drive down to the desert on the Pines to Palms Scenic Byway. It currently offers no skiing; thus the Hill has been minimally developed over the years and remains a center for hiking, mountain and rock climbing, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

PCT 2017 - We Arrive at the PCT Campsite in Idyllwild CA
Day 7 of my Northbound Pacific Crest Trail shakedown hike with my service dog puppy Jake. We finally arrived at Idyllwild, California. I was happy to buy an official PCT baseball cap, which I am wearing in the video. The PCT campsite was only a few dollars and there were all kinds of goodies to raid in the hiker boxes. I got a second set of trekking poles identical to the ones I own and use! I also got a nice SOL bivy from another hiker. Although there were only a handful of PCT hikers, including myself, they were all super nice and friendly. And I had finally escaped those biting flies!

Palm Springs to Idyllwild road trip in our lance camper and Ford F350 7.3 Diesel
It was the middle of summer in Palm Springs and we were hanging out in 115° weather and after a few days we couldn’t take it anymore so we drove up to Idlewild where the weather was a nice and cool 80° we stayed at a beautiful state campground and with my handicap discount it was only $20 a night for hook up. We rode our electric bike so many places that we would not normally see when driving a car.
