Cartoonist Paul Fernandes on Bangalore
listen to the extended audio interview with Paul Fernandes.
Cartoonist Paul Fernandes was born and brought up in Bangalore. He can't seem to break free from this pensioners' paradise. The city, specifically, the cantonment area of Bangalore is the central theme of all his cartoons and illustrations. Influenced by well-known Indian cartoonist Mario Miranda, Paul's cartoons are a homage to his beloved city and swinging '70s. With a sharp eye for details and humor, Paul has brilliantly managed to capture the essence of the garden city famous for its pubs, cinema halls and its famously cool climate.
Last year Paul launched his new gallery Apaulogy in Richards Park, Bangalore.

In Memoriam - Legendary Indian cartoonist remembered
Legendary Indian cartoonist remembered. On Sunday, December 11, illustrator and celebrity cartoon artist Mr. Mario Miranda passed away at the ripe age of 85. During his six-decade career, Mr. Miranda introduced to the world the culture and characters of his native Indian state Goa, becoming one of its greatest ambassadors through his illustrations. Readers eagerly looked forward to his works, which appeared in publications such as the Illustrated Weekly of India, The Times of India, the Economic Times, and several published books. Additionally, he became known for his illustrated travelogues of famous and faraway cities such as London, UK and Lisbon, Portugal. Mr. Miranda was also honored with India's highest civilian awards, including the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan. Goa state Chief Minister Digambar Kamat shared his condolences as he stated, Mario Miranda was one of the greatest artists the century ever produced...In his demise the country has lost a great son. No words can offer solace and fill the void.
We, too, convey our sincere sympathies to the family and admirers of Mr. Mario Miranda, whose legacy and love for illustration will forever be immortalized in his works. May his soul rest serenely in Heaven's love and light.

MOHAN Artist com Cartoonist - at TV9 News
MOHAN :
Mohan is an Indian wellknown journalist, Cartoonist and Artist.
Born from : Andhra Pradesh.
Country : India.
Brief History of Cartoons:
It is said that even dictators, leave alone democratic governments, fear the political cartoonist and his strokes. You can thus judge the freedom in a country by judging the freedom its cartoonist enjoys. But what is it about this apparently small sketch that makes it so adored by the public and abhorred by the powers that fail?
First of all, a cartoon is that rare creation that wraps art, portraiture and comment in the same picture. It appears funny but the message it delivers is hardly that.
When satire and wit blend with comic strokes, what emerges is a potent combination, a deadly potion, a cartoon that can hit governments harder than a thousand word editorial can. This is speaking for the political cartoonist. But even other cartoonists, no matter what genre they belong to, enjoy the same power and popularity. Under the guise of tickling the funny bone of the reader, what a cartoonist does is to mould public opinion, drawing his attention gently to the follies of our leaders, of the people around us, in short, of ourselves.
It is hard to imagine that it took mankind and evolution 16 whole centuries to arrive at this exalted art form. But then cartoon being a highly sophisticated, symbolic and subtle creation would surely have required an evolved mind to create and appreciate it. However, opinions differ. The ancient Greek caveman who drew pictorial representations on caves may be thought of as the world's first cartoonist, but the first ever documented evidence seems to point to the Italian brothers Annibale and Agostini Carrcci, who in 1590, produced a series of drawings called ritratini carichi (which mean loaded portraits). It is from this term that the word 'caricature' was born. Then on, there was no looking back for these pictorial delights
