Travel Vienna Austria 維也納 #4
We have arrived in Vienna, Austria after spending a few days in Czech Republic. Vienna is a very modern city mixed with a little bit of the Baroque style of architecture. Actually I'm never sure if they are Baroque or Gothic... sure it should be fairly easy to tell for a person who took a few art history classes in university but no I don't remember a thing... anyway the city is a lot more modern than I imagined before I came to Austria. Keep in mind that the downtown area is packed with tourists so it's better to always keep your bag in sight just in case. Everything about Austria is very artistic and you can see artworks everywhere you go so if you fantasize the idea of being immersed in art, Austria is definitely the place to be.

Wiener Börse Insights #6 - London Calling
With this Wiener Börse Insights series we accompany Christoph Boschan, CEO of the Vienna Stock Exchange, on his business trip to London. He was guest at CNBC´s morning show street signs and talked about Vienna Stock Exchange´s good positioning on the European Capital Market with three IPOs this year and the impact of Brexit on EU exchanges. Futhermore he had talks with some clients in the heart of the city, where the vast majority of our trading originates.
On 27 November 2019, the Austrian Capital Markets Day took place in London in cooperation with Raiffeisen Centrobank and the Vienna Stock Exchange. On the eve of the conference, the Austrian Ambassador hosted a reception at his residence for around 120 guests. And this event is so important because UK institutions have been among the largest group of investors on the Vienna Stock Exchange for the past 10 years.
The V-Log Wiener Börse Insights shows the work of the stock exchange behind the scenes. This in-house production is created on a mobile device

Vienna’s Mariahilfer Strasse, Now Filled with Pedestrian Joy
This little clip features one of my favorite streets (Mariahilfer Strasse) in one of my favorite cities (Vienna), with one of my favorite guides (Wolfgang Hoefler). In a short chat we learn how the Green Party’s initiative turned a formerly congested street into a peaceful, community-building pedestrian zone. We also get some insight into the dynamics of Austrian politics (where there is also thunder on the right), and even watch members of the no-longer-fearsome Austrian army licking ice cream cones.
While there are more stately and elegant streets in Vienna’s central district, the best opportunity to simply feel the pulse of workaday Viennese life is along Mariahilfer Strasse. (If you visit, an easy plan is to ride the U-3 subway line to the Zieglergasse stop, then stroll and browse your way downhill to the MuseumsQuartier subway station.)
This is Day 52 of my 100 Days in Europe series. As I research my guidebooks and make new TV shows, I’m reporting on my experiences and lessons learned in Vienna, the Alps, the Low Countries, England, and beyond. Find more on my travel blog at

Schönbrunn Palace together with its ancillary buildings and extensive park is by virtue of its long and colourful history one of the most important cultural monuments in Austria. Scheduled as a listed monument, the whole ensemble, including the palace, the park and not least the oldest zoo in the world was placed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1996.

The exciting camera rides in this six-minute film offer a high-speed pan through the variety of all that Vienna has to offer. And does so from totally unusual perspectives. An all-round view is possible at any point during the clip by using the mouse or keyboard, regardless of whether you're “riding along on the Giant Ferris Wheel in the Prater or in a horse-drawn carriage through the Imperial Palace. By the way, it's helpful if you don't suffer from vertigo for the moments captured on the Giant Ferris Wheel by the 360° camera ...
Bars, cafés and restaurants enliven hip locations – and the full-on life in the giant courtyard of the MuseumsQuartier streaks past in time lapse as does life on the urban beach at the Danube Canal. The courtyard dining area is there, as is the heuriger in the vineyards and the obligatory Wienerlied ensemble which has knitted a true-to-style modern song out of an old one.
There's also a kaleidoscope of insights and views - such as a view from the roof of the Burgtheater, from the tower of St. Stephen's Cathedral as well as behind the scenes at the Spanish Riding School with its stables and tack room. Well-known large public squares, such as Karlsplatz and Michaelerplatz, and small squares tucked away in the Old City heave into view. Detours into the nightlife and concert life of the city are also included, as is a visit to the golden monument of Waltz King Johann Schani Strauss and a flying visit to the Baroque ceremonial room of the National Library.
The soundtrack of the clip is worthing listening to on its own - with its sound mix of pulsating beats and the legendary Viennese waltz.

Three new interactive videos paint a picture of a diverse city of art and enjoyment, and get you in the mood to follow in the tracks of the protagonists.
Accompany one of the nine protagonists on their journey through Vienna for as long as you like. If this person meets one of the other lead actors, you can “switch” and follow the other person instead. On a nice note: the nine hosts aren’t actors, but people like you and me, who live or have lived in Vienna, and have all manner of tips to offer away from the well-trodden path. Furthermore, each of the protagonists has particular preferences that lend the respective day in Vienna a very special tone:

Hannah, the first assistant rider at the Spanish Riding School, shows you her favorite spots in Vienna and gives you an up-close look at what it's like to work with the renowned Lipizzaner stallions.
The Viennese artist Christian Bazant-Hegemark introduces you to Vienna's artiest hotspots and shows us some highly enjoyable hangouts.
Each of the videos offers the possibility to access information with pictures, text and panoramas at special points in the video. Most of the movies are in German with subtitles; you can also download a city map in order to follow the routes taken by the six protagonists. The videos are accompanied by a prize draw, every month we give away a trip to Vienna among all Vienna-Experts.
Moreover you can spend a hip and trendy day in Vienna by following the casual scene type Erdem through his Vienna in summer.
The secret tips of the Street Art artist Frau Isa whisk us away to her trendy, modern Vienna.

Vienna In Your Pocket - Hofburg
Vienna In Your Pocket's Stefan Bauer tours the Hofburg, one of Vienna's main sites. Home to the Habsburg monarchy for more than six centuries, the ten major buildings comprising the Hofburg complex represent the splendour and influence of what was once the mightiest empire in Europe. While this has been the site of countless decisive historical events, the sweeping arcaded façade of the Neue Burg earned worldwide notoriety in April of 1938, when Adolf Hitler spoke to a crowd of 200,000 people from its central balcony. Nearly every Austrian monarch has left his (or her) fingerprint on the layout of this palace, resulting in a stylistic mishmash and a wide array of museums. Maps in several languages are posted in the courtyards throughout the complex, but here are the highlights: the Schatzkammer (Imperial Treasury) houses the crown jewels, as well as the nail supposed to have pierced Christ's right hand and the so-called Spear of Destiny. If you're into impressive baroque interiors, the reading room of the Nationalbibliothek (National Library) is a highlight. For those with a fascination for sordid dynastic family histories, a ticket to the Kaiserappartements (Emperor's Apartments) includes the Silberkammer (Silver Vault) and Sisimuseum (Sisi Museum), lending an intimate insight into the private lives of Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife, Elizabeth of Bavaria (better known locally as Sisi). The dancing white Lippizaner horses of the Spanische Hofreitschule (Spanish Riding School) perform here, as well as the boy sopranos and altos of the Wiener Sängerknaben (Vienna Boys' Choir). But even if you don't have time for a museum trip, a stroll through the Hofburg complex is a definite must.

World's Oldest Zoo: Tiergarten Schönbrunn, Vienna (Wien), Austria
Tiergarten Schönbrunn is the longest continuously operating zoo in the World. It started out in 1752 as the imperial menagerie of the Habsburg family and was later opened to the public. Today its focus is on education and conservation. The latter has been quite successful, especially with the pandas.
The zoo is located relatively close to the city centre in the Schönbrunn Palace castle grounds. Although there is a tube station called Schönbrunn, you’ll want to stay on for one more stop to get to Hietzing station. From there it’s just a five-minute walk through the Schönbrunn gardens to get to the zoo.
Tickets are €20 per adult, which may seem pricey but the zoo spans 17ha which can keep you busy for many hours. Some of the most popular attractions include the giant pandas, koalas and orangutans. There is also a rainforest house, which maintains a rainforest climate for the flora and fauna within. There is also the Tyrolean House which gives a glimpse into what traditional farm houses in the countryside look like.
Another fun fact: The zoo also became very popular with Austrians millennials because a children’s series based on the popular books by Thomas Brezina were partially filmed there. You’re still able to spot its main star, Tom Turbo the bicycle, next to the giraffe’s enclosure.
