Silicon Valley wants a landmark. What should it be?
If Paris has its Eiffel Tower, London its Big Ben and New York its Empire State. But what kind of landmark would best represent Silicon Valley? That will be the decision of an 11-member jury in an upcoming competition that wants to determine how to pay homage to tech industry’s epicentre. The winning design will (if all goes to plan) be built in a park in San Jose, the city which sits at the Valley’s foot. The non-profit organisation behind the idea should find out on Tuesday if it has the go-ahead to start planning. It is hoped the project will be nearing completion by 2021. Gift These days, the New York Times notes, San Francisco has an arguably bigger global reputation for tech than San Jose, but that wasn’t always the case - and with this effort the city is looking to reclaim some of that acknowledgement. There are some nods to tech’s history in the city already. Woz Way, named after the beloved Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, runs past one of the city’s parks and near the Children’s Discovery Museum. The museum nearby is a magic exploration of how stuff works. But in themselves they are not the kind of attraction that give people a reason to find the way to San Jose, argued Steve Borkenhagen, executive director for the project. It’s ironic that an area as wealthy as ours doesn’t have a public artistic icon,” he told the BBC. I think it just hasn’t been a priority. Generally our business leaders have their head down, creating interesting things that are changing the world.” The landmark will be a gift, Mr Borkenhagen said, saying it will be funded entirely by donations raised by the San Jose Light Tower Corporation. The group is named after a once-iconic light structure that, on a clear night in 1881, could be seen in San Francisco some 50 miles away. ‘Not a hi-tech project' That doesn’t mean the new landmark will necessarily be a tower, however. We are not a hi-tech project, even though we are a part of a hi-tech community,” Mr Borkenhagen said. We’re not asking for the most recent LED lightbulb. We're looking to build something enduring. So what exactly will it be? , naturally, has a few… ideas. A freeway lined with Apollonian statues of tyrannical but business casual CEOs, watched over by an electronic eye of Sauron,” suggested one. “Can it be titled Hubris?” asked another. San Jose Light Tower Corporation said it chose to open it up to competition both as a way of raising the profile of the fundraising effort, but also to perhaps nurture some design talent from a previously untapped source. The project draws inspiration from Maya Lin, the 21-year-old architecture student who in 1981 won a competition to design Washington DC’s memorial to commemorate those who died in the Vietnam War. That said, the group would rather you did not call the upcoming project a monument - as that typically means something that pays respects to the dead*. ‘Be open minded' Personally, I have doubts about designing by committee, and re

In addition to the typical array of state-of-the-art products, the Apple Company Store is also the only place you can pick up some official branded T-shirts and accessories, as well.
6. The HP Garage, Palo Alto, CA
Maybe you haven’t heard of Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, the two men who started their own computer company out of a garage in the late 1930s. Now it is rightfully known as the “Birthplace of Silicon Valley.”
7. The Oasis, Menlo Park, CA
The restaurant served as one of the meeting spots for the Homebrew Computer Club, a motley collection of computer nerds who met to commiserate in the 1970s. They included people like Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, and Jerry Lawson, the man who invented video game cartridges.
8. The Tech Museum of Innovation, San Jose, CA
A museum unlike any other. This museum is exceptionally interactive, whether you’re using tech to get an incredibly in-depth biology lesson or you’re experiencing the sensation of being in an earthquake, there’s a lot to experience at the Tech Museum.
9. South Park, San Francisco, CA
It is said to be the mythical place where Jack Dorsey invented Twitter. As a result, South Park is largely considered the birthplace of the “dot com revolution.”
10. The Intel Museum, Santa Clara, CA
Don’t underestimate the impact that Intel has had on the computer industry. After all, they are one of the world’s leading manufacturers of the chips that power our favorite devices. At the museum, you can see the history of the company, which is essentially the history of the computer industry.

30 years of Intel in Ireland - short video
Intel first decided to locate in Ireland in 1989 and shortly afterwards began developing land at Collinstown Industrial Park in Leixlip, Co. Kildare. We soon began production of boards and systems in a facility which became Intel's European Site for Systems Manufacturing (ESSM). Construction of Intel’s first every semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Europe, Fab 10, also began at this time and by the mid 1990’s Ireland had become a key production location for Intel. Throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s investment in the Leixlip campus continued with additional large scale fabrication facilities being added and in 2014 Intel announced details of a $5 billion campus upgrade investment, the largest private investment in the history of the Irish State, which enabled the facility in Leixlip to manufacture latest generation Intel process technology.
The total invested by Intel in Ireland since 1989 now stands at $15 billion. The Irish fab operations have consistently played a central role within Intel’s global manufacturing network and we have leveraged our manufacturing capability and world class infrastructure to develop new competencies in areas such as computer vision, artificial intelligence and network transformation.
The work that we undertake at the Leixlip campus is world class and unique in terms of its scale and complexity and has had a very significant impact on both the local and national economy in many ways. For example, Intel Ireland contributes €921 million each year to the Irish economy and supports 7,550 full time equivalent jobs in the economy which are in addition to the 4,500 people working for Intel. We support 756 Irish suppliers with who we spend €187 million every year.
In November 2019 we will proudly celebrate 30 years of Intel operations in Ireland. This video was specially created to coincide with this important milestone and it is a celebration of all that has been made possible by our employees over the past 30 years.

SUMMARY

Silicon Valley (sometimes abbreviated as SV) is a region in the southern San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California which serves as a global center for high technology, innovation and social media. It corresponds roughly to the geographical Santa Clara Valley. San Jose is the Valley's largest city, the third largest in California, and the tenth largest in the United States. Other major Silicon Valley cities include Palo Alto, Santa Clara, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale. The San Jose Metropolitan Area has the third highest GDP per capita in the world (after Zurich, Switzerland and Oslo, Norway), according to the Brookings Institution. The word silicon originally referred to the large number of silicon chip innovators and manufacturers in the region, but the area is now the home to many of the world's largest high-tech corporations, including the headquarters of 39 businesses in the Fortune 1000, and thousands of startup companies. Silicon Valley also accounts for one-third of all of the venture capital investment in the United States, which has helped it to become a leading hub and startup ecosystem for high-tech innovation and scientific development. It was in the Valley that the silicon-based integrated circuit, the microprocessor, and the microcomputer, among other key technologies, were developed. As of 2013, the region employed about a quarter of a million information technology workers. As more high-tech companies were established across San Jose and the Santa Clara Valley, and then north towards the Bay Area's two other major cities, San Francisco and Oakland, the Silicon Valley has come to have two definitions: a geographic one, referring to Santa Clara County, and a metonymical one, referring to all high-tech businesses in the Bay Area. The term is now generally used as a synecdoche for the American high-technology economic sector. The name also became a global synonym for leading high-tech research and enterprises, and thus inspired similar named locations, as well as research parks and technology centers with a comparable structure all around the world.

CODY SNODGRES RE BLACK OPS WITH OLE DAMMEGARD
An interview with Black Ops Whistleblower, Cody Snodgres with investigator/author Ole Dammegard Wednesday, December 6th @ 1pm PT.
From Ole Dammegard: …”
Dear Kerry,
…”After 22 years of silence, my friend and former independent Black Ops Contractor Cody Snodgres, has decided to step forward as a whistleblower. In 1994 he was offered 1 000 000 USD by the CIA to bomb the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City. When he turned it down, he went from being an asset to a liability and the agency then tried to kill him on several occasions. Two times he died, but hospital staff managed to bring him back to life. This will also cover Cody’s experience with black ops and money laundered through the Clinton and Bush crime families.”–paraphrased message from Ole Dammegard
